So I bought this drive brand new off Newegg.ca and I've tried to register the drive for the warranty at Samsung.ca AND Samsung.com using my S/N and these websites tell me that my S/N is incorrect.

Tried calling Samsung CS. I spoke to 3 different agents who told me that they couldn't register my SSD.

I asked for a call back from their supervisor/manager because they were in a meeting. I was told I'd receive a call back tonight and the call never came in.

Now, I've owned multiple SSDs that have died before the 5 year mark, so I'd appreciate it if they could honor their warranty.

What do you guys think I should do? Should I contact Newegg to see if there's something they can do?

If you have an invoice, Totalts.com handles the samsung ssd/memory cards warranty in Canada (USA also.) You could ask them via the online chat if they even need an invoice. I just delt with them yesterday for some samsung evo mem cards that died after 5 years (10 year warranty) and they only asked for pictures of the serial #.

Edit: I had issues with the registration of my 960pro, after calling cs, it turns out that the number on the box/ssd and the number in the samsung magician app was different. CS told me to use the app because it reads the s/n off the drive and it cant be tampered with. If I remember correctly, the app s/n had one more digit at the end compaired to what was on the box/ssd sticker.

Cool, thanks for that. Yah, I can see that they left off one letter from the packaging for the S/N. I'm still baffled that 3 different Samsung CS agents didn't think to tell me this when I specifically told them that I'm reading off the S/N on the packaging. Either way, I was now able to register the drive myself online. Thanks!

Did you buy it directly from Newegg corporate or through one of their marketplace sellers? Just as with Amazon, there have been some less than reputable sellers selling fake and/or modified product.

I think it might be done on purpose because I just checked another one of my samsung ssds and its the same thing (2 different products from samsung.) One digit is missing/left off the stickers but the s/n from the app works.

Likely to prevent registration until you open it, as to what purpose that holds, not sure.

validation check (samsung magician won't even recognize it as a samsung drive if there is not internet when you run samsung magician for first time)

Or at least support, if you have to RMA obviously they would find out. Like I said I’m not sure the purpose of that.

How hard is it to go through all the combinations for the last digit? Not seeing the point.

Try this, the drive has a letter at the end, use a program like crystaldiskinfo to get the full SN and then it will register. Do not go by the SN on the box, the drive should have the full SN.

Samsungs own app (as mentioned in the 2nd post,) shows the full number along with some other info/tools.
