Would love to get more HGST ones but can only see Seagate and WD out there and have not had great reliability with either brands over the past decade.

Can I have some real world recommendations from owners on what they have thats worked out fine?

Thank you :)

Are you OK with buying a raw HGST 4 TB drive and an external case? Or do youo need a 2.5" drive form factor? and not 3.5" form factor?

I bought the 6TB HGST NAS which rumbles, has loud seek and powers down even though I have set power saving to none.
Often when I need to access the drive I have to wait a couple of seconds and hear it power up.

I dont trust this drive to be the same quality as previous drives.
My older 4TB HGST is quieter in all respects and doesnt power down.
New HGST /= old HGST

I dont have a 4TB drive but everything in between upto 8TB.. But from what I understand the 4TB Seagates are now very reliable. They are often faster and use less power than the 5TB which are often based on the same electronics and chasis. I get the 5TB because for the same space you get a little extra by using another platter.

Often the problems are in a starting production line or ending production line when they substitute much chaper parts to bring down prices like we saw in the 2TB drives. The ones in the middle are very realible and last a decade..
