S7 Edge problems

I got an S7 edge from a coworker to tinker with. He told me that it was stuck in a boot loop and couldn't get it to stop. He told me it was in his truck, ended up getting hot and the phone gave him a warning about shutting down apps etc to cool it down. He let it cool down, then that is when the problems started.

I took it home with me and tried to charge the phone. It started charging, boot-looped through the Samsung logo, than the screen went off. After that it stopped charging. I tried again today and it started to charge again. Once I let it charge for about 30 minutes tried to boot into safe mode but it didn't help. I then tried to factory reset it. Shortly into the process the screen went black and would not power on or charge again. I had to leave for work and just left it.

Is the phone completely shot? It is not a big deal if it is, just curious if maybe something can be done. He already bought a new phone and this one is just to do as I please with.
 
It appears to be. Maybe try recovery flash via oden? But if you can even get any life out of the screen just by power on it does not look good.
 
Sounds like heat killed the battery and it will no longer hold a charge or at least enough to power phone for long. Heat, next to water, is detrimental to lithium-ion batteries, and I bet him leaving it in his truck to bake in direct sunlight was a somewhat routine thing for him to do.

I bet if you replace the battery, it would be as good as new. Unfortunately, that's not too easy to do on any Samsung phone in the past few years because of the glass housing, but it's definitely doable if you have the right tools and a careful hand.

It will show the Samsung Logo like its loading and sometimes the verizon. After that it seems the phone might have shut off or the screen just went black. I am going to have to look up what oden is and does.

I looked up tutorials and the big thing is using a heat gun to work the back glass off by using playing cards and breaking the glue apart. The rest for the battery didn't seem to bad. I have thought about maybe doing it.

I currently have this phone. Here is how they stack up, mine just has 128GB ROM and 6GB RAM

I don't plan on changing it out as there are to many benefits to my phone that the S7 won't have. Mainly my phone doesn't have bloatware from Samsung and Verizon stuck on the phone with no way of getting rid of it. Unless they have a way to root the S7 edge and get around the locked bootloader.
