so I got one.... have an older rig with a 290x and was waiting to pull the trigger on a VR headset...

I have not used any other consumer headset (hololens one time) and this thing is great.

I have no issues with the static IPD and the headset foam is fine.

My 5 yo son loves it.

For this price I am going to get another one .

so far my 290x has not been an issue with Windows Store VR games like Space Port or SteamVR games like Beat Saber.

Thanks for posting this.... at this price it is a killer deal (if you have a GPU already)

Glad my post came in handy for a few people. :) My daughter's system has a 290X OC/FX 8320 and we were able to run her monitor, the HP MR headset and a television all at the same time without issue. I think the most fun we've had with the headset so far was playing "I Expect You To Die". A campy, tongue-in-cheek Bond style escape-the-room game. Well worth the money.

FYI, there is a software IPD adjustment within the setup options.

thanks for posting this looks good pros and cons from someone who owns it and a oculus rift?

btw, I pulled the trigger on this. So far its getting hours of use DAILY from myself, wife and 2 kids. Beat saber and onward are amazing. The box it came in, is tiny and its JUST the headset, cable, and controllers. No tote bags or instructions or any of the origional packaging.

Smaller sweet spot and a little more screen door, excellent head tracking. Controllers not quite as good. Not worth $400 (rift is) but at $150 (or even $200) it's a complete no brainer. The rift is definitely better but I don't know that it's $200 better.

That said I brought my hp with me camping in case it rains, can't really do that with the rift.

i think im going to wait a while see whats to come. not entirely sold on anything yet. maybe i need to find a demo but i have too much social anxiety to try it in a retail setting.

150 was my price and this hit it. Was a instant purchase and dont regret it.

How'd the graduation party go?
Its not until July 15th. But I installed the beat saber mod to allow custom songs and im sure its going to be a huge hit. So far all of my friends have come over and loved it. Especially for the younger cousins. I'm the cool one with all the sweet toys, One more toy on the list of "cool shit Dan owns"

how comfortable is it? I'm debating snagging a set.

I've got a large head, so a lot of things (including XL and 2XL Hats) don't always fit my noggin.

My head is huge. I dont wear hats so i cant say how big but all my friends need to make it much tighter after me and i find it very comfortable

I got mine today. No problems with the product, all the right parts. Be aware the controllers each need 2xAA (Fry's run for a cheap pair of headphones AND rechargeable AAs+charger.. yay). It set up very quickly, and I played in the Win10 Mixed Reality beach house for a bit. Finding the good focus spot *is* tricky and I kept drifting out of it, so I was fumbling with the headset frequently, though it does fit over my glasses fine. I'm gonna mess with it more and see if I can get it to fit a little better.

any motion sickness using these ? For some reason I equate price with capability and assume the lower end stuff can cause motion sickness for something sensitive to low frame rates and laggy motion

I've not experienced any motion sickness. The framerate hasn't been an issue, my PC can drive these at 90hz. There's also no lag, it all responds smoothly. The electronics seem to be a MS "reference" set that most of the other MR headset makers are just copying (minus Samsung) and putting their own shell around it, along with putting their logo on the controllers (which again, aside from Samsung, are all identical).

This is a great price! I also have not experienced any motion sickness with this headset. With the recent update to steam to allow mixed reality headsets, this headset is perfect for someone not wanting to pay for a rift or a vive.
