Elon Musk is wanting to keep Tesla in the news as much as possible and his latest stunt is a tweet telling his loyal followers that the next software update will have Easter Eggs in the way of Atari games. The games to be included haven't been identified, but they will be able to be played on the center console. Further, he put out a tweet to game developers asking them to consider applying to Tesla to create games for his cars. I guess this is his way of segmenting his cars.

Just ahead of Tesla’s second-quarter earnings call, CEO Elon Musk gave customers a heads up that Atari games will be part of the car’s latest software update.

As much nostalgia as Atari gives me, going back and playing those old games isn't really that fun .
Not so much the graphics, the SOUND will kill your ears...
I think 90 percent of the Atari games sound like Yar''s Revenge.

Why are they called Easter Eggs when they have absolutely nothing to do with Easter?

Great, so now people will be playing video games while using the Autopilot.

that was about my ONLY thought when seeing that. on the center console.. so you can game while the car is driving. that should end well..

Yar's Revenge ... ah, memories. So many hours wasted. So much "Atari claw."

It's referring to Easter Egg hunts, where children hunt for eggs to collect from hidden areas. The idea is that it was hidden by the developer or someone else involved in the project and put there for others to find. In context of software, including games, it's more of a programmer's signature. Sometimes it can lead to extra content, like on DVD video. The Korn DVD "Deuce" is notoriously full of Easter Eggs; one needed an elaborate map just to find all the content on the disc.

The use of the term "Easter egg" to describe secret features originates from the 1979 video game Adventure for the Atari 2600 game console, programmed by employee Warren Robinett. At the time, Atari did not include programmers' names in the game credits, fearing that competitors would attempt to steal their employees. Robinett, who disagreed with his supervisor over this lack of acknowledgment, secretly inserted the message "Created by Warren Robinett". This message would only appear if a player moved his/her avatar over a specific pixel (the "Gray Dot") during a certain part of the game. When Robinett left Atari, he did not inform the company of the acknowledgment that he included in the game. Shortly after his departure, the Gray Dot and his message were exposed by a player who told Atari about his discovery. Atari's management initially wanted to remove the message and release the game again, but this was deemed too costly an effort. Instead, Steve Wright, the Director of Software Development in the Atari Consumer Division, suggested that they keep the message and, in fact, encourage the inclusion of such messages in future games, describing them as Easter eggs for consumers to find

Musk guarantees that the Loot Boxes are for cosmetic items* only and do not make the games pay to win.

*Cosmetic items include rgb headlights & turn signals that flash to the music, lcd paint changing body panels, electroluminescent window tint. Available on select models only.

We need Nintendo 8-bit games. Those are still fine to play in 2018. Atari games are just arcade games without quarters needed.

Great idea! Dozens of people will be amused for a while.
This is the kind of novelty that will take Tesla to the top!
Needs to keep Tesla in the news so the price can stay above the limit for the bonds. I think it's why he's been so erratic (more than usual).

Forgot the exact number. But there's a few significant bond deadlines totaling $1bil .. if the stock stays above certain waypoints when they mature, TSLA saves a lot.

I would hope that people base their investment decisions on a company's financials, and/or developments like Tesla's announcement on AI chips. 35 year-old video games in the console? Not so much.

Just what I want: car manufacturers playing games with the software that runs my vehicle.

Its not relevant to this thread.

Whether or not Elon Musk is a Liar and a Fraud it is not relevant to a thread about Elon Musk keeping Tesla in the News by releasing Tesla Branded Surfboards?

Oh so you're focusing on the editorializing and not the actual article like almost everyone else was? Got it.

Yes. I was focusing on the topic of Elon Musk keeping Tesla in the news. The very first sentence of the first post was editorializing. I was continuing the discussion.

Have you not kept up with the stories about this guys lies to keep the money flowing?

I'm pretty sure it's his age that attracts most followers. If he was an old crusty billionaire tryibg half this shit everyone would be calling for a medical evaluation.

People relate to him. Everyone trying to keep the young guy down!
