Pass the Visine Please

That 'pool smell' that we're all too familiar with comes from that chemical that is made from the reaction between urine and chlorine. Chlorine itself is odorless.

Basically every pool everywhere has been peed in.

Edit: Doh, it says this in the article. I still like posting without reading. Makes me feel more smarter.

That makes it that much better like than it already is.....don't it?

Lol

"Chlorine gas can be recognized by its pungent, irritating odor, which is like the odor of bleach. The strong smell may provide adequate warning to people that they are exposed."

Anyone who's ever mixed up a batch to shock a pool could tell you it isn't odorless.

Yep, if you mix it into a bucket or small container you are smelling the chlorine gas in high concentration. Put it in the pool, which dilutes to a much lower concentration (typically 2-20 ppm depending on what you are doing). The free chlorine in the water is odorless, but the byproduct of breaking down organics gives the smell and irritation. So when you walk by a pool and get a strong whiff, it means stuff is being broken down in the water. Add more chlorine until you are not fighting organics, and after that point there is no strong odor or irritation to swimmers.

It's a balance. Basically a clean pool that is hardly used will never have these noticeable issues. A highly used pool always has organics and is always fighting something. Public pools get worked on at night when no one is using them.

Idk about that the bottle of chlorine I pour in my pool smells pretty Effin strong like chlorine, does that mean I'm buying premixed chlorine piss?

OMG! I needed this laugh so bad today! Thank you Kyle for posting the article and the rest of you for sharing both your wit and wiz-dom!o_O

...Hot tubs always smell more like Chlorine than the pool.
I have... bathed in urine...
Has to do with the temperature of the water. Also you don't really use chlorine in hot tubs, it should be bromine which can last longer at the high temps.

Does it feel good to pee in a pool?

Is it some wonderful sensation that I been missing out on?

Will I get a warm fuzzy feeling watching the young college girls basting in the pool with my urine?

Yes, and even more so when they open their mouth under water.
