EA is going to start signups for their new Origin Access Premier service next week. This service will set you back $14.99 per month or $99.99 per year. Your subscription will allow you to play their newest games for that price and also offers play five days before launch. The current Origin Access will stay the same and be labeled as Basic. Some of the upcoming games you will be able to play are Madden NFL 19, FIFA 19, Battlefield 5, and Anthem. If you think about it this isn't a bad price to pay for what you're getting. Most of these games will be $60 each upon release and you get them all for $99.99 a year. Not too shabby unless you are a diehard EA hater.

During E3, Electronic Arts announced that Origin Access Premier will include all new PC games from the company. They also named and dated four games: “Madden NFL 19” on Aug. 2, “FIFA 19 on Sept. 20,” “Battlefield 5” on Oct. 11, and “Anthem: Feb. 15.”

That takes pre-ordering to a whole new level...not sure what I think about that...

Slightly confused; you get ALL the newly released titles that are supported by the service for $99.99 TOTAL? If so, that's a damn good deal.

I am not an EA hater per se, but that doesnt mean i trust them with this service. I think i will just sit back and see how it goes.

Look at what EA isn't advertising with this. They're quietly killing the "On the House" program in Origin.

Might be worth it for a year to go through the catalog of EA titles. The website says 122 games are available. Since I rarely finish games, i'd probably do monthly when new games release as i'm likely bored or finished with the game within a month. Color me cautiously optimistic.

you rent the library of games for the subscription duration. you stop paying.. you stop playing..

Sure. The question is are you going to buy $100 worth of EA games year after year? In my case it'd be a close call but with Madden coming to the PC this year I'm going to hit that threshold this year. If we were talking about Steam it be a no brainer for most gamers in a place like this cause we're easily going to spend way more than $100 on Steam games every year.

Think I'm in on this for at least a year.

Hmm, I kind of like the idea....
No. This the beginnings of their games as a service buissness model. I don't trust EA to roll this out as something that is good for customers. You never own the games is the main thing atm. Who knows what other restriction there will be.

I am willing to bet this also means that the current Origin Access (Soon to be "Basic") will have a vastly scaled back library going forward, at least as far as how quickly games get added to it.

Damn you EA. I'll probably bite on this and also am a EA hater... lol!

If it were Steam, I would do it for $99 in a second. I would probably even go up to $125 a year. I like FIFA and Madden, but ignore most of the rest of EA games (was interested in the SW:Battlefront 2 loot box debacle). Both FIFA and Madden I only buy every other year at most. I can keep playing the old one just fine until a new one with some change that is actually interesting drops. This subscription service also further incentivizes them to include loot boxes and other IAP in their games.

Only Origin game i play is Battlefield and i don`t want to rent that (they last 2 year each usually)
so no thanks

but if you are into sport games that lose their value after each new version is out then this is for you

Haven't bought an EA game since Alice Return to Madness. EA, Not even once

Thinking about Steam doing this has made me curious now. If Steam started a subscription service similar to this but with a number of games limit, for $99, what number of games that you could select for your "subscription library" would make it enough for you to feel like it was worth it?

Not bad pricing wise if you pickup a few of their sports titles year after year. My concern being are they going to care enough about improving their sports titles year after year if they've got a certain number of subscribers to buoy themselves.

You mean like services for movies and music? I have moved away from owning because I have a whole shelf of dvd and blurays and rarely touch them. Same thing happened with game discs/boxes.

This just seems like "I hate EA and I don't buy their games anyways" so what is your point? You haven't owned a game since the internet (technically you never have). If any of these game services went under you are out all of those. Yes there are some stragglers that will go drm free. Yes steam lets you do offline mode, but mind you that is an offering by them, it could be revoked. And many games still wont work that way.

No doubt it is not for everyone. Honestly I would love to pay a service fee and be able to play any game I want, it would certainly stop the buyers remorse situations. I do wonder how sustainable it is as said for continued development.

fuck ea until they make ultima online fun again with a modern client and thoughtful spawns and loot.

I'm not a die-hard EA hater, but I Think this is a brilliant idea from their perspective. But I hate what it means to me as a gamer. It means they're no longer trying to make money on selling games. But on selling in-game items. As in microtransatctions. I bet they can make more money this way.

So prepare for a wave of games where you pay for everything. You want to change your characters hairstyle? That'll be $2.50. Ah, you want to change it back? Another $2:50. You want this cool new armor? $9.99.

iIm really not looking forward to this. I'd rather pay $60 or even $80 and get a full game where everything is accessible.

I'll probably do this since I'm interested in both Madden and Anthem. I very rarely replay anything after I complete it, so this is great for people like me. In the rare instance that I do feel like replaying something, it's not that big of a deal to keep that subscription active or even pay for a single game at a later date.

I'm not sure I see this as a gateway to additional fees. I see it as a way to get $100 out of people who would normally only pay < $60. Madden interests me, but it's not like I was ready to throw down $60 on it...until I saw this.

This is likely to make them a lot of money. I'd recommend people stay the fuck out but people never listen to me. Maybe they are right

As someone who wouldn't mind plowing through DA: Inquisition / MA: Andromeda for approximately $10 (2 months), the basic plan certainly has its appeal.

Valve doesn't have any new In-House games with none planned that I'm aware of. EA has a vibrant (for varying tastes) In-House library. If Valve launched a similar service with Half-Life Episode 3, Left 4 Dead 3, Portal 3, Team Fortress 3, Steam Champions, SiN Episodes (2-10)....

I thought I was the only one who liked the first and only SiN episode.

I loved it back in the day, I would love to see it come back. For the heck of it, if Valve can get the No One Lives Forever franchise, I'd be pretty happy.

Kind of middle of the road with EA. Back in the 8bit Atari/Apple/Commodore days they were pretty awesome. I used to smile when I saw their logo on a box back then, good times. I'm well aware of the many shady practices they, and others, have done from the 2000's to now. That being said, I did get access a year or so ago and actually liked it. Got all the Mass Effect, Dead Space, Crysis, Dragon's Age, Ultima games to name a few. Plus a handful of others including, SW Battlefront, BF1, some NFS games. Very happy with it. Still a lot of other games to choose from, just not interested in them. Closest complaints I have are their servers aren't as fast as Steam and the client updater can be twitchy. I doubt I'll upgrade to the premier, but we'll see.

If you only play a games for a short period this isn't terrible. However if you play a title like BF until the next BF, you'd only pay $60 for two years of play, vs. $200.

The value of this strictly depends on how many EA games you play and for how long you plan to play them. It becomes a decent value if you like at least two games on the list and you don't care if the game list changes after a year...which I have a feeling it probably will.

I still get my EA games for like 10 dollars....so no
Also don't like the idea of 'renting' games
