how are the 1080ti FE card? ($649 in stock)

I have a fractal designs node 304 with a MSI 970 in it.
Strictly 2 slot will fit. I know MSI 1080ti fans stick out to 2.25 or 2.5 slot so will hit the edge of the case.

Blowers are fantastic if you don’t plan on OCing much or at all. Also set a custom fan curve right off the bat.

Why are third party cards more expensive?

Is it because of the extra cooling ?

I was in the market a couple months ago for a 1080ti.. ended up buying an HK USP .45acp instead. much better ROI. heh
Is there a thread for people to post what they bought INSTEAD of new video cards? :p

I am running on 2x GTX 980, display is 1440p 144Hz, so with okay SLI support I have enough horsepower... but VRAM (4GB) has been problematic.

Logical upgrades for me are GTX 1080Ti ($1000 -> $1300CAD) or Vega 64 ($970 -> $1200CAD), but like many I refuse to spend that much on "old tech", especially this late in the game. So, I bought:

LG C7 55in

Installed the Camaro5 ZL1 supercharger lid into my CTS-V2

Did up my car's exhaust with Borla S-Type mufflers, Borla mid-x-pipes (to remove the "crimp") and also had the shop cut off the (unmonitored) secondary cats

Then went for a drive

Yes, total spend was like $5k CAD, but I also felt like I got much better value for my money

Dude, LOVE that car! Any more details? Have you tuned and dyno'd it yet? Sorry to derail this thread, but come on! :)

Man I am considering going SLI with my current 980, but I feel like VRAM is gonna be the biggest issue. Ever try playing at 4k with 980 sli?

I love every single thing about this post. I too did the same :ROFLMAO:

I bought a Mazdaspeed Miata track car, bought up interior and exterior bits for my Supra (it's waiting for some Ohlins before it undergoes a winter motor build), 55 inch Samsung curved TV to replace what this forum recommended years ago; a LG LN5300 42 inch IPS TV for my desktops main, and a T-Shirt.

I can only imagine how that car is as a daily! I loved driving my buddies LS3 swapped RX7, having a CTS-V without worrying about cops as much and pulling shenanigans on unsuspecting people must be a riot (y)

I run sli gtx 970 cards and haven't had an issue with VRAM so long as I don't enable msaa on newer games.

Also with the rise of popularity of ITX builds, ACX-style 3rd party coolers aren't really an option as their cooler ability is far inferior in a smaller case.

Sorry for derail... I'll try to be brief ;)

Thanks! I came from 5x BMW 3-series, but fell in love with the idea of the CTS-V2 of family sedan + sports car engine and transmission, especially since BMW seems to have gone away from that recently. I am also a BBC Top Gear fan and the Bonneville Road Trip helped even more. Also, I am in Vancouver Canada and BMWs are dime-and-dozen here. The V, on the other hand, is special.

Especially if it is 1/1200 of the 6MT Sedans  Now running on Raceseng Ashiko Texture Graphite. Since it is so rare, I feel bound to keep it forever now....

Finally the last time I had to get tires, I bought 2x factory rear Satin Graphite wheels and mounted them in front. So my car is riding on 9.5x19 285/35R19 "square setup". The fitment in front requires 11mm spacers, so I matched them with 15mm wheel adapters for the rear (all hub-centric + wheel-centric, made-to-order by Motorsport-Tech of Las Vegas NV). "Functional-stancing" :D Here is a recent picture taken on my trip with my brother-in-law's new-to-him gen-1 Audi R8 V10 (otherwise my sister's kid had nowhere to sit :ROFLMAO: ):

My "thing" is to tackle our Destination Highways, and come back with pics and vids. So, the BMWs were perfect because as Sedans they were practical as daily drivers. However, once you get out of town you can have a lot of fun carving the canyons... more capable than what my driving skill can handle anyways... plus with enough power to (safely) get around people:

The V2 was benchmarked against the V10 BMW E60 M5 to beat it in every measure, and I definitely felt that nothing was lost when I changed over. Maintenance and mods are cheaper, even.

Back on topic! For the games I play, 4GB VRAM is definitely getting short in 1440p. I mostly play EA Frostbite games, and SLI works fine, and so far they are pretty light on texture... so BF1 and Dragon Age: Inquisition are okay. Rainbow Six: Siege I cannot use the high quality texture pack, but everything else can be maxed. Finally Ghost Recon: Wildlands I have to drop some settings... for this one, I am hoping to re-play it once I get my new 8GB+ video card, but as you can see that has not happened so it is shelf-ed for now :(

read the measurement specs for the fractal designs node 304, then you will have your answer :barefoot:

You already know the answer (since you knew to ask it) so IMHO it seems redundant to answer it ...

Yup when the video card prices were at a stunningly high level, I opted to get some upgrades on my car (2010 Jetta). Lowering springs, set of new wheels, new slotted disc brakes. And a slamming new Kenwood system, its freaking loud as hell, 2 amps, 12" sub, all new door speakers, and sound deadening.

But I've been dying because I really need to build a new PC gaming machine. Only a laptop right now doesn't cut it. But since the video card prices are back to nearly normal (still a bit high). I'm building a new Ryzen 2700x and a MSI Duke 1080ti. I can't wait to start building it.

Yeah I heard they can be louder, but better for small cases like mine. Had not looked into the FEs much before the prices skyrocketed.

Might of been a 4th of July special. They been constantly in stock at $699.
Must have been, and was tempted, but with new cards on the way, would rather spend on those or at the least, maybe a cheaper 1080ti.

I was considering it as will be in Florida (from Canada) in a few weeks and could save on shipping and tax at families place down there. Didnt pull the trigger through.

There totally should be, need something new to gawk over while I continue to wait. These cars in this thread are tiding me over nicely :D

My list is pretty short so far, got a "new" (discontinued) set of SSR Comps with Toyo R1R's (LOVE THESE TIRES) for my Prelude, and a new heart for my gaming system, ASUS ROG Code IX mobo, 7700k and 2x8GB Corsair Dominator Platinums @ 3200MHz.

Also, it's nice to get out of the golf course more then usual too :)

Were they $649 yesterday? Showing as $699 right now.
They were always $699 USD, unless I missed a sale.

Spend the one-time $15 fee for off-topic discussion and come into the forum we have for cars. It's under Your Account -> Account Upgrades. We have a "What did you do to your car/truck today?" thread in there for things like this.

But I am putting coilovers on the Mustang if no direct replacement for my Titan X comes out by October. Will probably make the call sooner than that (end of next month, maybe). Did ported intake manifolds, throttle body, and dyno tuning when the Skylake-X release turned out to be disappointing.

Two GTX 980's here and 4k in SLI with this setup is hit or miss big time. Some recent examples. Far Cry primal is perfect. Far Cry 5 is spotty, had to lower a lot of settings. Fallout 4 is a bit much at 4k. Same with the newer Hitman games.

Edit; only been using 4k for a while but most newer games I find I have to compromise a lot on graphics settings to play at this res with these cards.
