Hey everyone,
Finally built my new PC after about 5 years and after all set and done I turn it on but no video output :(. I have a i5 8400 /16g DDR4 / z370m mortar. The CPU light comes on as solid red. I tried re seating the CPU but nothing, check the 8 pin connecters were plugged in tight and nothing. I went to the store and swapped for a new CPU and still nothing. Tried removing RAM sticks, clearing CMOS and no luck. Tried inserting a GPU and plugging in from there and still no luck. Left CPUfan header just in case. Any other suggestions or would this be a case of DOA MOBO :(
Added pics of set up just in case
I took pics of the whole set up just in case

Are you testing it without a cooler on it? Probably won't post without a cooler if it gets hot too fast.

In the beginning had the heatsink on, removed after a while to move parts around easier. Have the CPU fan plugged in though. Tried even with no GPU just to see if it gets an image but no go.

you have a speaker attached to the board to hear the post codes?

I have a set of speakers near by. Would I just plug them to the PC and turn it on to see if it makes any beep noises?
he was talking about the tiny 2 pin speakers that used to come with boards lol

lol, ya, I am talking about the little PC speaker, I have one attached to the bottom right of my mobo, it's the round thing with 2 wires dangling from the motherboard.

I found a 4 pin speaker and plugged it into the JFP2 socket but no POST codes :( I tried rebotting my PC with no RAM to see if it would trigger any beeps but nothing as well.

You can try building the system outside your case to rule out any short. Make sure you do this in an ESD safe environment, if you built your tower standing on a carpet (for example), you may have damaged a component from ESD event.
Disconnect all devices non-critical for post, GPU,HDD,m.2,SSD etc... clear CMOS when everything is removed then remove RAM and see if you get beeps.

That board is missing at least one mounting screw and possibly more... And the screws that are holding the board in place look like the wrong type of screw?

It’s probay fried or has a damaged CPU socket. The missing screw and running the PC without a heat sink make me inclined to think this board is at high risk of user damage.
