I know many of you love your phablets and are looking forward to the new more powerful Galaxy Note 9. I've got good news for you and it's the fact that many of the previous leaks of specs seem to be confirmed in the official launch video that just leaked out. You're going to have up to 1tb of storage, a more powerful processor, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a longer life battery, and a snazzy yellow stylus to doodle with. Check out the leaked trailer and drool.

Watch the video here.

Lots of incremental changes. Good if you dont have a note 8 (I do) but more of the same if you do.

You know, I keep buying devices with the pencils, my surface book, my iPad pro 12, etc. But I rarely ever use the writing device :(. Funny how you THINK you will need it, but never do.

smartphones peaked around the 5s/s5. great size and samsung apple didnt have to change things for the sake of a new release and more $$$. the iphone se is cheap and perfect. cant believe people are still buying these giant phones.

Pass no removable battery. Wonder if you can root or change ROMs? My currant Samsung has a locked bootloader and they patched the root method. Luckily I pause the update patch before it finished.
Might just jump the Samsung bandwagon if they keep this shit up.
I'll stick with mid tier phone which I can hold on to til the screen/body craps out.

My Note 4 still does everything I need, plus it has a replaceable battery. Don't see any reason to spend several hundred dollars for small improvements.

Maybe I'll upgrade to a note 8 in a few years, when I can get a used one for $150. :D

After the last note debacle, you would have thought they would have gone to a removable battery, so they could just replace that if this one starts having issues too. Idiots.

Up till my son showed me the things you can high light and copy using the s-pen that you can never do with just your finger, I never used it that much as well. (He has my old note 5, I have a note 8, with my first note being the note 3). Example, try and copy a word from one of the icon labels on your home screen. You can't with your finger, it won't let you, and causes you to bring up various options, but you won't be able to highlight and copy any of the words. You can with your S-pen. Same holds true for many other things you can't copy using your finger, but it works with the s-pen. It is also easier than using your finger to high-light and copy as the s--pen is more accurate.

Carriers are responsible for most of the locked boot loaders and such, not Samsung. I understand about no removable battery, but it isn't really that big of a deal, it is s warranty issue if it needs changed, and after the warranty period, if you have a protection plan, it is covered at no charge under that (at least with Verizon).

I had a 2 and 4. Have the 8 now. It's a lot faster than the 4. Battery is a non-issue, works great. Touchwiz works great.

I got into Android with the very first G2, spent lots of time rooting and Roming, now I use my phone for work and to arrange dates with members of the opposite sex. I'm a lot happier this way. : )

Touchwiz is great.

The pen is great, I use it for, get this, notes! Every once in a while I want to write something down and not lose it. Perfect.

Awesome device.

Probably skip the 9, but might get it.

I also like Windows 10 and let it update whenever it wants to. : )

I'd write more, but I'm getting a message on my Note about my date tonight after work. cya

I'm looking forward to it myself, but I'm not sure if I'll buy it. I need to see the price first.

HardOCP - Samsung Marketing US thanks you for the free front page advert. Times are hard for us, and this model is only a minor incremental update, and we thought we would try to build up some hype using sites that are already receptive to our marketing and brand.

Many thanks,
Samsung Marketing US.

Jesus, the only number in the entire thing was support for up to 1tb storage. Who cares? Screen res? HDR? Battery capacity ("Lasts all day" is useless) ? RAM? Actual storage options for the phone? Camera spec? Chipset?

Nope. It's purple with a 'powerful' 'new' S-Pen, a battery that lasts all day, and has expandable storage. Fuck everything about this launch video.

And this is definitely the first time that [H]ard OCP has EVER had an article that wasn't a radically new and revolutionary design change. ; p

BTW link me to a phone or actually ANY hardware that is radically new and revolutionary and not a minor incremental update. Tic-Toc

The Segway will change everything!

You missed the part where they mentioned it's 27% more magical than an iPhone?

Does it still have Touchwiz? It does? Pass....

Touchwiz hasn't been a thing for years. It's Samsung Experience which can be easily replaced with any other launcher. You can even switch to Googles default home launcher but they haven't updated that one in years either.

After swearing off Google phones (multiple Nexus devices stuck in boot loop or dieing at 50% battery remaining) I bought a Note 8. Won't be buying another Samsung with the edge screen. It's terrible for someone who actually works for a living. I keep breaking screens with the phone in my pocket and leaning over something. No good cases because of the edge screen.

They don't have the "courage" to remove it.

Why remove it when there's space and demand for it? Many flagship phones have good DAC's built in and play lossless and DSD audio which is great. Fuck Apple and their nonsense for removing features or pushing their way on people who end up being so delusional that they end up defending their moves.

Hi zkostik. Guess you don't see that we are making fun of Apple.. Apple called it "courage" to remove the headphone jack. We all know Apple removed it so they could sell more addon items like the stupid ass dongles. Nothing to do with keeping the product consumer friendly.

Haha, I know all the Apple love here but sometimes it's hard to tell. I'm getting a new Mac laptop at work with a bag of dongles (no choice in that). Sigh!

I do use ink quite a bit on my Surfaces but not much on my Note 8. It can be handy but it's kind of like writing on a Post-It note even for a phone that size.

Oh lord... LOL. Make sure you don't get one of their special release editions.... Throttles by design. "courage". :)

Wow... its like you stepped right out of 2012... Let me guess.. iPhone user that hasn't even held an android phone in 6 years?

Wow, you are amazing. Current phone: LG V30. Previous phones: Galaxy S7, LG G4, Oneplus One, Nexus 4, LG Optimus V... and not a single iPhone.

My Galaxy S7 was great in the beginning, but it started having lag and stuttering due to Touchwiz/Samsung experience after a few months, and I was running Nova Launcher. If I could have installed a custom ROM, I would have loved the S7.

Be careful, there’s some rabid Samsung fans here.

I used to use Samsung phones, but never again. Too much crap to deal with.

I've used some Samsung phones with disappointment, but I am willing to give it another go. The LG phones I haven't given too much of a chance, although I was interested in the LG V35. I've mostly owned Pixels, Nexus, and iPhones. I think that the Note 9 may be interesting if they use 8gb ram.

I’m always willing to give another OEM a chance but Samsung (and a few others *cough*lg) have yet to prove a good track record for software updates. I wanted the essential phone to take off and if they release another one it might!

I have a Note 8. With a simple touch, I was able to turn the edge screen crap off!
I work with my phone, daily. I read electrical prints and service manuals on it. I write up service reports and inspection findings. I take pictures, notes, use the flashlight, read stupid ass comments like yours, and have the customer sign my work off.
I work in just about the worst environments imaginable(industrial cranes). All I have on my phone (and every previous Note back to the Note 2) has been an otterbox commuter. This thing has even taken a 30' fall off a crane I was working on, and survived to live another day.
Sounds to me like you just like to jump on the hate train, or you're a bull in a China shop.

And for everyone bitching about internal battery... Is there a waterproof phone with a removable battery?

I think that it's funny that you mention them since the essential ph-1 is my current phone and I was happily surprised that it got android pie on the same day as the google phones. I purchased it during the prime day sale for $250, and it is a steal at that price. I do hope that they release another phone because this phone is well built and the support has been fantastic.

They should offer the flat screen like the note 5 for people like me who don't want that POS curved screen.

I don't think that they'll ever go away from this curved screen trend back to a flat screen. It is not as pronounced on the note9 in comparison to the other Samsung devices I've tested.
