AMD doing a bit of a refresh, though from the looks of it, not as much of a bang as some would hope with nVidia releasing new cards after all at higher prices. Wonder how close to accurate this will end up to be:

Radeon RX 680 according to my sources will be powered by the Navi GPU architecture and feature 8GB of GDDR6 memory, with the performance of the GTX 1080 to GTX 1080 Ti or so. We should expect a price of somewhere in the $299-$399 range, and will battle the GTX 1080 Ti at higher resolution games because of its faster GDDR6 RAM.

AIB partners at Computex 2018 about the next-gen GeForce and they all told me that we have an August/September release window corrobrating my world exclusive during Computex that NVIDIA would announce the GTX 1180 on July 30.

We could see the Founders Edition released at first, just like the GTX 1070/1080 in 2016, with custom cards in the months following. But then we come down to the price.

Everything that I've heard about the next card is that it will be: faster than the GTX 1080 Ti more expensive than the GTX 1080 Ti might not be called GTX 1180 and might use different numbers think GTX 1185 or GTX 1190

AMD would be stupid to price it between $299 and $399 if it is able to battle against a card worth twice as much.

$299-399 for 1080/1080ti ish performance would sell like hotcakes! I just hope they have enough stock to keep up with demand if in fact all this ends up being true.

I get AMD pushing for good mid range card. I mean Navi should hit that on 7nm. But I think if AMD is really waiting until 2020-2021 for next high end. It will most likely be the next gen architecture they have on their roadmap after navi. Makes sense. Still almost 2 years left on it and I doubt it will just be Navi if its coming during that time frame.

Thats the only thing that makes sense. High end probably wont be based on Navi. Otherwise why the hell wait another year or two to push Navi high end? Not buying it. I think AMD is might just be going straight to their 2020 roadmap with next gen architecture.

it is the same the GTX 1070 was being 980ti/TitanX performance at launch.. that kind of performance jump is not uncommon at that price.

Look! More cards to be sold out and overpriced!

I think by next year it should be fine. Cards are already coming down and been available for a month or two now at msrp or below with sales. I think with ASICs coming out, big mining farms will likely do away with gaming cards. Atleast most of them.

Well, DRAM is still expensive, and 2 year old cards are selling at >launch prices. More efficient cards are going to be even more tempting for miners, as well.

They did the same with the 4870 and it worked out well for them.

They would be losing money doing that, when they could be making an extra couple of hundred dollars. And they need money and market share.

If I could get 1060 performance for around $150 and 1070 performance for $250, that would be amazing!

But, we put our dreams away....

why dreams? that's exactly the jump we saw on maxwell and pascal range of GPUs at those price points.

If, and this is a big IF, they manage another big leap like the one from maxwell to pascal, cool!!

Even if they do, let's pretend they list the new 1150 ti and 1160 at $150/250 MSRP....

"Out the door", a decent dual-fan card will likely inflate the price $50ish bucks. (not even accounting for pricing madness due to crypto)

So in all likelyhood, the 1150 ti could probably land on my doorstep for $215-225. An 1160 for around $310 or so etc.

Which is.... OK. But nothing to jump up and down about IMO.

Pascal was a big leap. I think even nvidia mentioned they were surprised by the targets they hit with pascal. It was pretty damn big jump with it.

True but big farms if they mine with ASICs they will prefer that well over graphics cards. We just have to wait and see. I think eventually we will start seeing it balance out.

I think you are going to be very disappointed. Every major GPU based coin that has had an ASIC announcement has HardForked so the ASIC is useless. Do you know what is not useless? GPUs.

I get the desire for cheaper cards, I really so. I have 7 VEGAs that make me money 24/7, but I would love to keep more of that money for myself when it comes time to add new cards.

Since I'm not likely to ever buy an Nvidia GPU again, I would be pretty happy with an upgrade to my Vega 56 in the heat and acoustics department. This thing is seriously a furnace.

Complete hearsay. CEO of Nvidia say "no time soon" for consumer focused GPUs.

Can you provide a link to which coins have hard forked. Last I checked eth hadn’t. Hard forking splitting the chain. So I am not sure all developers are going to be onboard splitting the chain each time ASIC has a workaround.

Plus all cards seem to be readily available now at or below msrp. Something has clearly changed.

Everyone keeps saying this and I would like to know where they are finding these cards because I'm not seeing it. The RX580 released at $229 for the 8gb version. Most everything I'm seeing is still over $300 with an occasional sale on select ones for $280. That doesn't seem like anywhere near at or below msrp to me.

Um, ETN, Monero, GRAFT which are the 3 I am most concerned with since they will all play a huge part in the coming years. I am not aware of ETH ASICS in the wild, but if they do come on board then ETH will make the switch to POS instead of PoW.

well eth going proof of stake is going to happen regardless. That has been their plan from the beginning. Either way GPUs wont be able to mine it though. There has definitely been reports on eth asics, you can google it if you like.

As far as other coins I am not to sure about. I think currently its a broken model. Manufacturers should implement something in hardware of GPUs to disable mining and have the same hardware available at premium without the kill switch but charge couple of hundred dollar premium for it. Miners will pay premium and gamers will also be able to get their cards at the price they want. I am not sure if this will happen though but if AMD is selling each GPU to retailers are the same price they originally did which I believe is the case AMD is not making the extra money the retailers are but AMD is selling every chip they make so that is a benefit there.

But if both Nvidia and AMD really wanted to look out for gamers they should mutually agree with one another to have similar solution implemented so neither is at a disadvantage. And its miners paying premium not gamers.

Because miners are not going to get cards with no display out puts as there is no resale value. That was a dumb move by the manufacturers anyways. Like a cheap attempt on a solution.

Same. And I did a search for Fury's yesterday - none for sale at any price on either NewEgg or Amazon
/not many RX580's either on eBay... all very used/mined out and selling for MSRP + $100-200
