I think it's very unlikely that the Geforce cards will have NVlink or that Nvidia will have a viable multi-GPU gaming solution for this generation. Would be amazing, though.

being its just a prototype much could change in the final build outs.... nVidia will more than likely is looking or considering design changes by the looks of it, which makes sense for them.
 
Goddamn we called it! 12GB DDR6 (and not 16GB as initially reported).

Am I looking at that right that the die heatsink will overlap the VRAM? Those VRAM chips look dangerously close to the GPU...

Its 12 GB because of 384bit bus...doesnt mean there won't be a 256bit sku. And the claim was always either 8gb or 16gb. Now its clear the former is more likely.

I think it's just for testing purposes so they can get an idea of the full clock/thermal/power characteristics. Ostensibly they need to take it to the limits to see the sweet spot in voltage / clock speed

Look at the die size though. The chip is massive. It probably needs that much power. Active cooling on the board also. This thing is completely nuts. I don't think I have seen anything like it.

If consumer Volta supports some level of raytracing, then I can see why it is bigger due to the inclusion of tensor cores.

I think most of what you see, 3 8 pin, active cooling, huge board, are all because it for super early prototyping. I wouldn't expect the final product to be even close. The die area and power consumption could be huge because it's being prototyped on an older process and will be scaled down when ready.
 
wccftech really spins a lot of bullshit. This could be any prototype card they are testing. May be they are testing gddr6 vs HBM or whatver. I like what videocardz wrote about it. Fuckin WCCFTECH sees a picture and speculates the fuck out of it lol.

They see GDDR6, OMG new card. There isn't even a GPU On board its just pins! ROFL
 
Getting one of these is going to require a new build. Gonna need a case that can handle dual power supplies :ROFLMAO:
 
At this point everyone is so desperate for news on next gen Nvidia cards that I could go out and buy a breadboard, slap an Nvidia sticker on it, take a crap on it and post a picture of it to Reddit and have it make front page news on all the tech sites...

let me know your anticipated release date. looking to buy two, have paypal funds ready.

Well Vega does use two 8 pin power connectors, and yes, it does use way too much power. What are you saying? You think the GTX 1180 Ti is going to be a power hog? It could well be.

I will say that it’s interesting to see the full fat chip already. I wonder if nVidia is going to release the “big” Volta card right off the bat this time. I have a feeing they might, and then refresh their entire lineup in 2019 on the 7nm process.

Fair enough. AMD has not exactly been the model of efficiency which is probably where that came from. Remember Hawaii? Polaris was better. But over the past while the nVidia cards have been much more efficient than the nVidia cards.

My own prediction is that Big Volta is going to be extremely powerful but also very power hungry. Jensen himself said that they were limited by the laws of physics. That’s got to tell you something.

in one case, power consumption isn't justified in the other case the power consumption may be justified if the performance it's there. if not then it will be another wave of "way too much power", VEGA it's that scenario, way too much power underperforming competition. 290X was a 290W GPU with enough performance to back up it's power consumption even their heat issues that's not the case of VEGA. a 1180Ti with 3 8pin PCI-E connectors would certainly be a freaking performance beast.. unlike again VEGA, the sapphire Nitro VEGA64 does use 3 8pin PCI-E connectors and it's a total waste of power and piece of shit in comparison to the competition, performance isn't there to backup the power draw. of course i can't expect some brand biased guy to understand this.

anyway if anyone care about the prototype board, have to know that ALWAYS prototype PCB have A LOT of several PCI-E power connections, some can have 4, 5 or 6 and still that doesn't mean that will be present in the final product they serve to test power circuitry phases and optimize for final product.
