RTX 2080 - 2080 Ti - 2070 Pricing Revealed

I'm not buying a new GPU until next spring. I'm eying the 2080. If prices are at $700 or so at that time.

I can afford the 2080 ti but I will patiently wait for a price decrease...

Only very few titles will take advantage of Pay Tracing this year and I have a back log anyway.

Who knows maybe I will spend my money on something else and will just forget about this?

$500-600 for a midrange card? Nvidia can go eat a dick.

It’s only midrange against Nvidia’s other cards. Nvidia is just offering an increasing lineup additional of high end cards (while AMD plays in the sandbox out back).

And I wanted a 2070! I can afford but no shot on I'm buying at those prices, especially with no benchmarks. I didn't watch their release what are their stated performance numbers?

I won't be buying any 20xx GPUs but not for the price reason. As far as I can tell, No apps / games I currently use can take advantage of any of the new stuff announced today. Once they have some solid benchmarks for current apps and I can see how MUCH of an improvement it'll be, then I'll hop on board.

Ahaha the price in Sweden is about $1500 for 2080Ti, $1050 for 2080. That's US dollar, not Canadian or Australian.

man that 2080 for $800 MSRP and 2080 Ti for $1200 (that's ONLY $500 over release price 2-3 years ago TALK ABOUT INFLATION but I digress) sure look great, can't wait to get my hands on one of those OVER-PRICED cards especially since it has FREE shipping ... oh boy !!!

Ray tracing has long been the holy grail for real-time computer graphics. Somebody has to introduce these features at some point, I guess.

Not exactly thrilled with the pricing either. Begrudgingly ordered one anyway. I'd happily cancel if AMD could come up with something better..

Well it is the hardware news of the day.

Seems to me Kyle thinks of himself as a journalist. He reports the news good and bad. In his reviews he has always tried to paint a real world picture instead of just copy and pasting the marketing spew.

Reporting on the news and presenting the facts good or bad no matter what you think of the person/company making the news is the mark of a good journalist.

Yeah man after all these years and since Celeron 300a overclocking I've been coming here every day for the real deal in hardware news. He's never sold out and always told it like it is, even if it meant getting on a prominent tech company's bad side.

If you look at the actual die sizes the prices are cheaper than you would expect... a $1200 Titan was ~470 mm^2 and now $1200 gets you over 700mm^2. I want to see some benches but not sure if I agree with all the negativity.

what's negative is that it has become a rich person's "luxury" sport. Price fixing on the DDR4 ... when does it end? It's all about maximum profit screw the people they are idiots and will buy at ridiculous prices anyways and what is sad is ... far too many will do just that (myself included occasionally after I've had too many beers or the bipolarr manic phase kicks in) even though game released for the past 2 years have sucked big time (gameplay I mean) so whatcha gonna do with that new GTX 2080 Ti, play Andromeda?

AFAIK nVidia’s profit margin has been flat since 2012. It’s not like they’ve gotten greedier. Break even is what? $800?

I honestly have no reason to upgrade. I am more or less unbiased. Devil’s advocate a little.

This chip is massive though. Makes the Titan X chips look like child’s play. I’ve seen comments that it’s “cut down” but it’s a god damn beast.

They should have just called it a Titan.... the only reason they may have went this route is the current 2080 (bumped to a 2080ti if the 2080ti is a Titan) would have been as fast as a 1080ti in old games lol.

But honestly the compute power puts the old Titan Xs to absolute shame.

"Huang's presentation said the RTX 2070 will start at $499, the RTX 2080 at $699 and the RTX 2080 Ti at $999" - Polygon

SO here we are at $1200 for the Ti? Huang said "still far off" regarding the 20 series release and that was what, 2 months ago? A lying company selling a way over priced GPU ...

they have certainly earned the meaning of the name "Nvidia"

True....
But still, who cares what the die size is? Probably only Nvidia as it probably costs a fortune to manufacture and priced accordingly.
All that really matters is Price/Perf/Power

I am honestly quite surprised at you [H] for all the curd Nv did with GTX 10 series, GPP shenanigans not being as forthcoming as they should have been day one with DX 11/12 support etc, why so many posts about this RTX "Turing" stuff, they seemed to want you to "shut up" and not spill the beans on them (about what they were doing) but you are effectively giving them "free press".

I just don't get it ^.^

PC gaming is almost the single biggest reason the enthusiast PC market exists. Basically why this site exists. The Nvidia announcement is huge news as it is their next generation of cards. I think it's fair to say that they are simply covering the relevant news for their audience.

Back on topic: I really did get hyped for all of a few minutes today. Thought I could treat myself to a nice Christmas present but the prices are whack. Hoping my 1070 can keep kicking it at 1440p for another year.

Lol.
People:
Oh look only $999, from the CEO himself!!!, [goes to order one] WAT!!! $1200!!!???!!!?? But, but CEO said $999...........

The point is it’s compute power absolutely destroys a Titan X which cost the same at launch and we don’t even have benches yet. I am sure they went RT and tensor for a reason rather than just straight CUDA. CUDA with the size allotment would have been around 50% faster.

It’s not logical to bash it before benches. It’s basically a Titan on steroids, much more die than we’ve ever got, for the same price. The question is if nVidia will follow through on using the new tech.

sure, now there's good reason (not) for charging $500 over the 1080 Ti release price

Compute power that only applies to Tensor/Ray tracing compatible software.....

Huang said it would be MSRP @ $999 what part of that would you like me to explain to you?
Is it that it's "only" $200 more? If so I'll give you my email address and then you can send me $200 via Paypal because it's "only" $200

Huang said it would be MSRP @ $999 what part of that do you enjoy ignoring?

I don’t care what he said? Do we not learn from Pascal? That’s why I compare it against a $1200 Titan Xp.

that's where you and I differ ... I take a man at his word until his word becomes a lie then he's shit out of luck far as I'm concerned ,,, it's called integrity and once ya loose it it's gone. He lied about the release price and lied about the release date but I bet in his mind he was just applying "clever marketing"

Yeah.. kinda feels like a Mantle move. They have it in the UE and Frostbyte engine though. Sounds like Tensor cores will be used through drivers.

I think nVidia will deliver hard core. My only concern is it might be a way to shut others out of the market.

Ugh, I think that ship sailed a long time ago!!

We have plenty of stuff to complain about but to bitch about the CEO saying the cards were far off is beyond asinine. Far off has no specific meaning at all and it's not like the cards are even available right now so really 3 months sure is hell a long time if you were waiting for new tech.

Great demos shown today, love to see them pushing the envelope. But the pricing made it all a waste of time...The greed is strong in Nvidia, each gen getting more expensive and more and more proprietary technologies. I wont be buying, and think its crazy that folks are buying when 7nm is so close. Im'ma grab a big ol bowl of popcorn, sitback and see how ray tracing shakes out and what kind of support we have in a year or so, then make a decision. For me, 7nm, mature GDDR6 speeds and developers actively using ray tracing in the AAA titles and maybe then Ill bite, until then its a no go...

This is purely a business move...they are seeing how far the market can bear the prices. They have had a good run with the crypto sales. If sales are not what they expected, then they will lower pricing until they get the volume sales at a level they can afford.

Just curious, if they relabeled the cards Titan D, 2080ti and 2080 would you guys complain about the pricing? The pricing and die size would be inline with last gen. Actually way bigger dies.
From a consumer standpoint no one gives a shit about the die size. What they care about is how much performance increase they are getting at similar price points than what they are used to paying but Nvidia sure as hell is keeping quiet on anything but Ray tracing.

I am not certain Nvidia can demand huge MSRP on upcoming cards now that the crypto bubble has imploded... gamers are only going to pay so much for a small performance increase over last gen.

Eh, what do I know. Might be sitting this round out. Not every egg that Nvidia lays is gold...

does the Ti really need to be $1000??!!...that's almost half the price of a 55" LG 4K OLED with Dolby Vision...

Okay lets ignore die size.

If they relabeled it to Titan T, 2080ti from 2080ti, 2080 with the same pricing; would people be going ape shit?

Hopefully you see where I am going.

The only thing we know right now is that nVidia is probably pulling some shady shit with ray tracing and cornering the market.
Please read the rest of what I said as I already answered you. What they choose to call the cards is irrelevant as again it's the performance increase at the usual price points that people look at. Someone that bought a 980ti or 1080 TI is looking at the 2080 TI as being a huge increase for around the same price hopefully. They are not looking for a miniscule upgrade for 40% increase in cost.
