Windows 10 Buggy Updates? Our Patching Is Simple, Regular, Consistent Says Microsoft

Which is why business machines need to be running Win 10 Pro or Enterprise and pointed at a WSUS server for updates rather than directly to Microsoft, with the "Do not connect to any Windows Update Internet locations" group policy enabled.
This gives total control of which updates are downloaded on the WSUS server and allows you to control when and if they get pushed out.

Of course, if you don't have a WSUS server, setting the same GPO's and setting your server to 127.0.0.1 works quite nicely to block updates as well. And you can then use a tool like WSUSOfflineUpdater to download offline update installers and install them yourself on your own schedule. This method has worked very nicely for me on my HTPC's which are still running TH2 so that WMC keeps working. It also still works nicely on other machines I have that are running FCU and SCU.

So if you have one CNC machine you need a WSUS server as well as someone to maintain and administer it just to gain control over the updating process? Personally I think WSUS servers suck to administer.

Which is what most are saying and a point you keep refuting.

That's not it at all. It's when we get into specific use cases like gaming. Windows is a vastly superior platform for PC gaming than Linux. Hell PC MEANS Windows gaming, coming to the PC doesn't normally mean Linux. Yes one can game under Linux. Yes Linux gaming has improved. And Windows even more so in the last few years at least when it comes to available content.

It's just obvious. Maybe Linux will get there. It's not there currently.

See, you still don't get it! Amazing.

I get it perfectly. If one doesn't game, have work or personal business requirements or need or want support for the latest in PC hardware and software then Linux is perfectly viable. No I'm not at the epicenter of PC usage but I know EXACTLY where the pain points are if one is considering Linux over Windows full time.

I use my mobile device to get away from productivity. However, considering those that use a mobile device as their primary device it's got productivity more than covered.

The Tab S4 is a $650 USD tablet with the custom DeX desktop extension that comes with a Wacom EMR pen and offers a $150 keyboard cover and is marketed in almost the same way with that optional cover as Surface products: https://www.samsung.com/us/explore/tab-s4/

This this is clearly meant to compete with the iPad Pro and Windows 2 in 1s and while it's not at all bad hardware it's just not as good as the other options out there for desktop type productivity use. Hell a cheaper Surface Go runs the full desktop version of your favorite office suite which doesn't even work with touch devices or ink for that matter. To this day I can't get why someone sells a keyboard cover for a tablet meant to be a laptop replacement that doesn't even have trackpad.

Well obviously you don't get it as you can game, you can work and there's plenty of software available under Linux.

You can't lump gamers into one group, you can't lump work into one group and the Windows way of doing things quite often isn't the only way of doing things. If you need Windows specific software for work than obviously your choices are limited, but this is rare in the overall scheme of things.

Windows is a vastly superior platform for PC gaming than Linux.

See above, it all depends on what the individual classes as gaming. Windows also runs the latest viruses, malware and Trojans - People tend to weigh up their options and use Windows for gaming, Linux for everything else, when they make such a claim you're there to basically claim they're exaggerating.

And you're missing the point that a great many people don't want desktop like productivity, they're quite happy with the applications available under the two leading platforms and don't have to worry about any of the issues surrounding Windows - Which is usually the reason they went to alternate platforms in the first place.

Didn't I just say that one can play games under Linux? The problem is that there far more games for Windows. I'm not the one lumping PC gamers, you are. As though the lack of choice of games under Linux is why people buy things like gaming laptops.

Because people who want to play Fortnite are thinking about this stuff.

Not is an $650 Android tablet that's specifically targeted as desktop replacement that can drive external monitors. Even Google has moved on from Android tablets and ChromeOS is where they are going with that next.

When attached to a Type Cover, a $650 Surface Go is basically a laptop that can run with no problem mainstream desktop applications. What the hell do you get with something like the S4? A bunch of Android apps that were designed for phones?

It's obvious what the problem with the S4 is as a 2 in 1 productivity device. There's very little made for Android be a 2 in 1 solution.

Just one thing about Libre Office. You've CONSTANTLY promoted it as your go to Office suite, So here's a 2 in 1 tablet that actually runs the full version at the same price as an S4 but then all of a sudden a device that's been universally panned as an iffy 2 in 1 productivity device that doesn't even have a trackpad in its keyboard cover is now that great 2 in 1 productivity device?

I'm lumping gamers?! How an I lumping gamers? And then to claim that you're not and provide a reply like the one below?

Because people who want to play Fortnite are thinking about this stuff.

This is an example of lumping gamers! This is what you do all the time.

Not is an $650 Android tablet that's specifically targeted as desktop replacement that can drive external monitors. Even Google has moved on from Android tablets and ChromeOS is where they are going with that next.

It's a mobile device, defeats the purpose if I drive external monitors. And even if you want to drive external monitors with a surface, the connectivity is so limited you usually need a dock which creates it's own completely new set of issues. If I want to drive an external monitor I can use a Chromecast and cast to an external display.

What the hell do you get with something like the S4? A bunch of Android apps that were designed for phones?

Mobile apps that can be resized and dragged all over the screen just like a desktop OS that provide all the basic functionality necessary for the productivity needs of most without the added hassles of Windows. If you want any more functionality, a laptop is always an option as they're usually better constructed and more repairable/upgradeable.

It's obvious what the problem with the S4 is as a 2 in 1 productivity device.

And thank God for that as people tend to purchase such devices as mobile devices. Microsoft are trying to create a market that no one wants/needs.

Well if I wanted such functionality I'd buy a laptop and run anything but Windows. It would be more beneficial for someone to spend extra and buy a Dell XPS 13 if productivity was of primary concern.

You act as though all gamers don't care about content. As though whatever runs natively under Linux is fine for ALL gamers.

Samsung is the one promoting DeX and external monitors. The S4 is not being sold as just a mobile device but a 2 in 1, much different market. I don't think any Surface has required a dock for an external monitor. They've all had either mini DP or USB-C video like the Surface Book 2 and Surface Go, Surface devices support Miracast.

Mobile apps that can be resized and dragged all over the screen just like a desktop OS that provide all the basic functionality necessary for the productivity needs of most without the added hassles of Windows.

Thing is how many Android apps designed specifically for phone do that though?

How many laptops weigh 18 ounces? 28 ounces with a detachable keyboard, touchscreen and pen?

And thank God for that as people tend to purchase such devices as mobile devices. Microsoft are trying to create a market that no one wants/needs.

This is insane considering what the S3 and S4 are.

So now you're the epicenter of the PC users? Here's a device in the S4 that's clearly copying Microsoft's 2 in 1 concept, can't say anything bad about the Tab of course when it's clearly inferior for 2 in 1 use but bash the hell out of Microsoft because their 2 in 1 devices run the office suite you promote 24/7.

In what colors is the Surface available? What are the payment options?

One. I just find it fucking odd that someone that promotes Libre Office 24/7 gets all weird about a 2 in 1 tablet that actually runs it as something dastardly compared to devices that can't because that don't even have a damned trackpad. But that's par for course for some Linux folks. You try to listen to them, I install Libre side by side with O365 on all of my Windows devices, even the 2 in 1s and yet I'm still a shill.

Really fucking odd shit. The Surface Go is an x86 machine, it should run Linux distros. I'm guessing the Go will be a Surface device that gets a lot of attention from the Linux community. Microsoft or no, for a 10" 1.15 lbs. x64 device there's nothing even close currently to just the hardware.

No, you act as if every gamer only cares about content. Quite obviously, this cannot be in any way assumed.

The S4 is being marked as an Android device with a different interface, you can connect a keyboard and mouse to any Android device and even my Nexus 10 had an additional mini HDMI port for external monitor connection around five years ago.

You keep missing the point, Microsoft are trying to create a market that isn't wanted or needed. A laptop is a far more versatile device if productivity is the primary concern with better connection options and if you avoid the 2 in 1 model you're not spending money on an unnessecary touch screen when you claim yourself that a track pad/physical keyboard is the more efficient human interface.

For the sort of simple productivity people want and need on the go, current solutions from Android/Apple have most bases covered. If you need more I recommend buying a laptop, a more rugged device with the connection options most want without the need for a dock and numerous dongles and avoid the touch screen for the same desktop experience you have at home or in your office. The Windows 10 touch interface is a solution to a problem that really doesn't exist for most. Once again, most switch to mobile to avoid the issues surrounding Windows.

How many laptops weigh 18 ounces? 28 ounces with a detachable keyboard, touchscreen and pen?

With limited reliability, upgradeability and a touchscreen and pen that no one wants in a desktop productivity experience.

Android devices with the same keyboard folio across models as pointed out by yourself. Very few people want them as mobile desktop replacements.

So far my phone and tablets I have had there has been no problem with updating and stuff not working on it. The best feature of my Android devices, is it does not have Windows on it.

Exactly! Personally I couldn't imagine anything worse than Windows 'or some variant of desktop Linux' on my mobile device!

My mobile device is my 'escape' device on the go and has all my productivity needs covered in the event that's what I need. He just can't accept it.

No, you act as if every gamer only cares about content. Quite obviously, this cannot be in any way assumed.

Gamers that don't care about content? Seriously? Like people that don't care about oxygen I guess?

Whatever all that means it's being marketed as a 2 in 1 productivity tablet. Kind of obvious when the selling points are a pen and keyboard cover.

You keep missing the point, Microsoft are trying to create a market that isn't wanted or needed.

Again, what the hell are you talking about when Samsung just launched an Android device targeted that that market? You're literally arguing with road signs at this point.

A laptop is a far more versatile device if productivity is the primary concern with better connection options and if you avoid the 2 in 1 model you're not spending money on an unnessecary touch screen when you claim yourself that a track pad/physical keyboard is the more efficient human interface.

Sure, a laptop is a better option for a device that supports a pen and can be held in one hand and weighs a pound and runs full Photoshop, which supports a pen.

They are called 2 in 1s for a reason, you do not seem to understand the concept at all.

With limited reliability, upgradeability and a touchscreen and pen that no one wants in a desktop productivity experience.

Except when they do.

Android devices with the same keyboard folio across models as pointed out by yourself. Very few people want them as mobile desktop replacements.

You should have told Samsung then not to release the S4 then.

I'm with you man. I'm happy to install whatever OS you see fit for a desktop. As long as it supports a Rift out course.

All these points have been discussed and refuted. I am not going to rehash topics of discussion just because you refuse to accept that you are a Microsoft fanatic and your opinion is therefore fairly worthless to anyone with half a clue.

I'm with you man. I'm happy to install whatever OS you see fit for a desktop. As long as it supports a Rift out course.
Only run the Rift on my desktop. My laptop will play games like Metro 2033 and stuff, but it does not have the power for a Rift. Though I do not game on the laptop since I just bought it cheap from my son who bought a better gaming laptop.

My mobile device is my 'escape' device on the go and has all my productivity needs covered in the event that's what I need. He just can't accept it.

It's not a matter of me accepting anything. It's a matter of OEMs are producing and what seems to selling. A 1.75 lbs. 2 in 1 that can support work and play has a market. A Go can run thousands of Steam games and surprisingly a lot of them actually work with touch even though you'd never now it without some research.

Fair enough, I never had anything close to a decent gaming laptop until I got the Surface Book 2, before getting blasted on that the 15" one has an integrated Xbox controller, not just BT.

All these points have been discussed and refuted.

You can't refute that Windows has a lot more choice in gaming content and say no one cares. You may not accept that, ok, but in all the years I've played video games I've never seen a soul wishing for less content.

I am not going to rehash topics of discussion just because you refuse to accept that you are a Microsoft fanatic and your opinion is therefore fairly worthless to anyone with half a clue.

I'm not going to rehash things that you say like who cares about content. Because it's silly. You can't keep talking about how great Linux gaming is, then discount content, then discount that OEMs don't bother at all with Linux gaming PCs, not even Dell and your love of their developer XPS machines.

You can't call me a fanatic while discounting every single market indicator that shows at best Linux gaming as niche as VR.

I'm not arguing these points. You are exaggerating the needs of many in a vain attempt to justify Windows as a means to deflect the real issue here.

It's what you always do and it's why people call you a shill. I have not even discussed Linux gaming in any great detail.

I see no evidence that they're selling beyond Microsoft's attempt to paint every car white as white cars aren't a big seller. I'm also not saying that Samsung's marketing of the S4 is in any way ideal.

Sure, and even Google's top tier Chromebook is a 2 in 1 with an optional $99 pen. Your hatred of Microsoft is blinding you to what's in plain sight. 2 in1s have gone well beyond Microsoft for anyone with eyes.

I'm not arguing these points. You are exaggerating the needs of many in a vain attempt to justify Windows as a means to deflect the real issue here.

The issue here is who builds or buys Linux gaming rigs? Even Valve said fuck it with Steam Boxes or Machines or whatever they were called.

It's what you always do and it's why people call you a shill. I have not even discussed Linux gaming in any great detail.

You're the one defending an platform that's clearly inferior for gaming purposes. Folks like you will sit there and blast Windows to hell for a deficiency that I agree is problematic. But hey, no AAA games at release, few ever, things that even Linux sites point out, I'm lumping gamers into a group because they want new content?

I believe Valve just released an upgrade to SteamOS.

I don't hate Microsoft and your postings are degrading into some odd form of attacking now, your inability to reason simply blows my mind.

LOL! It's cool, but some of the shit that flows through is just fucking nonsense, nothing to do with Microsoft, just plain real life denial kind of stuff. Like the gaming thing year to date these are the counts that Steam is showing:

Linux - 815
Mac - 1371
Windows - 6078

Year to date, Windows has added over 5000 more games in Steam than Linux, which means in about 7 and half months Windows got more games than Linux has for its entire in 5 and half years on Steam.

So Windows got every one of the 815 games that Linux got this year plus over 5000 more and somehow I'm lumping gamers? That works for a place like this with some folks, it's complete bullshit in the real world.

I see what you're doing.

Unfortunately there's no juice in winding up the disturbed. Too easy. I have to remind myself of this whenever he goes berserk in MS threads like this with 80% of the total post count. Because that goes way beyond shilling or fangirling your favorite brand or sports team, and approaches the realm of crippling obsession and family arguments daily about spending inordinate time online. Not always being the final word in a discussion should not create in an otherwise healthy individual an anxiety relievable only by further redundant argument to reclaim the final word.

Actual social marketers that get paid to peddle influence or products online on the DL come up for air eventually; they hang it up at 5pm and resume normal life without a care. Microsoft employees - the people that work on Windows itself - aren't even that passionate. Not even close.

I could snarkily say "kudos", but I think beneath it he's a good guy and the whole thing here is probably taking a toll. It's not healthy.

In fairness, we're all a little disturbed not backing away from these circular arguments but fueling them, since they never produce anything.
