The third Guardians of the Galaxy film is being delayed indefinitely: The Hollywood Reporter has learned that crewmembers prepping for preproduction have now been dismissed, following director James Gunn’s firing late last month. Evidently, Disney has not found a suitable replacement for helming the franchise yet.

Marvel and Disney are taking a measured approach in their search for a filmmaker — one source says that Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi recently had a meeting with Marvel, but it is unclear what project was discussed — and with good reason. The controversial firing has rankled the cast, which, in an open letter, asked the studio to reinstate Gunn.

... if there will be a Guardians 3
Real bonehead move. Fire the guy that made one of the most entertaining Marvel movie series (imho Deadpool is the other). Give Disney a Cigar! (preferably one with an M-80 stuffed into the middle of it)

I hope the cast told Disney to fuck off. They all previously stated they stand with Gunn and Bautista openly said he'd quit if they didn't at least use Gunn's script.

Thor: Ragnarok is my favorite Marvel movie, but I'd rather see Gunn reinstated. This was like firing somebody because they wrote some nasty graffiti a decade ago.

That being said, I wouldn't let Gunn near my very young children.

And here come the trolls...

That was mature. Have you read Gunn's tweets? The last thing Disney needs is a Jared Fogle.

Can't really blame Disney, they have a children's brand to protect. Even if he's the "right" director for the film they won't be able have his name associated with their brand now that those tweets have been dredged up. Still amazed how stupid some people can be. Unless you're trying to be the next Howard Stern, publicly posting shit that's going to offend lots of people seems like a really poor career choice IMO.

I don't find any humor at all in those tweets, what a sick SOB.

Its called dark humor. Its not for everyone and it crosses boundaries for some people, but really thats what its about is finding your humor boundary in a civil manner, or pointing out when the consumer is the issue.

Some people push too far but when you cant tell the line between humor and intent it shows you are the problem.

Now to be fair people hide a lot of things so theres every possibility it goes past just being dark humor as well, but jumping to conclusions is for influential lemmings.

Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to silence his humor/whatever at all, free speech means horrific to awesome. I am a true believer in sticks and stones may.........

Knockoff the name calling and use the report post in the future instead of quoting people breaking the rules.

Only thing I can say is bonehead move by Disney. They've got enough money it won't phase 'em one bit. It's the people out jobs and the fans that will suffer.

On either side of the fence with this it can get dicey, those tweets would make me nervous too but they should've committed to something before not after the latest witch hunts.

He's free to, as you say, find his humor boundary. Disney, on the other hand, knows exactly where its boundary is and if Gunn didn't know before where that is then that is not Disney's problem. I do not believe at all that he doesn't remember posting those and the fact that he couldn't be bothered to go through his posts and clean it up says a lot.

Gunn certainly has a strange fascination with pedophilia "humor". I don't give two shits about him,his movies, or what he said. Given the nature of so many of his non-pedophiliac posts, he surely knew that type stuff can't be said with social impunity (I know most of them were 7 to 10 years old...no way in hell he didn't know that he had posted that stuff in the past).

Disney knew about them before he was hired. He was called out on them years ago and had to publicly apologize.

What conclusion did i jump to, and where is the rest of my post for context, or are you just a troll?

I would rather GotG never have a third installment than to see it without the person who made it a success not in charge.

Over in the Soapbox someone posted about his pedophile themed parties too. There is at least one or two photos of him and they're pretty disturbing. Disney made the right decision here.

They stood together and it cost them their jobs.

I've been trying to be supportive of him but the more I hear of things like that the less I can. I've made a point in my life to find laughter in even the most extreme of things. Sometimes you have to laugh to move on. I know too many victims of these kinds of behaviors. Some will notice I've 'liked' many opposing posts on this thread and I commend those who can intelligently present a perspective but I've definitely got some doubts about him now. Disney, however, well they've never been as innocent as they present themselves. From things with good old Walt to now there's a very interesting history. Something that slightly relates to all this is a movie scene I can't remember fully but I do remember the shock when someone had the Flaming Lips "Blister in the Sun" playing as pre-teen kids innocently skipped down the street.

I suppose my joke for Gunn, I wonder if he has an original VHS print of Little Mermaid he puts on for his parties. Just sayin'

Didn't half the guardians get killed off by Thanos in infinity wars?
Yes, but whose to say Guardians 3 has to chronologically follow Guardians 2 and can't be either a prequel to take place during the time between the events of 1 and 2? Also, spoiler alert, most of the people whom were murdered come back to life in the storyline of the comic book series Infinity Wars is based off of. (At the end of IW Part 2, happppinessssss.....)

Of course they do. Comics wouldn't be worth much if their heroes could get killed off so easily.

DISNEY (21st century Disney) for general pop. movies = bad , bad, bad

everyone with an interest in the industry saw it coming

expect more heartache when more beloved franchises get screwed over by Disney. ( Star Wars is already milked to death...)

...dark times ahead....

The problem with Disney is that they should have fired Gunn after they absorbed Marvel Studios completely, It was ten years ago, It's impossible none of them there had any idea about that. Gunn was into dark humor, for me it is still humor rather then straight opinions (well people are just too sensitive nowadays so I'm pretty sure a lot will be against him at this). He already apologized for the tweets. He already mentioned that He respects Disney's decision (For clarification cause a lot people on other forums believed that He is begging to be rehired, the cast are the ones who want him back, at that point I think the part where Bad Jokes & Dark humor doesn't necessarily make a man well - bad). Was it bad for his career? I guess not, a lot of studios are already in queue on getting him. I always believed in redemption and forgiveness, (especially for something that happened 10 years ago, over a joke, nobody died, nobody lost cash, that stuff) So I hope good things for him in the future.

No

That then really says so much more about him and his attitude. He already had to apologize for them once yet he still did not care enough (or at all) to remove them.

People are dumb when it comes to social media. Plus, the US hadn't gone fucking insane with political bullshit at the time. I think it was stupid of him (or anything that says dumb shit that could come back to bite them) not to delete those tweets, but it does sound like the guy had matured and moved away from making those kinds of "jokes".

I'm fan of dark humor, but guess what? It is increasingly hard to get away with displaying it these days. It is fraught with consequence if you display it in public, and social media is the town square writ large and everyone gets a megaphone and an eternal recording of what they say in that public space.

Do I like this fact? No. Do I dislike the fact that the end of the political spectrum that gave us this set of rules is saying people who agree with their politics should not be held equally accountable to the mob because those doing the complaining are from the other end of the political spectrum? Yes, and good. They should suffer with the fucking mess they have made.

You want to explore dark humor these days, paint a picture, write a book, make a movie, put it in some kind of container before you stick it in the public space. Going all performance art with your own identity is a bad plan.

People who don't understand that are either stupid, or they have something fucked up with their wiring that doesn't let them see the boundaries society is putting up. You don't want to invest in either of those groups, it's a bad plan.
