Last time I was in the market, I know the Evo drives had issues with significant performance degradation (while the drive was being raved about elsewhere). Is that still an issue? What are people (in the know) recommending in this category?

Looking to spend under $145.

My preference these days is Crucial MX500, Samsung 860evo, and WD Blue. The new Evo drives no longer have the problems the 840/840evo's did.

Microcenter has a 512GB NVMe 2X M.2 SSD for $119 ...... speed should be faster than any Sata6 out there, at least double the speed.

I am so glad that Crucial released the MX500 as last year with the BX200, I stopped recommending them and found the 850 Evo to be difficult to match in price and performance. I was so used to recommending BX100 and MX200/MX100/M550 drives that it was kind of a shock how terrible the BX200 was. You might find some good deals on the BX300 which was the first move back into my personal sweet spot and now the MX500 took that crown. If you see a good deal on an 850/860 Evo, can't lose with that either.

I've never bought Mushkin components but they've been around a long time and I don't think they have a bad rep, the Mushkin SOURCE 500GB SSD is $99.99 on Amazon. 3D TLC.

I've had good luck so far with a Mushkin ssd from a couple of years ago. They have made good ram for years.
