Dice developer, Alexander Grondal, is doubling down on his earlier statements about women in Battlefield 5 and says he wishes he had included women in Battlefield 1 when it was released. I don't really care whether women are in the games or not, but a vocal group of Battlefield fans have complained about the realism of this effort and this controversy may have contributed to the weak sales of Battlefield 5. When is he going to quit fanning the flames of controversy and concentrate on selling his new game? Just sell us a game and forget the other stuff, Alex.

Now Aleksander Grondal, executive producer at DICE, has declared his wish that the team added women to 2016's Battlefield 1 too, explaining that it's not about just following a trend.

I would like the Battlefield series more if the maps, guns, etc all came with the base game. Then if you want to play dress up with your soldier by adding tattoos, extra voices, logos, etc then you can pay extra for those to support the artists on the development team that are usually laid off after a game ships.

They should follow the model for the cosmetic shop in Warframe. Heck even World of Warcraft stopped charging for expansions.

So tired of this "equal representation" nonsense that constantly goes on.

I get that maybe people want the option in MULTIPLAYER but single player? Fucking hell it's supposed to be historically accurate.

Like saying "why can't I be a female Duke Nukem?" :cautious:

So what's stopping him? Get some models together and push out an update for the game if you so desire. Maybe there will even be some people still playing it!

Get woke, go broke.
Warped Marketing departments that sit on social media all day as their 'job', lying to the company leaders and owners about who buys games.
Not necessarily. They're selling their games to "games journalists" under the belief that it is the journalist's review score and coverage that sells the game to the customers. That is why there is so much capitulation these days. Game publishers need to get with the times and realize that the internet allows direct engagement, which is more visible and effective. Look what happened when Soderlund told us to not buy the game. We were more than happy to oblige.

The is still the strangest "controversy" in gaming. Who cares if there are female avatars in the game?

I like to play female avatars because some guys get really angry when the replay shows a female killing them. Kill them three times and the rage comes out as hackusations start getting tossed around.

MMORPG. Many Men Online Role Playing as Girls.

Plenty of women fought in WWII. Mostly on the Russian front, and as French freedom fighters, but there are more than enough stories to make a single player episode out of.

And who is responsible to telling their ownership & leadership they need to pander to the gaming mags?

Are these games about actual historical battles or are they about being politically correct and all inclusive? If the later then dont use actual battle names (such as Battle of Verdun or Battle of Stalingrad) and dont call it WW1 or WW2 if your going to try to rewrite history.

Probably but still, the public backlash is dumb.
EA is banking on all of the SJW's buying this game, just wait, they will flock to it because of the diversity!
I don't understand how these companies don't realize that SJWs are a minority....just a VERY vocal minority. Average Joe/Jane barely gives a shit.

Butthurt is Butthurting. Nobody gives a shit about your political statements, when your games are boring cgi movies your sales eventually drop off.

I have started to make a few more female avatars ever since Mass Effect because I heard that Fem Shep had the better voice actor (she is better by the way). It is fun to change this up from time to time.

This is true, how many of those stories will be told? I'm betting 0%.

Thats fine then use those specific battles or operations, but dont make stuff up and call it historical.

So I guessed we've established, you're trying to lawyer this argument.

Nope, just requoting what he said. I am just loving that everyone is so upset about something so small. Honestly, though. Adding women makes sense. People generally like to play games as their gender if they have the choice, and the male market is almost completely saturated, so of course they are going to try to appeal the other 50% of the population, but everyone keeps treating it as though they are being attacked.

That is their plan with Battlefield 5 (at least for maps). Unfortunately, their marketing and messaging messed up, and irked lots of people.

Tbh, I thought about it, I'm okay with including women as player avatars in the multiplayer. I find the arguments about it the same as the position I had when BF1 came out concerning the nature of WWI guns and warfare. I was annoyed about all the SMGs, the running around, and general lack of realism vs how the war was actually fought. Then, I remember what people wrote about my complaints, and it was basically, "Battlefield has never been about realism, but fun" and frankly, remembering BF2 and BF1942, I had to admit that was completely true. So I set aside my annoyance and I had a great time playing Battlefield 1.

So arguments about immersion, about realism, they fall flat on me. When people complain about the cosmetics, I counter it with the fact that they wiped away the Premium Pass, and we will no longer have to deal with sub-par expansion maps, unbalanced and empty of player numbers. I'm willing to see fake arms in return for saving $60 on the Premium Pass. Hell, I regret getting the Premium for BF1. When people decry the lack of historical accuracy about women in combat, frankly my answer is "So what? Why does it matter?" Its a game. Games aren't supposed to be realistic anymore than we expect our movies, tv, books to be realistic. I've seen people say things like DICE is trying to change history. What kinda crock is that? If anyone who plays BFV comes away thinking women actually did frontline combat in WWII, then they are dumb, or uneducated. If you want realism, if you want history, go visit a museum, read a textbook, but don't ask Battlefield to be your teacher.

edit: World of Warcraft did not stop charging for expansions, in a sense. The latest expansion is $50, while everything previously has been rolled into the subscription fee of $15 per month. Good decision especially for the players who fell off prior to the last expansion, Legion. (Like me, fuck Warlords of Draenor was garbage)

I really enjoy history and studying but I know of no women that were front line troops in the trenches going over the top during WW1, especially on the western front. Maybe in the capacity of a hospital or such, or the eastern front for a short time there was a unit with the Russian Army and Finnish army during the 1918 Finish Civil war.

The problem isn't women in video games, it's the stupid asshat CEO who decided he was going to mock people by saying "If you don't like it, don't buy it." the internet and people in general are always ready to pounce on shit like this. Doubling down on the situation is NOT helping your cause.

And that vocal minority was not even buying the game either way. Everyone needs to stop caving into these retards. Sorry I don't mean to offen special needs people since they have more common sense then these SJW fucks.

Seriously, it's like if McDonalds started campaigning to market their food towards vegans and then insult the carnivores by telling them to go eat somewhere else if they don't like it. They would lose a ton of sales because that's not the majority of their customers. You can add better options while not throwing them in your customers face.

Virtue signaling and SJW to the MOON! Don't let up! Scream it from the rooftops!

Because when you are trying to build an authentic battlefield you expect to see 50% or more women running around on the front lines.

So, what major battles in the recorded history of man so far have had 50/50 women and men on the front lines? Does this decision make the game seem more like a familiar battlefield of war? Does it help suspend disbelief and make it feel like a war game? No? Then WHY are they doing it?

Sell the product people want. There's no sexism in making it authentic in flavor to war. If all the battles we fight today included women everywhere then it would make sense wouldn't it? But simple fact is up to now they don't, irrespective of whether you think they SHOULD have or not!

Bombshell?

I said this before in a similar thread, I play games to escape from day to day life and have fun. It is a sad day in gaming that liberal knee jerk feel good political correctness has now infiltrated even this. If I want to deal with that garbage I would just turn on CNN or MSNBC and listen to the liberal pundits bitch and whine.

I'm not. I'd like at least one quality AAA game in 2018. Not everything needs to be bottom of the barrel garbage. Besides, you're not getting $50 worth of content for free. You'll get neon uniforms, Halloween hats and other crap to entice those with no sense to spend their money. The big problem with this is what you pay for up front isn't what you will have 6-12 months from now.

Day one may represent a WWII shooter, what I paid for. One year later it will be a clusterfuck of clowns, Santa hats, aliens, zombies, people running around in red white & blue underwear and whatnot. If they'd be willing to issue a full MSRP refund if they ruin the game and honor it for three years (development length of the game) I'd consider your point. Otherwise, I'd gladly pay $30-50 for more weapons, vehicles and maps that are actually worth playing.
