Improvements to the "Upcoming" tab on Steam

Over on the Steam blog they are talking about some improvements they've made on the Upcoming tab that some may or may not like. According to the blog the old tab just listed everything in a somewhat chronological order of upcoming titles and they felt that wasn't doing its job. Now the Upcoming tab is going to have a more tailored listing called Popular Upcoming. It's going to take pre-release interest in the game by using wishlists, past titles from the publisher/developer and pre-purchase info. Sounds reasonable to me and it's available right now. Go check it out and let me know how you like the change. Thanks cageymaru.

n the past, the Steam homepage included an Upcoming tab that showed customers a complete list of everything that was coming to Steam. This was a pretty simple feature -- it was literally just a chronological list of upcoming titles. It didn't do anything to build a list of games suited to anyone's interests and just wasn't doing its job.

Give me an Outlook-like calendar view and I'd be happy. I'm sick of these algorithms trying to figure out what I want to see, along with the marketing BS that tries to sell me stuff. I'm frankly getting tired of having to keep track of game releases, myself, when it should be so easy for a platform like Steam to do.

This is actually welcome for me. That tab is always filled with crap. Like real crap. 80% of the games I play are indies these days, but the stuff that shows up in Upcoming is like garbage mobile game material. I want to see highly anticipated AAA, and upcoming HIGH QUALITY indie games. I'm not sure an algorithm can properly decide which is which though. Maybe they could get a human to do it. :p

I do all my gaming in Steam, and I didn't even realize there was an "Upcoming Tab" :p

I usually search for the precise title I am interested in buying using the search bar. Otherwise I stay in the library. I don't really use anything else in Steam.

I just peek through the curated lists for a bit and see what other people have found. It's fun to compare high quality indie games to the trash which wins awards in the public eye (game jams and GDC). It's funny how "indie" has become such a powerful aspect of marketing, but is consistently squandered.

There is an upcoming tab? These days I forgot there is even a store on steam I use it so rarely.

I'm always on the lookout for the Hyper Light Drifters, Sundereds, Dead Cellses, Axiom Verges, etc. of the world. There are definitely ways to get to those, and follow bread-crumbs to the good ones like them. The Upcoming Tab just wasn't one of those ways. :D

If I had the time, I'd see if I could curate a collection of this sort of thing. I made a small, half-hearted attempt over in the PC Gaming forum on [H] a while back. "2D Game Database" thread. However, I haven't kept it up in months. I actually have played a good chunk of games that should be added to it at this point.

There are too many games out there for me to even care you can only play one game at time.
Not saying the stuff out there is bad it's really good but takes hours on end to complete.

So its going to be a list of games that publishers are paying to be placed higher up on the list rendering it 100% useless. Indie games wont stand a chance.

Maybe only one at that given moment. However, I juggle several games constantly. I bounce back and forth between several games on several systems, and start new ones as I complete them.

...the Hyper Light Drifters, Sundereds, Dead Cellses, Axiom Verges, etc. of the world...
Of those I've only played Axiom Verge, and it's excellent. Public-accessible lists of personal favourites is good enough for me. Thanks! I'll write one up sometime soon.
