Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

I told them (along with 90+% of the backers) to do it slow, and am paying the penalty / reaping the benefits.

90% of the fanatics didn't say to do it slow. They believed in every deadlines that was given, and mocked those who questioned the dates.

I member. The same shit was going down. The true believers making us feel awkward for suggesting that the 2014 deadline was unrealistic.. Now we're suggesting that the game is far behind even the most pessimistic development schedule imaginable. And they still act as if we're the ones talking crazy.

Wow, I never thought we'd get to this point.
Went from Crusader star port, jumped in my Hornet, flew out into space, checked out the space station from afar during an EVA, warped to another moon, entered the atmosphere, landed on the surface, explored the surface on foot, departed the moon, warped to a comm array, did an EVA inside the satellite and interfaced with the computer terminal. Then got a warning over com channel to stop snooping around and to leave the area and got attacked by a pirate as I was beginning to warp out.
Just an epic experience and I am glad I stuck with backing the development! The possibilities seem endless with this quantum leap in universe seamless-ness.

Nah, you must be mistaken, people keep telling me this game is vaporware. Maybe you were just rearranging jpegs on Meeho's HDD?

I used to be quite doubtful but it does look like the bones are there. That is the most important part. I'd rather have a seriously delayed product that is awesome in the end than no product at all. Sure the game has years left of development, but I am totally hooked now that I've seen the possibilities first hand.

Creating a HOSAS+Pedals setup as we speak. Two RealSimulator FSSB R3's (force sensing) just came in, two RealSimulator F-16 grips that will release in a few months and the new Thrustmaster TPR rudder system.

I know reading is hard. I said that YOU will never be satisfied.
Uh, I can only imagine, since you only confirm my original point. Because I'd be satisfied if they gave me what I described there:

an actual complete game that has a clear starting point, proper exposition, proper tutorials, and guidance for new players
Yes it's great that I can take off from a space station and then aimlessly jump around between some regions of space. And if I have the patience of a sloth, then land on a planet. I'd be happy about that if it was still the year 2013.

This is pretty damn cool, more mining game mechanics are being discovered.

Previously it was discovered that some huge rocks require several Prospectors to breakup.

Well now these huge chunks can be transported offworld and still be extracted by yours or other Prospectors.

These are single seat fighter sized rock deposits and the broken up extractable "purple" chunks are still about the size of a Cyclone.

Someone had the idea to transport those chunks in the cargohold of a Constellation to see if they could sell them, "as is", without extracting. No luck. But then they took them to Delamar and shoved them out of the ship just outside Levski's armistice zone and brought a Prospector. The rocks were able to be extracted and sold the ore at the outpost.

So this pretty much eliminates one of the limitations of the Prospector, it's relatively small cargo capacity, as you can just have friends with a larger ships go behind you collecting large rock chunks saving you both quantum fuel and travel time. After the hulls of their ships are full you can then just meet up at another location closer to one of the major ports and extract the ore there. So what would've taken several round trips is reduced to just 1 if done efficiently and the cost and profit is spread among everyone.

Pics please when you get it all put together Vega. I'd love to see it.

Exploring mining mechanics and its bugs a bit further.

You can clip and grab fractured mineral deposits with the hull of the 600i (and other ships) so why not use them as cargo barges assisting in mining. The fractured mineral deposits are true persistent objects and can be extracted by any other Prospector anywhere in the game. So you can take a full load of rocks near a major port and extract them at your leizure saving fuel and travel time.

I'm not sure how long do these rocks actually last before they despawn but we had setup an asteroid field near Olisar that was still there more than 4 hours later.

Sunk cost fallacy.

The space mining stuff kinda amuses me. The graphics look pretty and all but well, welcome to EVE or Space Engineers or Empyrion or several other space survival/construction games I can't remember off the top of my head.

Lol, seemed to move that hefty of a ship a bit more than natural but funny to see it go that far lol.

Hey guys and gals...Have kind of back burnered SC for a while....I would just go into stasis until it was released but because life...In any case I have a humble little F7C M Super Hornet because I originally wanted a kind of future space F-22/F-35 type thingy to be a cool fighter jock in, like the original WC games. My question is, is it... or is it now, with all the new ships, more like an aging P-51, a once AAA now a museum piece or airshow relic at best...or is it more like a f-17, outdated but still ok? An F-15 still kick ass but last gen, or is it still my fighter supreme like I thought it was a few years ago? Any suggestions or thoughts on the subject?

As always, thanks!

It's not outdated, I don't think it is in its right role as most ships are not yet because they are heavily tweaking ship balance and stuff. Right now ships are a little messy with power plant adjustments, weapon over clocking and the ever popular semi auto stuff in with 3.2.1. But I love my Super Hornet still and it fits my play style just fine. There have been a few patches where it felt more like a bee but again, lots of tweaks and adjustments and as new systems are put in with each major patch and further tweaked in the sub patches most things change.

Thanx Rip

Yeah the Super Hornet should still be one of the top performing dogfighters in the game. Like Ripskin said there are going to be some pretty significant balance changes. The main that went out with 3.2 is that cannon type weapons are now semi-automatic.

Here's a dev response for what's coming ahead:
The current proposed plan for 3.3:

  • Some cannons will stay as semi-auto, will be labelled clearly as such in their names/descriptions and their RoF will be significant decreased, whilst their damage buffed to compensate.
  • A majority of cannons will be "rebranded" as autocannons and returned to fully automatic behaviour. Their RoF will also be significantly decreased and have their damage adjusted in line.
  • A review of all the weapons DPS will be done, to catch any outliers (Hello Glaive/Scythe owners) which were missed in earlier passes.
  • Overheating will have another pass to ensure everything is working as expected in regards to the above changes, overheating will be the primary limiter on cannon DPS versus fire rate.
  • All ships default loadouts will be having a complete ground up review as to whether what they come with is the most appropriate for their intended role.
In regards to the last point, this is a big task and one that is sure to upset some owners but its something we've been wanting to do for a long time. Back in the old days there were a very limited selection of weapons ships could be given when released and we've never gone back and revisted them until recently with the power changes. We now probably have 4-5x the variety of weapons ingame than 2014 and as such not everything needs to come with Behring Cannons or Klaus and Werner Laser Repeaters.

Finally, for you Vanguard owners out there, I chased up the status of the alternate weapon Nose options and had meetings with the relevant stakeholders this week to make sure they are scheduled in advance of the variants. I can't promise an exact patch date but I'd hope it will be in the next couple to allow you to have 4+ weapon type choices on the nose mounts.

3.2.1 was released a couple days ago

On another note, in my travels I discovered me a pair of juicy 7-11% agricium nuggets which yield anywhere from 5-9k credits per rock. Hit me up in game and I'll show you how to get to them. The best part is that they keep respawning at the same location in the middle of nowhere. (I'm being vague about the location on purpose).

I think one important difference here is that unlike EVE it is not a "press a button spreadsheet simulator" and unlike of the construction titles there is unparalleled depth backing it. For instance, the mining UI itself (and co-op mining) is impressive, as well as the "mini-game" of mining in great depth. Furthermore, there are varying different levels of mining that are more than just scale or color of ore - there's a big difference between an Orion which is more or less a massive asteroid cracker with a large crew with multifaceted jobs, a personal/small ship like a Prospector, and individuals mining (by themselves or in a group) in their space suits. Lastly is how it fits into the rest of the game environment. Mining isn't just about making a number on your UI go up, it has physical presence and rocks will have to be dumped into cargo containers, which will fill cargo holds or pods etc...and then from there can be shipped, traded, sold, refined, repackaged, and much more, blending into all of the other systems under construction in major and minor ways.

Mining is just another part of a very large puzzle being built and its great to see it evolve piece by piece

First look at the Origin 300 series rework, it should be out with 3.4 by the end of the year.

It's getting a nice bump in cargo capacity to 8SCU up from 2. The cargo elevator tucks nicely flush under the raised floor interior.

Interior is definitely a step up from the current one.

I was hoping that is what they would do with the cargo being something that is lowered down. I don't like the larger cockpit area. I hope they drop the front of the ship down a bit to give us a slightly better view but the 300 is not too bad view wise unlike the 85x.

The middle is the only part that looks a bit off, too fat off the big face. I liked the sleek front building to the larger back giving a nice mix between utility and mobility.

Semi Auto needs to die :( Just build time delay into the triggers. Weapons can still fire at the same slow rate with higher output but if I'm flying right at someone I can focus on that instead of constantly clicking.

The lack of dead zone in the center of the hud being removed is horrible :( They put it back in 3.2 and I was really happy now its out again and my ship is all over the place. Makes going into mobi glass or free look dangerous since the ship is likely to drift.

Mining is better, but I really hope they get the filtration system doing something soon. Way too much wasted dirt. It would be faster to get out and hit the rocks with a hammer once broken up so you can extract higher yield. The sifter was never going to do as good of a job as the bigger ships but blah. I want to go prospect not pick the one rock I get to take home lol. At least in 3.2.1 I could get 1.4 rocks. The micro studders make mining the good stuff hard though as the power levels jump all over lol. Found some gold once at 9% and was really happy, till it hung right as I needed to dial back the power and it blew up in my face lol.

Someone asked that exact question and was answered directly by Todd Pappy on the most recent Calling all Devs.

Short answer: not as soon as you'd hope. I dropped hints earlier in the thread and can confirm now since its public info, asteroid mining is coming with 3.3 first (think Delamar's huge asteroid clusters, the Yela asteroid belt, etc) then after that depending on how much R&D is needed they will work on the more intricate details of the mining mechanic. Right now the focus is more to get a solid base of mining, salvaging, repairing, refueling and they'll get incremental tweaks/refinements with every quarterly release.

Nice! I'm finally interested in ships again (having a 315 myself). Looks like I now have a version target of 3.4 to jump back in and take a look at what's new.

I have no problem waiting, just so long as it actually happens.

Free fly starting now until the 27th, use code: GETINTOTHEVERSE

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/promotions/Gamescom-Free-Fly

Ships included are: Dragonfly (hoverbike), Avenger Titan (light cargo/combat), Cutlas Black(cargo/utility/combat), Prospector(mining).

Note: Mining, for 3.2, is only possible on the surface of Daymar, Yela and Cellin. That means no mining on the Yela asteroid belt, nor Delamar. Asteroid mining will be added in 3.3

Hmm, I would not mind trying the Cutlass, been interested in the Medical one for a while but 3.2 is .--. --- --- .--. so I'm sitting out till 3.3 :D
(3.2 is poop for me, your mileage may vary to anyone curious about trying it out performance, flight and weapon changes are terrible for me this time around)

Most endless, surpassed only by the development time's endlessness.

And even that is eclipsed by the endless butthurt of salty people who aren't even fans but still waste their time following a game they'll never buy. Sad...

I got butthurt when I got pounded in the ass for the Nth time while being an original backer of this shitshow. Now I'm just amused. I still keep my SC card on the shelf to remind me just how retarded I could be.

I can't believe the trolls hate the game so much, yet they're even willing to lie about backing the game just so they can keep trolling it. It's getting ridiculous.
