RX 580 8GB or 1060 6GB for rift?

Can't really find anything recent, in reviews comparing the two. I currently have the RX 580 8GB in my VR system and works pretty good for the most part no issues but I have the opportunity to swap for a 1060 6GB locally. Keep what I have or do the trade?

Since the 580 is basically a renamed 480, here's a review from [H] with a conclusion specifically dealing with VR.

"Both of these cards trade blows in desktop games. It is however worth mentioning that if you are planning on using these for VR gaming, the AMD RX 480 falls terribly behind the GTX 1060 in almost all the Virtual Reality games we have tested."

it wont change anything, AMD products are awfully inferior in VR versus Nvidia counterparts, and that apply even to VEGA which improves A LOT the VR performance and it's the only GPU to get close to Nvidia counterparts performance however still far of 1080 and 1080Ti... it has been known for ages, anyone looking for VR gaming should stay away of AMD GPUs.

I used a GTX 1060 3GB for about a year on the Rift. It finally couldn't keep up with Skyrim VR, like very jarring to use. Before that, it had stumbled on games like Lone Echo, but was still usable. Granted this was a 3GB version and I don't know if the lack of memory was the problem, so a 6GB would only be better. Considering I paid $180 for the 1060 3GB before the cost soaring and $700 for the 1070ti just several months ago, you could understand why I was hesitant to upgrade.

you are doing yourself a disservice not trying to get a 1070. it sucks that they are still too expensive. I'd love to upgrade to a 1070 myself.

I snatched up a 1060 6GB $150 from CL a few days ago that seems to be doing better. I do notice a bit less stuttering, motion sickness. Definitely feels like less frame drop, better experience so far.

I also just picked up a 1060 single fan 6gb card for $150.

They let me return my 1080 Ti and gave me a full refund of $1,067 dollars.

Might pick up the new Titan if it's $999

True about the Polaris cards, they are well behind their Nvidia counterparts for VR. But Vega cards give roughly the same experience. Apart from a brief hiccup with the first couple of Adrenalin drivers. They won't come close to the 1080Ti though.

To the OP, get the 1060 for VR.
