Calcalist has reviewed some internal Apple communications and it appears that Intel is out of iPhones beginning with the 2020 models. Also, the Intel team working on the next-gen modems have been redirected to other efforts within the company. Further, Intel and Apple aren't responding to Calcalist's calls for comment so all we really have to go on are the documents that Calcalist claims to have seen. Personally, I believe this is true and it's probably an effort by Apple to in-source as much work as they can. I guess we'll find out in 2020 what kind of modem they're going to use. Anyway, Intel just keeps getting punched over and over. I wonder how long they're going to take the punches before they punch back?

Apple is facing “a massive effort” to launch 5G in their mobile products, Intel executives posited in communications. They further speculated Apple’s decision not to use Intel’s modem component was a result of “many factors.”

Makes one see the Apple/Qualcomm lawsuit in a new light. Assuming they knew (most likely) that they would have an issue with 5G modems they might have used the lawsuit to pressure Qualcomm to reduce the licensing cost. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a statement in a few months that the lawsuit has been resolved out of court.

Seems perfectly plausible. Read many stories in the last 18 months about Apple trying to develop more in house and get away from Intel.

I've noticed this as well. Seems like they don't want to rely on anyone else. Whether that ends up being good for them or not, I guess we'll find out.
