So I bought a Oculus Rift setup off kyle for a great price. I had originally planned to buy an older rig for a cheaper iracing setup. Well the card in the machine I bought died two days after I bought a used setup on here, so I plopped down the cash on a 1070ti. Well that got things moving along nicely and I happened across kyle's ad for his oculus setup and I just said fuck it, why not. Got it in today and got everything setup...HOLY SHIT. VR is amazing. The last time I did anything remotely VR style was the old Dave and Buster's back in the early 90's. The demo's were pretty sweet and iracing is a totally different game now, it really is like being in the car.

I'll have to read though this forum for some of the nitty gritty stuff I should know. But man...VR is the shit.

I've really only thought of VR as a fad, or a niche tech, but the more stuff I read, like your post, the more I'm starting to understand that it probably is the future. I have no problem with that, other than the fact that my rig couldn't possibly run it. LOL

I am waiting for it go more mainstream and waiting to see how next gen is. I have tested it and no doubt it great but I want it to keep improving and getting better and anxious to see what next gen headsets bring. Upgrade cycle on VR right now is like old console cycle lol. Its expensive tech so not expecting it to come out year after year so just gotta be patient I guess.

I think we're past the fad stage with VR. There's simply too much development going on in the area now and I think there's enough of a market to sustain it. Of course a larger mainstream market is the question and I think that's years away if ever. But VR/AR isn't 3D TV.

Yeah, agreed. There is so much more to VR than just games as well. Virtual tours are pretty slick, Pr0n, educational stuff, Pr0n, etc.

Now OP, there are quite a few lists of awesome games to play. My favorite is still Arizona Sunshine!

Yea I played the robot recall last night for a few hours. Tried to break my window a few times....gotta get some more space.

Ahah reminds me of when my friend plays PSVR in my living room, always need to watch him as he gets "too much" into the game... Also have to put a rug under him so he somewhat knows where he stands at.
VR isn't a fad, PSVR made it really mainstream and I can't wait to see what the future PC version looks like (PS: PSVR racing sucks, too blurry even on PS4 pro)

I'll need to clear a room just for that purpose in a near future :)

For the love of god, do NOT buy Drunkn Bar Fight till you get more room. I had that fired up a few weeks ago, and holy shit, that was dangerous. My hand still hurts. But those Vive controllers are tough as nails. And I was testing wireless at the time. Wireless when it gets ironed out is going to be the shit. Yes that is my professional opinion.

Yea, the wires are a bit of a pain. Would be sweet as shit to get two or three headsets going in the same room doing something like bar fight or robo recall. Movement still feels a bit odd (in robo where you have to telaport to places) and the damn menu button is in a terrible place IMO.
You mean like live 1v1 deathmatch?

I'm waiting for next gen as well....

So I can buy a deeply discounted used current gen.

I am waiting for next gen as well, but hopefully for a bigger improvement than the Vive Pro brought.
I love my Rift and really hope the next version is a lot better. IMO, even if it means the minimum GPU requirement goes up to a 1080.

my left eye is screwed (MS potential related happened back in mid 2016, all kinds of stress, lack of proper night sleep for years now, financial, job hunt difficlties etc) I want to try VR, but am not sure how "effective" it would be when I am seeing on a "good day" maybe 60% of what I used to be able to clearly, far less when it's bright light, makes me walk like a gimp :(

30% out of left eye but is blurry as hell, right eye is 11 or 10 on the "chart" left eye is at best 2 or 4 (20/11-20/8 right eye, left used to be identical is now more like 20/160-20/100 (depending on brightness) zero focal detail or colour perception, stupid tissue paper like haze constantly left eye, right is clear..optic neuritis

Used to be almost beyond exceptional vision no joke, then all of a sudden right around 4 months after 34th birthday (june 2016, just after had to give up new dog just got in may, he got killed by a car in august same year) on top of all the other shit going on, left eye decided to say "fuck you, I am done with your ass" now my right eye is saying "what the hell man, leave me to deal with this guy, what the matter with you !" lol.

It is crazy difficult to judge perception and or deal with fast moving objects now because right eye is doing "the heavy lifting" so am not 100% sure if VR would work for me at all?

I so want to do racing game (gran tourismo as an example) or Ace Combat (flight games) but I have always always always wanted to do a full blown DnD type experience, one where you "walk over" to open the treasure chest, or have to be very careful walking around the blind corner just in case you take an arrow to the knee ^.^

I can 99.9% guarantee my system would hemorrhage (or my brain would) if I attempted to do any kind of VR setup on my current system.
Phenom II 955 clocked at 980+ levels 1.33-1.34v (windows 7 64 ultimate, screw Win 10 avoiding it like the plague untill have no other choice, such as a Ryzen build that am gathering the $ for..takes awhile to build up ~$3200 to make it happen yay canada pricing)

8gb ddr3 1866 (clocked 1640 range for the tighter timings 9,9,9,25,34 1T) NB is at 2673 HT 2056

MSI Radeon 7870 TF!!! OC 2gb, while still "pretty decent" for pretty much everything I throw at it, is beyond its expiry date as well, I know my cpu it bottlenecking it ~5% or so even more when oc it.

Crucial MX200 500gb (primary) crucial MX100 256 (secondary) just bought a Crucial MX500 1tb this past week as I had seen them on "sale" for ~$60 less than MSRP and Canada price (have seen the 1tb go as high as $350 CAD (+ tax and ship) got mine for $289.99 (plus tax free ship) roughly about $60 more than I paid for the MX200 500gb back in 2015 (ended 3 year warranty on June 8, 2018) which costed me $261.01..not bad, $60 more for an extra 450 odd gb usable space.

once I manage to do my "new build" for Ryzen based (likely will wait till 7nm ones are out) I will have the SSD to "make it happen" might end up getting an m.2 for the OS and this 1tb SSD for "everything else" that does not need the "blisterng speed"

Long story short, have always wanted to play VR type experience for different genres some more than others, but I honestly think a full blown DnD experience (like DDO a a rough example) would be truly kick ass, (brother says skyrim VR on PS4 is quite awesome, but has some quirky that non VR does not have)

Once they get some of the view ranges, FPS, power, wireless with long battery life, gloves that stay on hands vs things that can take out innocent bystanders or yourself LOL etc sorted out at a more "tolerable price" VR the sky is very much the limit of the possibilites they/this can make happen, just like 3d printing has opened a whole bunch of doors, VR likely will be all that and a box of cupcakes ^.^
