Dear Agony Fans,

After many consultations and hard work full of trials and errors, we have two pieces of news for you.

Firstly, we have managed to include a lot of things that we originally wanted to provide in the patch in the final game. It has been accepted by PEGI and other rating companies. The censorship now affects only several seconds from two endings (out of seven) and some scenes that may be unlocked only after the end of the game. We will be able to show them to you in a video that we are planning to release soon.

None of the scenes you have seen in the trailers and other promotional materials have been censored at all, and the game will feature those on all platforms:

- Gore
- Brutal Sex Scenes
- Lesbian and Gay Sex Scenes
- Genital Physics
- Eye Gouging
- Heart Plucking
- Children Heads’ Exploding
- Setting Fire to Martyrs and Demons
- Intense Violence
- Strong Language
- Drugs

Secondly, due to legal issues, we are not going to be able to release the Adult Only patch. However, that content does not affect the game in any significant way because the deleted material that was supposed to be added in the latest version of the patch is from two endings (out of seven) and some scenes that may be unlocked only after the end of the game. We are going to publish a comparison video on May 30th, 2018 so you will not miss out anything.

Please bear in mind that leaving this content uncensored would result in the game being banned and us, Madmind Studio, being sued. That would simply lead to the studio being closed. Obviously, we don’t want this to happen and we hope that you understand it.

Agony is still the game we have planned all along and we are very proud of what we have achieved.

Enjoy pursuing the Red Goddess in Hell!

I'm now much less interested after hearing that the studio dropped the optional uncensored patch...I don't see what legal issues that would cause as it's not the version of the game that's being shipped and it's an optional download...them stating that the censored footage is only a few seconds in total sounds like BS...sounds like them trying to save face and hyping up the game (which is understandable)

Not sure about this one. I do like horror type games but the survival aspect I'm not always too keen on. I couldn't get into Alien Isolation because of that. Sneaking around was fun for a while but it got old pretty quick. I guess it's my lack of attention or something but I need a little action to keep me interested.

Ill definitely check out some reviews and game play videos tho. It does look pretty promising.

Yeah, I enjoy artists' interpretations of twisted realms, but censorship normally neuters anything that comes into mainstream-media, it's off-puting. Right now I'm wondering what these clips are that had to be censored without needing to change anything else; it has to be a smokescreen unless they used icons in those scenes.

Game releases at 17:00 CEST according to Kickstarter, which is UTC +2. That is 11:00 EDT.

According to what I've heard they only needed to change the camera angles at certain parts to avoid showing the detail of female genitalia. Out of all the things in this game, god forbid we get exposed to female sex organs. And of course, penises are A-okay. Whatever it was, we'll see what it was in the video they're releasing tomorrow.

Yeah I don't know what to think of this game. It gets played for gory shock value but it doesn't enforce it like a good dungeon would. Let alone a place I want to visit.

Yeah I've watched a couple of streams now....I'm not really sure what to think. I haven't really seen anything that makes me think it's worth paying for.

It just depends on the person....

If you're like me and you've read Inferno, Paradise Lost, Screwtape Letters, and Hellbound Heart many, many times etc.

Then, this is really fucking cool!! lol

Even if it ends up being a walking simulator with a few jump scares, I don't care.

I'm in this one for the aesthetic. Period.

Seen this review on Steam giving it a thumbs down gamma issues always kinda irk me.

I'm really disappointed after finally playing agony:

Cons:
- The lighting is too dark, I had to crank the gamma up to even walk about the levels
- Controls are clunky, and your character moves wayyy to slow
- Character can sprint for about 2 seconds
- The people are shiny and unrealistic due to poor specular maps on models
- UI feels like 1990s games
- Did I mention the generally glitchy movement?
- Definitely censored

Pros:
- Excellent level design, feels like you're truly in hell
- Overall graphics are excellent
- No performance issues on my GTX 1060
- Game is disturbing, as expected

And "definitely censored" is a huge con if you were one of the many people that are probably in it for the shock value and weird sexual demon stuff.

even with the trailers the game didn't look all that great to me from a pure gameplay perspective...it's all about shock value nudity and violence which is fine but not when it's the main selling point with no story or interesting gameplay mechanics...and then the developers blatantly lie about only having to censor 'a few seconds'...BS!

Man I really wanted this to be good. I need something new in the horror genre =(

Probably will still pick it up but I just don't know at this point...

Wait for the bargain bin or someone to mod it to make it even more graphic. I'm sure it'll happen. As it stands, the game itself is apparently garbage, the lighting its terrible, the controls are wonky, the character movement is bad, there's nothing this game has to offer besides genital physics.

Meh. I was interested but now not so much. I'll wait for a "Let's Play" video.

I'm still getting a feel for the graphics environment. Some areas have less contrast than others but that could be just haze in some parts. I spend more time staring at the main menu than in other games.

welp, its a weird game. not sure I understand it or know what I am doing. just ran a few minutes, as I am currently doing dark souls remastered. There appear to be a lot of secrets though. It may be interesting.

Removing all that is fine. It added nothing to the game other than shock value.

I didn't see a legal reason for any of it to have been removed. Some grotesque and excessive, yes; I mean 50 Shades and it's sequels made it to theaters (the writer had no knowledge of the kink community, consensual acts, and wrote a stalker/abusive relationship series, and the second movie is basically a porn flick), but for some reason butt physics are too much (who's played any of the DoA series?)? The children looked more like deformities than anything else. The rape/sex scenes were pretty poorly done though; if they were supposed to be graphic, it's only because they showed genitals touching... Even after the removal of all of that, it's not something you want little Jimmy to play...

All in all, tired of this kind of censorship. You don't want your children to play it? Pay attention to what they do and have access to, it's your job as a parent/guardian.

Eh, child killing has been mostly banned for quite some time in video games. The rape scene.... someone would probably raise a stink about it and get their game nuked from some platform. The "art" is just not worth the trouble. I'll agree though the butt physics is stupid, unless it allowed for more revealing views than intended.

wonder what this 4gb update is all about...
They turned the game into easy mode because people were complaining that it was too hard and confusing. They said they're going to bring back the original difficulty as Hard mode in a later patch.

Kind of amazing how fast they are putting out patches and the types of changes they include.

We are coming back to you with the freshly released patch. Thanks for bringing your awesome reports in such detailed manner. It helps us to direct our works at the most important issues. Check out the list of changes which are introduced in today's update:

- Fixed a significant number of collision problems with the floors
- Fixed collision problems that might force the player to get stuck in many places
- Reduced the number of enemies in Mind Maze, The Pit, Fractal Forest, and Mushroom Mind
- Added new Martyrs in key places so that the player doesn't need to backtrack too much - Some puzzles got removed so the progression should be more fluid
- Changed difficulty of a few puzzles that caused confusion
- Changed the way of obtaining the 3rd level of soul skill which also caused confusion
- Fixed a few streaming problems that could cause the player to get out of the play area
- Part of the 4th chapter environment got changed to make the progression easier and more fluid
- Changed enemy patrol routes in some places
- Added additional effects to "teleports" and some other events
- Fixed a few issues with secret chambers
- Fixed issues with golden statuette placement
- Fixed many issues with the fire damage
- Fixed some background animation glitches
- Fixed scripting issues that could force a player to get stuck
- Fixed a problem with exploding bodies that caused a big FPS loss
- Polished lighting.

We already started working on the next patch. It's going to include for instance a Hard mode which will bring the previous difficulty level back. Also, we work on further improvements regarding lighting.

I finally watched the video. LOL, man that was some f'd up shit. I'm thinking it's a buy for me, just not sure what price I'm willing to jump in at yet. Good grief, I might need some sort of therapy session after playing this hahaha.

I can tell you this at least, the first couple hours are heavily sedated in comparison.

I can't seem to re-enter the Desert of Light. I died there without getting a checkpoint so that puts be back in the previous map, the Chaos Temple. And that's all fine, I'm used to that in the game in general. Except I can no longer make the jump onto the ledge at the end area of Chaos Temple which launches you into the Desert of Light. Maybe I'm doing the jump wrong. In spirit mode the ledge is blocked so I can't even fly onto it. If anyone knows of another way back in or how to do this jump the right way.

Edit: Nevermind, I can just restart the whole level and it should fix it. Dang.

censored will be back

Hell(o)!

It is with a great pleasure that we want to inform you we have found a way to publish the unrated version of Agony!

Agony Unrated will be a separate title produced and published by Madmind Studio and without the involvement of any publishers. It features additional content and changes suggested by you – our community – as nothing is more valuable to us than you.

We are doing our best to offer Agony Unrated to as many people as possible. Our goal is for each person that already owns Agony on Steam to be able to buy Agony Unrated with the biggest discount possible on that platform – 99%or release it as a free DLC. We are currently talking with the Steam representatives to make sure it is doable.

Agony Unrated will be released about three months from now and it will include all the updates from the standard version of the game.

Agony Unrated also brings:
· Additional sounds in the game and the cutscenes.
· Additional erotic animations for characters in the backgrounds.
· High-resolution textures and models – without any censorship.
· All the scenes that have been removed from the standard version of Agony.
· Agony Mode unlocked from the beginning.
· Additional content for Agony Mode (Setting – The Forest, Boss Fight – Baphomet).
· Succubus Mode unlocked from the beginning.
· Additional animations for Succubus Mode.

Additionally, we would like to take this opportunity to apologize for all the technical problems that were present at the launch of Agony.

The whole team is working on patches and fixes for the game and we are planning to be releasing them until the most of you (if not everyone!) in our beloved community is satisfied with our game.

censored will be back
Nice to see they took my advice and bypassed the publisher .

I think that they will gain back some good will by giving it to early adopters for free or almost free. I know a lot of Kickstarter backers were extremely pissed by the censorship announcement at basically the last minute.

Based on all the "additional" content to be added it does seem like a lot more was cut from the game than what they stated. that being said I am still fine with the kickstarter results. This developer, unlike many others has always maintained an active communication channel and that goes a long ways towards generating good will.

Welp, does not look good for the company
The future of Agony

Hi Gamers,

We regret to inform you that our company is currently struggling with financial problems. Due to technical and legal reasons, Madmind must cancel the development of Agony Unrated. Part of the team will continue to support Agony on Steam and consoles by publishing new patches.

Regarding the Xbox One patch - we have managed to find and fix the bug that was present on the Xbox One X console. We have sent the improved update to our publisher, who will pass it to the Microsoft today or tomorrow and we are expecting it to be approved in the next couple of days.

PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC will get another patch this week. It will introduce many fixes and a highly refined lighting system.

Kind regards,
Madmind Studio

the cynic in me is thinking that they used the unrated aspect to get people hyped about the game when there was never any unrated build to begin with...first they stated they had some legal issues preventing them from releasing it...then they said that the unrated footage was only a few seconds...then after Steam changed their policy and allowed all content to be released the developers started talking about financial issues etc...sounds completely shady to me...I'm glad I never fell for the hype and bought this

My thoughts exactly.

I watched the censored footage...it was almost comical, really. Just seemed to attempt to be shocking for the sake of being so.

I don't really think it being there or not has much bearing on the game (if it's a decent game in the first place, that is...I haven't played it).
