Turing based GPUs will carry a higher price than Pascal during the cryptocurrency craze

If going by performance I'd project the following 'retail prices'

GTX 1180 $749
GTX 1170 $599
GTX 1160 $399

This gives just enough stratification to sell the cards but push down the older card prices only slightly.

Cut prices for old gen cards:
GTX 1080 TI $549 (when 1170 arrives)
GTX 1070 TI $349 (when 1160 arrives)
GTX 1060 $249

This is making performance assumptions that the GTX 1180 is significantly faster than 1080 Ti, that the 1170=1080 Ti, that the 1160>1070 Ti.

I think the 1160 will probably be in the 1070 Ti range of performance.

Things are about to get a lot more confusing as we see where these new GPUs actually slot in performance-wise and the price tags that Nvidia slaps on them.

I mean look at the 1180Ti. The 'retail' was $699 and it's still hovering around the $699-800 price point less than a month to release of the 1180.

I expect 1180 to be be in 1080ti range. Nvidia will have more shaders. I am not sure though If they can up the clocks too much. Had this been shrink to 7nm from 16nm. I would have expected 1180 to be much faster. Unless of course Nvidia found a magic pill and were able to up the clocks by 30-40% and shader count up by 30-40%. I would have expected both with 7nm. But going to 16 to 12 which is not actually as big as it looks. Not sure if they can do the same they did with pascal with minor shrink.

Do we still have any clue when the new cards will be launched? I know rumors suggest this month, at the Gamescon Event on August 20th, hope that pans out.

stop expecting...
hope
guess
but dont expect.

Nice haiku.

I'd actually say it's ok to expect... Expect the worst so you're not disappointed, then you're elated when things turn out better. It's a tenent to live by. In this case, I'm expecting MSRP to be $700, retail >$800.

Nvidia aren't going to keep the old cards in production. They will be phased out with the release of the new cards, just like they did when switching to Pascal from Maxwell.

Well if they want to create a new price bracket since there is no competition. They can easily make these new premium cards Higher bracket then the lower one. And let pascal complete with Vega cards. Pretty much whole new premium bracket until AMD comes out with something competitive. It would be interesting to see though if these rumors are true that they plan on keeping pascal for now and raise prices in new cards.

still not cool...

Why so angry at a stores return policy? I told them when I returned it I didn't like the heat profile on the founders edition and wanted an aftermarket cooling solution. They were more than happy to exchange it. Sounds like the problem is a lot deeper than Microcenter's return policy or even the 1080 ti. And not cool? lol ... ummm ... okay ....... I think .... and this seems really weird but, errmmm .... ok ..........

Sounds like you might not understand the reason behind some stores return policy. But, I really don't mind explaining if it means I get to give you some relief from being upset on top of, needed clarity.

So, the way a lot of store return policies work, the core value, is they want to keep the customer happy. In short, most store return policies say this, but not necessarily word for word. "If for any reason you are not satisfied, you have 30 days ( 15 for Best Buy ) to return your product, for a full refund or exchange.

A good example would be, if you buy a pair of jeans and later decide you don't like the fit. You really do not have to keep them. I hope you know this? I've ran into a few guys before that don't understand store return policies. Lots of places have them to keep customers happy.

Hope this helps you.

no problem with the store's policy but people abusing the store's policy. you lied to them. period. you want the card to use for weeks until the aib arrives so you can brag about it and then return it for a better card when they arrive. ive worked in retail so no matter how you try to spin it you will not change my mind. im not happy with it, it doesn't work in my setup, it doesn't fit those are valid return reasons. not I wanted a bigger e-peen for 3 weeks.

I agree. I worked retail too. Yea you buying it and then changing your mind or you need the money within return period I think that is acceptable. But to buy with the entire purpose of renting it for 3 weeks when you should be patient and just buy what you want is sort of unethical. It really boils down to ones personal values. Sadly some people think its okay to abuse the system and tell themselves and confuse valid returns and buying with intentions of renting and returning is the same thing.

Buying it knowing you are not going to keep it is disingenuous at best. If you were selling something unopened and knew that is what the person was going to do to you, would you sell it to him / her?

The generous return policy at MC is intended to encourage people to buy things without worry, not enable people to use them as a free rental service.

Seriously? Some of you are just.... way out there ... over sensitive and over zealous on the subject. Sorry but you do not get to interpret someone else's business and or polices to serve some sort of moral agenda. No, it doesn't work like that. You're allowed to be sensitive and hurt but do so quietly. I've absolutely done nothing wrong. And I know for damn sure all of you have bought something and returned it. As far as the reasons go, length of time, story given, none of it matters. It's beside the point. Moral-micro-management. Now I've seen it all.

Also, what's up with the assumptions? Who said anything about abusing anything. Where did that ever come from? Abuse what? Taking something back I wasn't happy with? You can't abuse a store policy if it allows you to return something if you're not happy. If I suspect I might want faster memory, a larger SSD, a different video card, brown keys on my mechanical keyboard instead of reds, it's not going to stop me from making a purchase and deciding later what it is exactly I want to do with my purchase and quiet honestly it's none of your business what I do, or what you do. Again, it's besides the point. You guys do hear yourself right? So what I'm hearing is if someone buys something, jeans, jewelry, PC memory, a laptop, a water-hose, I mean, literally 100,000 different things, etc etc that that person is now .... forever forced to keep that item indefinitely with no recurse for taking said item(s) back? They are not allowed to consider something else? j-e-s-u-s. People change their minds all the time. And as mentioned earlier, it's about a 7% return policy at the Metcalf Microcenter. I know, I've asked. It's the cost of doing business. Boy, those 7% that are out there are clueless that a few of you guys think of them as "disingenuous" rofl.

And buy the way, you would really love my friend Chris. lol. He takes everything back. Honestly, personally speaking, I keep 99% of the stuff I buy but I have no problem admitting that I do buy things I'm not entirely sure I'm going to keep or even use. A lot of my returns are unopened! "Rent free?" really ...

Assuming and being sensitive and over zealous, I mean, those are some choice qualities guys. Really.

Also, I just read, nVidia is considering, or maybe it's a leak I read but the new founders edition is supposed to be coming out with 2 fans. That should ease your suffering in knowing that at least a few people out there might not exercise their store return policy privileges.

Also, I worked at Best Buy for a 1.5 years, not the best job but we told people all the time if they wanted a different laptop, a larger hard-hard, different speakers, whatever the case may be to return the product, that they had 30 days to do so. Dealing with 1,000's of customers, I would never ever think of them badly for returning something.

Sorry, you guys are ...... reaching ....

you aren't changing your mind or unhappy with it or it didn't perform, you are renting it so you can have a bigger e-peen 3 weeks earlier. that is abusing the return policy. now they have to sell the old used card at a discount. same reason you cant rent/return big screen tvs during super bowl. oh, now I see that you are saying there is a 7% restocking fee, this is why. your best buy examples are valid reasons.

It's a simple case of ethics. Your intent is not to purchase... it is to rent instead of purchase by abusing a return policy.

A "return policy" is not the same thing as a "step up" policy. A "return policy" is also not a "rental policy". Folks abusing the shit out of return policies and thinking they are just fine and justified doing so is the reason why return policies get eroded to the point that they become severely restricted and/or turn to utter crap, penalizing those that have legitimate returns.

Eventually all retailers will track shitty customers that pull such crap and start sharing shitty customers lists. Hell, Amazon pretty much tracks shitty customers abusing return policies right now. Pull that sort of shit with Amazon and they'll simply cut you off at the knees, cancelling your account with them for repeatedly pulling such crap.

Quote: "I've absolutely done nothing wrong."

You've become that kid that's peeing in the pool and thinking that what you've done is just fine.

Exactly. This is why we can't have nice things.

Huge wall of text and didn't even answer my question. Nice.

The breakthrough part is a lot of hype it seems. New rumor is 40-50% faster than existing 1080. So as I previously said 2080 or whatever it’s called will be little faster then 1080ti. Which should make sense since it’s not a full node shrink. Probably more cuda cores at similar clocks and some new ray tracing features I guess.

Is there definition of breakthrough being slower than 2017's Titan V?

Hype is meaningless.

Apparently there wasn't a question worth answering. I have an excellent bs filter btw.

Mob mentality for a non-issue.

Again, assumptions ... assumptions ... why? Answer me that. When I first bought the 1080 ti, like everyone else I had no clue how much hotter it would run. like many, I soon discovered the founders edition ran hot and decided to return it. Now, with the 2080 or 1180 or whatever it's going to be called I am def going to get one and I do anticipate having to return it because of heat issues but, then again, maybe not. As I said, it's being reported that the new F.E. cards will have dual fans. We will have to wait and see. Also, I'm not going to get into a situation where prices suddenly sky rocket or availability becomes an issue. Screw that. I'll get my card and have it, nuff said.

I am also looking at getting the new Titan as long as it isn't priced crazily. And that card I will def be stuck with. I'm not aware of any Titan Cards with aftermarket cooling.

Listen, all of you are more than welcome to play extra special nice with any stores return policy, never return anything, hold hands, sing Kum Ba Yah, whatever. I could care less. I am def not going to take a loss.

Well, the same reason you refuse to answer the question is the reason I make the assumption about their return policy. At least you've acknowledged it, although unknowingly apparently.

Have a good one.

Hype is meaningless.

Titan V is a current gen product though. If you consider last gen launch of GTX 1080, Titan X, and then Titan XP, they basically just flipped the release schedule of the the Titan X and GTX 1080. The new Titan RTX will be a little faster than the Titan V--faster RAM, more ROPs.

Looks like the RTX is real. The RTX Titan is probably what the early leaks called the 1180+.

So pecking order:
RTX Titan, RTX 2080, RTX 2070
GTX 2060, GTX 2050

I'm guessing prices of:
$3k, $699, $499
$299, $199

Based on the new leaks.

If you want ray tracing, Nvidia is going to force you to buy RTX and shell out at least $499 IF you are even lucky enough to find one on sale at MSRP.

If you are not interested in ray tracing you can buy the lower end 'new' GTX 20xx cards but the performance to value ratio seems questionable to me.

Bottom line, I don't regret buying a GTX 1080 at a very reasonable price today.

When the RTX 2080 Ti comes out, that is probably the card that people will really gun for but Nvidia likely won't release that card UNTIL AMD releases their next generation GPUs. I have a feeling that team green is saving that card as a counterpunch/answer to team red.

Oh the one thing I DON'T like about this next generation of video cards is the whacky projected memory configurations.

24GB/8GB/7GB on RTX
5GB/4GB on GTX.

Why Nvida, why? The only way I see this happening is if Nvidia is assiging different bus widths to each individual graphics card. Which would then make sense from a technical viewpoint, but getting LESS memory on a NEWER video card generation does NOT make sense.

I think ray tracing will be enabled on the whole lineup, but lower end will probably be less than stellar performance, and not optimized for it. It's kind of impressive, if true, that they are going to segment the lineup with the amount of memory, pressure to buy high end was never so high before.

Hopefully the memory thing is a lie, because AMD could easily counter that, and NV would know that, but at the same time, it would be a way to protect them selfs against GDDR memory pricing.

I'm really hoping all the rumors are wrong and a 2060/$300 card is not weaker than a 1070. Little more than a week till we know but the constant GTX 1080 deals are so damn tempting too. You can get a MSI GTX 1080 Duke on Newegg for $429 after rebate right now, ugh!!

I don't think anyone that got a 1080ti in the past year near retail is regretting their purchase if the 2080 is only 15% faster.

An additional 15% isn't going to get the 1080Ti up to 4k120, and that's my next stop- whenever those monitors come in around 35" and <US$1000 :D

A 2060 at 1070 speeds for ~US$300 would be awesome. Even better would be a slot-powered 2050Ti at 1060 speeds!

Also, 15% more performance doesn't mean squat if you're hitting the VRAM limit -- something that certainly happens at 4k with 8GB memory.

Well, we're at 11GB with the 1080Ti, though I don't play at 4k so that hasn't really been an issue.

Next-gen should give us more where needed.

Turing is a whole new arch. What is your reasoning?

No reasoning, just guessing really based on the performance numbers from last week's "leak". Although maybe RTX Titan performance prediction was a bit higher than the "full" GV100 with all ROPs, but what do I know?

From today's presentation, seems to be completely new chips.

And it looks like they traded die space for RT cores versus shaders. So we have a drop from 5120 shaders to 4608 shaders, and the IPC seems the same (going by TFLOP numbers), so at the same clock speed the new Titan RTX might be slower than a Titan V, unless something surprising happens (128 ROPs maybe?). This is assuming Quadro RTX 8000 and Titan RTX end up being similar products.

On the other hand, if new games can leverage these new RT cores, then it might be worth it.

I'm sure they will have games launching with the card, and maybe some games already out adding the ability to use RTX, otherwise it wouldn't be a selling point. I doubt performance will be much different form Titan V in games, that don't use RTX.
