Bitmain release a Asic Miner for Equihash

I still havent figured out why I cant get an MPH account. So Im all in on ZEC via flypool. FWIW, I did get a .5ZEC payout today.
 
My 2 came today. They worked out of the gate at 750mhz.

My cousin bought four of these and his friend bought one - all five of those clock to 750Mhz without issue to. Someone smart should figure out how to unlock the firmware clock and sell the unlocked firmware on eBay for $10 a pop. I wonder just how high these things could actually go? Temps are just fine, and we have a 60% - 70% overclock happening over original spec speed of 10ksol/s.

Just need to SSH into the unit (root/admin iirc):
cd /www/pages/cgi-bin
vi minerAdvanced.cgi
You'll see all the options of frequencies toward the bottom, just do that format for higher frequencies and save.
Then set it from the web panel as if you were setting it any other way.

I personally didn't notice improvement at 800 but then again, at 750, I'm not consistently above 17k sol either.

Bitmain released the regular Z9 today. The specs are pretty much exactly the same as 4 minis, but you can only apply 1 coupon of course, so 4x mini's where you can apply 4x $250 coupons is a better deal.

My 1st Z9 is now about 24 days away from ROI. I'm pretty pleased.

Power consumption: 1150W± 10%
Hashrate: 40.8k Sol/s ± 5%
Cost: $3,319

If it doesn't overclock *at least* the same 60% that the mini does, then it is an even worse buy. I did go ahead and bust out 2 more. I sold 4 $250 coupons to a fellow [Hard] member for $200, and applied two more that a friend gave me, towards the purchase of this new pair of Z9's. So a little under $550 a unit delivered to my door step. I think they too will ROI, but we'll see.
 
the Z9 and the Z9 Mini are on par with each other when comparing 1:1.

4x Z9 Mini : $3400 for 40k sols = $0.085/sol @ 1200W
Z9 : $3319 for 40k sols = $0.083/sol @ 1150W

Looking at these stats, it's kinda like bitmain just slapped 4 Z9 Minis together and made the Z9 while making it slightly more efficient in drinking electricity. I do agree that if the Z9 can OC to 60k sols, that would be awesome but i would assume it would draw 1495W (based on the Z9 Mini's OC power draw) as well.

My opinion is that bitmain just brought it out to kick innosilicon's A9 out of the market and it kinda did with the price point. I would expect the A9 to lower its price soon or it's history.
 
If Im not up to a full Z9 investment, whats the next best thing to blow the coupons on?

I sold mine for $99 each. Had four. That was a nice unexpected $400. Beware of scammers! Make sure you ship to a legit e-mail address actually associated with a legit buyer. Ebay won't cover you for a coupon if they try to screw you. All four of my coupons were purchased for $120 a piece from a guy in Georgia. So $480. I get this e-mail immediately after saying please ship to my "bitmain e-mail address that has a full username associated that looks nothing like the user name of the guy who bought from me on ebay. So, suspecting a scam, I contacted the person who paid paypal through his paypal listed cell phone number (not the ebay phone number) and asked if that was legit? He said no, he didn't buy them and his accounts were hijacked, told me not to send the coupons and he would contact ebay/paypal to open a case. So I didn't send the coupons, and ebay and paypal are sorting that out.

Here's the scammer's bitmain account. (not the legit ebayer's e-mail) Feel free to populate [email protected] into every single spam e-mail or marketing campaign signup you can find.

I then relisted for $99 each with a $.50 cent subtitle cost that said the buyer's paypal account e-mail address had to match the bitmain e-mail account and someone bought them within a day and it worked out fine as the e-mail addresses matched with my next buyer. So not a bad way in the end. I didn't feel like rolling the dice on more Z9 mini's personally. I might regret it, if they are profitable for a long time, (I suspect they may be) but I'm being more risk adverse in this potentially waning crypto market.

Do you guys know what BTC/GH/Day means on MPH? It would assumedly mean profitability - but that can't be true because I've been mining ZenCash the last 3 days or so and it's certainly not half of what zclassic is. I'm making nearly the same and whattoomine indicates zclassic and zencash are within $1 a day of each other over the last three days.

It's to try to normalize various algos so they can rank by profitability and is point in time.
 
This past Sunday I did a bit of efficiency testing with my Z9 minis. I usually use 240v, In fact this whole time I've been running my two Z9 minis off a single Raidmax Vampire 1000 watt gold PSU at 240 volt. But, I don't have a meter that reads accurately enough to test at 240 volt, so I tested at 120 volt. with a couple of Raidmax 1000 watt PSUs and a couple of EVGA G3 850 watt PSUs. I have two Z9 minis. Here's what I tested:

A) Raidmax 1000 watt Vampire (Gold Rated) - One PSU powering two Z9 Minis.
B) (2) Raidmax 1000 watt Vampires (Gold Rated) - One Z9 mini per power supply.
C) (2) EVGA G3 850 watt (Gold Rated) - One Z9 mini per power supply.

None of the power supplies are over 1 year old. All Gold rated. The load will be constant and identical for each test. In each test I let the units run at least one hour to get up to temperature and at the time I took the pictures/reading - the reading was static (within about +-1 watt). The ASICS were mining Equihash on MPH (zclassic) - which would be the same computational load, thus power draw. Overclock settings were identical. These tests were all done the same day in my 72* air conditioned basement - so heat should not be a factor.

I'll tell you I was dead wrong on my guess before I tested.

C is most efficient by nearly 50 watts

A) Raidmax 1000 watt Vampire (Gold Rated) - One PSU powering two Z9 Minis. = 870 watts
I figured this single power supply would be the most efficient, because I reasoned that you'd lose more electricity in running two power supplies than you'd gain in an efficiency curve mapping.

I did not try one 850 watt EVGA to the two miners because the single Raidmax 1000 watt read ~870 watts with the two units and I didn't want to potentially exceed the EVGA's power supply max threshold for > one hour to complete the apples to apples test.

ANYWAY, yeah, I may have been burning an extra 65 watts a day or so with the single PSU config I was running over the more efficient double EVGA PSU setup. I guess there most really be something to the efficiency curves they talk about. I figured that would be offset by powering two different PSUs - nope.

i'm powering mine with the APW3++ PSU from Bitmain and am getting a solid 3.4-3.5 amps whether i plug one or two Z9 Minis per PSU. this means my miners are pulling 408-420 per. my environment is a little warmer so fans are always in the 4k range otherwise i believe i'd be right where you are. i gotta say, these little Z9 Minis are quite efficient and also quieter too. i can sit about 10 feet away and my meter only registers about 60db!
 
I've been running a CT probe on one of my Z9's (they are all running at 750 MHz) pretty much since I got it. I have this particular Z9 being powered by a HP 1200W Platinum Server PSU powered from 240V. My stats are as follows since midnight:

My voltage averages about 244 V. (below graph shows just one 120V leg)

So the Z9 just sips power compared to the rest of my miners, lol: (Miner CT Probe is the Z9 in the below image)

Looking at the entire household, I got this:

Yeah, my power bill sucks. But at least 50% or so is offset from the Solar power I generate (not accounted for in any of the above graphs).
 
There is generally a "peak efficiency" rating available for PSU's. >80% capacity does usually see a drop in actual efficiency. I don't know Raidmax quality since I've never bought one but EVGA has impressed me by having a great blend of price and quality on their higher end lines.
 
It is with some sadness I ship off my two Z9 Mini's to their new owner today. A fellow bought them on Craigslist for $700 each. They've done well, with not one issue over the time I've had them since gen 1 arrival day. They paid for themselves + about 50%, and selling them for $1400 USD is icing on the cake. It's probably a gamble if they are worth running into the ground to the point of unprofitability or not, but I'm not one to take unnecessary risks. At the time I'm selling them they are making just under $12 a day gross for the pair.

I still have my 5 mini's cranking away. They are averaging about $6 each for a total of just under $30/day. Power cost with solar offset is about $0.50 each per day. So I'll keep them running for now.

GPU miners are still online and are back on mining Ravencoin these days. 1080Ti's are back up to around $1.75/day now. Keep going baby!

Getting ready to move some rigs back into the house for heat this winter.
