Gamasutra is reporting that EA's subscription service, Origin Access, has gotten a new Premier tier that will cost you $100 a year, or $15 a month. While it seems steep at first, in addition to all the titles on, and being added to the Access list, you also get early, full access to new releases, such as Anthem and Battlefield 5.

Gotta say, this is a pretty good deal. I had Origin Access for a while, and while I was impressed with the titles on the list for "free," I didn't have too many I actually felt like playing that I hadn't already purchased before Access was a thing. Thanks to @cageymary for the story.

In the case of EA’s next four big releases (Madden NFL 19, FIFA 19, Battlefield 5, and Anthem), Origin Access Premier subscribers will be able to download and play the games on PC about 8 days before each of their full releases.

I have 1200+ games on Steam...until Access I thought Origin as the annoying thing I need to run to play Mass Effect 3. It's $30 from time to time, I hopped on the deal and it's been pretty sweet, I have no problem recommending this. I'll probably give Premier a shot for Madden and Anthem, and some of EA's neat indie games. It's easy to give EA some hate and see this as a scheme, but if they keep up with their releases and improve quality, could be a solid service.

I bet Valve would love to offer a similar service, but they haven't made a game in many many years.

Madden on fucking PC!

Signs of desperation from EA and/or greed. I could see some value if enough new games were released on a monthly basis, but their game catalog is still very weak.

Correct me if i'm wrong but you still have to buy the game at full price even thou if your a premier sub?

They've got some games outside of their own portfolio. Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny, Wasteland 2, Abzu, Furi, Virginia, The Witness, BulletStorm, and more are pretty good for the $30 I paid for the year. If you're not looking for launch day releases, I think $30 a year for access is not a bad deal and you'll eventually get access to the premium games.

No, this gives you access to the top games for that one time fee. Kind of like a Netflix subscription.

This was pointed towards the yearly $100 tier. It could be a good deal for some, but not for me.

Gonna have to say it.

Don't support EA. Doesn't matter what they dangle in front of you.

So what makes getting a game a week early worth 50 (80 if the regular one is on sale for 30 as someone above mentioned) more than a regular subscription? Seems like a pretty minor benefit. What am I missing?

With this new subscription you get access to all the new games as they come out, while with the normal sub you just get a small selection of older titles.

$30 a year for access to a lot of games -- as much as I hate EA -- is not a bad deal. I think as long as you're not buying up DLC, Day One-ing all their titles and their stupid points, it's fine. Yes, it's like renting. No you're not paying for the harm of humans or animals.
