You could find a 1080 Ti for $550 or less on eBay with their site wide coupons a few days ago and that is 4x as fast as a RX 580 for basically 2x the price. Polaris should be a $149 GPU.

It does not matter which card you get now for what price since the newest card is 2 years (or performance) old so it is likely going to be dated within 12 months.

Meh. Waiting for a Vega56 with aftermarket cooling at a decent (near MSRP) price.
 
By New Year's I think we'll see some crazy deals on Vega56 unless they cut production or a new ASIC-proof coin takes off again.
 
Bad thing about all this waiting for prices to normalize is that now I demand interest on my patience.

Its like at MSRP is no longer acceptable for cards that have been out this long.

Definitely a case of if I've waitied this long, I guess I can keep on waiting.

Followed close by, I guess I didn't really need the upgrade anyway. GT1030? Guess that'll due.

I think at this point AMD will bring the prices down for sure if Nvidia releases new cards. They really have no other options as they wont have anything new until 7nm production ramps up next year. Demand for Vega cards must still be high since they are so good at mining I guess. They are likely selling them. I think AMD does have solid offering if you look at freesync 2 HDR and overall package. Even with Vega refresh on 7nm they can offer a decent solution vs gsync. I have a gsync monitor but man if I had to upgrade to HDR I wouldn't mind going AMD route. Since Gsync HDR wants an arm and a leg lol. Just waiting until where we are next year in the HDR game.
 
The sooner new cards are released, the sooner I can start waiting for the Ti variant of the 11-series. Gotta stay content with what I have but damn, pretty crazy I've had this 1080 over 2 years already, kind of doesn't feel like it's really been 2 years.

I have a feeling the 1180 will be a bit underwhelming, I just dont see much of a bump this generation. Might also be why AMD is not in a rush as well. Pascal went really well for Nvidia and they got way better performance then they were expecting, it would be extremely difficult for Nvidia to pull that off back to back.

I agree here, I think it's going to be a more lackluster jump compared to Maxwell to Pascal, they really did hit it out of the park with the 10 series. I'm just waiting for that card that will allow me to peg my 1440p display right at at least 144Hz across the board with maximum eye-candy, and I have a feeling the new Ti will be the one to do that.

Plus I have to make my way on to the Ti train somehow, I have a hard time doing convincing myself to make the move up to one in the same gen.

It ain't over yet, some of this shit has been out awhile and should be cheaper now. MSRP for pascal at the end of its cycle is not a fucking deal. Nvidia is sitting on piles on them, don't be a sucker.

As an example I picked up RX 480 8GB (before rebadge edition came out) for $180 on 3/17. On 1080Ti launch I paid $700 aka msrp. LAST YEAR.

Its July 2018, if you NEED a card go get one, but if you are being sensible don't pay bullshit prices, wait them out.

I am not sensible for my hobbies though as I type this on a $250 fucking keyboard because the world accepts $2 chinesium trash, don't get me started.

Of course video cards are now about to drop... right after I had to spend $319 for the Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 LE on NewEgg when I thought my old video card was dying :/

Might want to check again. Used prices plummeted, and new is having quite a few sales these past weeks.

I'm out of the PC monitor shitshow come next refresh. Stagnation/forced obsolescence, overpriced, generally crap, poor quality (dated as fuck) panels, QC issues, buggy firmware. I looked into starting a PC monitor manufacturing company with a known [H]r here. A year+ ago, guess what the only barrier was to 4k/120/10bit/freesync panels? 1 million dollar minimum purchase order from Realtek for their appropriate chip. Or you have to go ASIC like the latest 4k gysyncs are. The fact these monitors are still not available (outside of 2kusd+ ASIC monitors like I was considering making but 40"+) speaks volumes.

I'll happily wait for VRR/Freesync?HDR TVs to come down to ~40" and snap one up. Mass market pricing and an actual market beyond niche high end stuff will drop the prices, consoles focusing on freesync will get the input lag way down. May even get a 2nd 65" for the lounge.. my office is my lounge too :)
 
I just ordered a vega 64 and had no problems finding them in stock. Nothing like a few months back when I tried to get one. Now I have two 580 8gbs for sale!
 
Bit the bullet on a XFX RX 580 4G for $229. Amazon has got crap for memory. Looking for more for the TR2 rig.

Glad you got something, but there is no way I am spending north of $200 for a card with only 4GB of Vram in August of 2018. This has been the strangest GPU cycle ever..I mean the LItecoin craze did not cause this kind of crap, but then again LC mining was shit on Nvidia and Team Green had Zcash this time around. I am doing just fine with little Vega farm, my pair of fastest cards are faster then anything other then a 2200Mhz 1080 (wash depending on the game) and a 1080TI of course.

I really have been considering moving to a 1440P 144Hz or 1440P UW 100Hz+ monitor but with the shitty state of HDR, and the high prices on OLD panels (as another member mentioned above) has me really waiting. I just am wasting all this GPU power on 1080P 80Hz. A single one of my 56s will keep the frame rate north of 100 in everything so FreeSync doesn't help much aside from when I VRR to 1800P. 4K VRR with low latency just cannot get here fast enough. The minute I can find a ~65" (space limited) VRR 4K that is acceptable for gaming for under $1200 I am buying it.
