I picked up an edgeswitch lite 24 port to use with my edgerouterX and two AC HD Access Points.. The switch keeps giving me thermal errors and Ubiquiti says its defective so I am going to return it. I can get the unifi version 24 port (Non poe) as I don't need it since my AP came with injecters. I like the unifi manager as its fairly simple. This is a home environment but it will be to 1gb internet eventually. I just don't want to lose any speed and I plan to use the LAG features on my HD Access points to be able to run two 1gb runs the AP can use. Will I truly notice any performance difference going to the unifi switch?

Nope exact same hardware, just managed by the unifi controller or cloud key instead of the cli/web ui.

If you ever decide to go with the USG all of the information flows in quite nicely, but not a huge need to do so if you like the x router.

I went with the X router because of the switch chip but wish I had just gone all unifi.. I keep seeing most network guys say they never recommend the USG and always the edgerouter x or lite. right now im trying to connect the switch to the router via SFP and no luck.. Maybe the router has to be setup to use the SFP..

Got the new switch installed.. I will be honest I like it better than the edge.. fanless.. take care of my POE so I could remove the injectors. Just doing the 8 port POE unifi and I also setup aggregation on both my AC HD AP's show they use 2 x 1gb connections per AP. All is back up and running and so easy to control through the software.. pretty happy.. almost wish I had the USG just so I could monitor the traffic. Plenty strong for a home setup.

i'm 100% UBNT (including cameras). Love the entire line, including the USG. My switch is in the garage, gets pretty damn hot out there and it's been good for two years now.

Depending on what you do on your network, the USG does have some limitations around DNS, but is great for the monitoring aspect and overall firewall.
It frustrates me a bit with alias issues and my home lab with a bunch of docker stuff all running on the same box.

That is a few things I read also.. if they would strengthen the router unifi options I would be all over it. I love the monitoring it can do.

They keep saying it in the pipeline and I've heard whispers its in the beta updates, but hasn't shown up yet in the GA releases yet.
