What game(s) will never die?

Die in what sense? Never stop creating new content, or never die in our hearts?

For the first stipulation, WoW. The second, the Quake series.

UT99, Chronotrigger, Diablo 2, and WoW Classic & Burning Crusade. Sunwell Plateau raiding was my glory days...

Metal Gear. I remember playing the OG MG on the NES when I was 12. I have MG:TPP but haven't found the desire to play it yet. Can't believe it's still going, just like Zelda and Super Mario Bros. Been around 30 fucking years or more. These millennials' have no clue the history involved and thousands of hours we spent on the forerunners of these games. If we are speaking PC games, than Quake, Doom and Wolfenstein FTW!

Agreed, Metal Gear will never be dead to me. Even though the series may be dead with no Kojima. If Konami did get serious and make a true spin off series with a decent director I would probably give it a try, though I won't be buying Survive. MG-MGSV always had that "next level" gameplay feel to me and I always enjoyed it. I just reinstalled TPP and started doing FOBs again occasionally a few weeks ago. Though I wish I still had a playstation atleast to play the older series. Didn't play MG-MG2 until MGS3 Subsistance came out so I technically haven't played the series since the beginning, but started with MGS1 after playing the demo forever. It quickly became my favorite game series back then, only to be replaced by Dark Souls many years later.

Doom of course. Duke Nukem 3D is still in active development.. Quakes,
Sonic, Donkey Kong and Mario games.. Commander Keen has a small following also. I still fire up all these games from time to time, and so do many other people

Doom and Skyrim, obviously.
Diablo II.
League of Legends now that NK won't nuke SK.

Counter Strike
Diablo 2
Warcraft 3
League of Legends
World of Warcraft
Runescape

I honestly don't know why I keep coming back to this game, especially when all I play is straight vanilla CTF2Fort. (no friendlies, no memes, no BS)
I get on a winter kick every year or so for about four weeks Games are quick-ish.. action filled.. and constantly changing depending if you have okayish folk.

All good games from all platforms will live on in my comprehensive personal archives.

The only games that can REALLY die are stupid ones that require company servers to play that will inevitably be taken down at some point.

Call of Duty! EA just keeps releasing COD games every single year, its crazy how anybody even buys that crap, but they do and it will never die.

Yeah it beats me why some companies restrict users from creating local home servers for multiplayer games.

Back on the PS3 in 2007, there's this 32 player multiplayer game named warhawk and I used to host and play on a 32 person server I hosted. They even allowed it to be ranked.

You'll still find people playing it today because of that.

That is the biggest mistake I see about most games that rely heavily (or completely) on the multiplayer end of things. Studios and publishers just don't want to give players that much power apparently. If the company wants to run their own official servers, that's great, but why keep users from running their own too? They can still sell DLC and nickel and dime people, they can restrict ranked matches to official servers if they're that worried about it. There's no GOOD reason to keep this functionality out of any game.

Deus Ex 1 w/ GMDX
Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines w/ Unofficial Patch
Return to Castle Wolfenstein w/ ioRTCW
Mass Effect 1

Some really good mentions in this thread. One to add; Total Annihilation. Also lot of people play HL1/BMS&HL2s, even deathmath.

All these games already have died.

Unless you don’t call a steeply downtrending player base year after year dying...

Age of Empires III. How many enhanced versions have come out since its release?

I still play the original Wolfenstein 3D from time to time. It's still pretty fun these days. I even played it on an old iPod when I had one way back when. (One of the few action games that translated ok to touch controls since it's so simple.)
