AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX & 2950X Unboxing

AMD is allowing us to pull back the curtain on it upcoming Generation 2 Threadripper packaging. The new model 2900WX and 2950X CPUs will certainly not be missed on retail shelves and this time the CPUs have a sort of "collector's case" for those of us enthusiasts that like to display such things. It also works a lot better than it did last time around.

Greetings from AMD –

AMD today announced worldwide pre-order availability of the highly anticipated flagship 2nd Generation AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX desktop processor from more than 80 global etailers and system integrators in advance of the product hitting shelves Aug. 13. Breaking the single socket world-record for the Cinebench R15 multi-threaded CPU test, the 32-core, 64-thread 2nd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX CPU is designed for professional content creators, developers, and PC enthusiasts.

The 32-core part will be joined by three additional 2nd Gen Threadripper CPUs coming to market in 2018, all of which are built on 12nm “Zen+” core architecture and are designed for creators and gamers.

Along with the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX pre-sales today, you will begin to see technical coverage of some of these parts, including unboxing videos/coverage from tech reviews press. This will be followed by full 3rd party benchmarking and reviews going live aligned with the Aug. 13 on-shelf availability of the 32-core flagship processor.

Cool stuff. Intel needs to get off their ass before AMD turns to Intel from lack of competition.

Carrying case? FFS, just get us a package that can protect the product and easy to open!
I don't need fancy boxes.
Have to admit the modular PSU I bought did come a plastic parts case which was very useful, but this AMD case is just for show. The internal hand size case is good tho.

I noticed remnants of thermal compound on and around the IHS, perhaps you have already tested the hell out it!?

Not that impressed with the outer box package, looks/feels insecure with all the see-through parts and is a bit odd unclean design in general but I absolutely adore the smaller CPU securing enclosure.

i wish you guys could add X-Plane 11 to you tests its one of the few single threaded* aps around and what keeps me tied to Intel atm

*the flight physics is done on a single thread and locked with the frame rate among other things

but it really wants clock speeds and high IPC

Uh, OK. Not sure what this has to do with this thread. You need single thread perf and high clocks.....guess what? You do not want at 2990WX or 2950X.
