Google Pixel and Pixel XL 2

I'm a bit disappointed that 7 months in I already have burn in from the clock and notifications at the top of the screen. After the horrible burn in my GS7 had I now have it set to manual brightness and rarely take it above 50%. I feel like what they did to "dim" the soft buttons at the bottom should have also been done to the top as well. Definitely going to be flexing the warranty as I get closer to the 1 year mark.

Had mine since November and have 0 burnin. I keep my brightness around 50%. Google will replace it under warranty if you have burn in.

Anyone notice the blue tint is a lot less noticable? Seem like there almost no color shift now.

A guy I work with got an XL2 yesterday and it was minimal. Still there, but it was way less noticeable than my launch day version. His also didn't have the weird "gritty" look whenever there was too much white on the screen, too. I'd feel comfortable recommending an XL if they're all like that now.

Yeah, mine doesn't have the gritty look at all. I would definitely be bothered by that far more than blueshift.

I am running 100% brightness and now a few months in I have no burn-in. Screen has a 1 minute time out.

Got my new one on warranty tradeout. Process was smooth as butter.

I checked mine like a week ago and have 0 burn in as well, but I would hope a 2 month old phone wouldn't either and I got my phone after they implemented the inverted color nav bar stuff to negate burn-in. I usually only keep my screen at about half brightness (with adaptive brightness enabled) too.

Interestingly enough, I put my phone up next to the S9+ I just got my mom this weekend and to me the displays are mostly comparable. The S9+ gets a bit brighter and doesn't ghost as bad at lower brightness, but otherwise I think the 2 XL holds its own against it now.

Android P beta 3 released today.

I'm running bone-stock not rooted beta 2 right now, how do I do a clean fresh install of beta 3?

They'll just send u the OTA. I'm running it, it's smooth.

I also hate the change to the dialer where they removed the swiping btw.

So anyone notice this delayed wake "bug" (2 XL only on the June update) that may have been an intentional change? Apparently the phone takes 2-3 seconds to wake up if you have the Always on Display disabled. My phone doesn't seem to be affected by it though. It might take a second longer to wake sometimes, but after testing it a bunch, it's rare or inconsistent at worst.

Yup, introduced by the June patch and lots of people are upset about it.

I'm using a custom kernel (Flash Kernel) that retains the fix that led to this bug while fixing the screen on delay.

(the intended change adds 50ms of delay but we're obviously seeing more than that)

I'm still on the May update. I get updates around the 13th - 15th each month.

I'm curious guys... Do you have your displays set to Boosted or Saturated profile?
Saturated. Brings the screen to life.

Right now Verizon has 650$ toward a second 2/XL if you buy one at full price. worth while at this point? Wife has a 6P with a degrading battery and my MotoX has had a dead mainboard and i've been on a 929 for the last month. seriously considering this for us, but concerned about screen burn-in issues. Worth doing, or better considering something else or waiting?

Definitely still worth getting IMO. If you've skimmed the thread over the past few months and saw any recent YouTube vids about it, it seems that they've tweaked the display a bit since launch. I got my 2 XL back in April and have absolutely no burn in right now and the blue shift was the same as my 6P had when comparing side by side (so not distractingly bad).

FWIW too, these phones come with a two year warranty now and 3 years of OS and security updates.

That averages about to be about 400 to 450 so it's not bad. One of the best overall packaged phone out there period. Jump on it

Anyone notice WiFi disconnecting and reconnecting immediately thereafter? Mostly notice it in the Youtube app because it will say "back online" with the the green bar at the bottom every time WiFi reconnects. But I'll occasionally catch it switching to LTE and back to WiFi just while using the phone. It does it with any AP I've connected to (several) and while I'm close to the AP with strong signal as well.

Not too big of a deal since it doesn't really interrupt anything, but it's a minor annoyance that shouldn't happen still. After seeing Kyle RMA his phone for WiFi issues, I'm wondering if mine is about to take a dump too or something.

Anyone tried to replace the screen themselves on the 2xl ? Mines cracked and I just cant see spending $240 at the UbreakIrapeU store

Maybe check developer settings and see if aggressive handover is enabled (turn it off). Might also want to turn off mobile data always on if it's turned on.

Ended up getting one,had to jump through some hoops, as they would only do the deal for new lines. Everytime I go through Verizon for a phone I fucking hate dealing with them. However wife had an unknown corperate discount so we basically got an additional line for the house for free. Which works as often one of the childcare providers will forget their own phone.

Nice phone. OMG battery life.

Sonuvabitch!! My monthly security updates have been downloading automatically on the 15th or 16th of each month. I just checked manually for July's update and it's installing right now. (y)

Loved my pixel 2 xl. The standby time on this phone is crazy good vs my old oneplus 3.

Time to jump through more hoops, pretty much since day one my data signal has sucked, or at least been about Sprint quality. Poor WiFi reception, 3g and medium bars for cellular data. Thought it might have been newer Android being more accurate than my last Android phone, but same site at the same time comparisons with the wife's phone (same phone purchased at the same time from the same store) shows it's just my phone that sucks. But because it's been 3 weeks Verizon wants to warranty it with a refurbished unit and I have to go back to the same store that I bought it from.

I am half tempted to give the phone back and switch to T-Mobile at this point.

Rocking DP4 now, and holy cow, just so nice. Smooth. Fast. No issues so far, absolutely daily driver ready. Zero bloatware, zero lag. It just works :)

In my opinion, this is the best Android has to offer, I'll take a Pixel 2 XL running Android P DP4 over any new Galaxy S9+, or HTC U12, or LG G7.

I'm on my 2nd Google Pixel 2 XL, 1st one had to go in for warranty work ( blown speakers ) They sent me a brand new phone. But never saw a blue hue / tinge.

We are in slightly different boats. Overall, pleased, but there are a handful of issues.

I have a Garmin watch connected via Bluetooth. I have to restart the phone every day or I won't have connectivity with the watch. When I remove the watch and try and add it again, it just hangs. Restart, no issues.

Second issue... Let say I save 10 pictures to my device from the funny pictures thread here. It will give me a notification for every one. Then I try and swipe them away and there are always a few I cannot. Even if I click "remove all" at the bottom, they stay.

Otherwise, no real issues.

The June and July updates both had improvements for wifi connectivity with certain access points.

Since the July update my email program, Edison, constantly crashes. Had to go back to Gmail.

My 2 XL is still having the same WiFi toggling issue that I mentioned above. Anyone else seeing that?

I checked aggressive handover, as ChronoReverse suggested, but it was already turned off by default.

Guys on P Beta, how the pill & gestures work? Was it upgraded properly on beta 3?
And any of you like the implementation?
As of now, OnePlus gestures beats google by a mile, for me, interested on pixel's take.

Open developer options and change the Bluetooth AVRCP version to something other than 1.4. I have to set mine to 1.3 in order for it to work correctly with my trucks Uconnect. Then set it to 1.5 for it to work correctly with my bluetooth speakers. Generally I just leave it on 1.3 since it gets used in the truck more than anything.

Since we're talking about email apps, I need a new mail app. Currently I have iCloud mail on my Outlook app, and folders support are shitty. I don't get any push updates on emails that my rules move into folders. Gmail sucks too. I'm trying to decide between Nine, Blue, and Aqua. I'm leaning towards Aqua cause it's got Tasker integration. I think they all say they are secure. Anyone with experience with email rules>moving mails to folders and getting app notifications?

Nine can do all of that.

After some more research, I found a recent Reddit post from someone who is asking for the same thing, notifications on subfolders.

Blue has been knocked out of contention, with just Aqua and Nine in the running. Aqua Pro is cheaper, and I don't think Nine has Tasker integration (it has a tasker, but not Tasker the automation app integration, correct me if I'm wrong).

Anyone get Android Pie today?

Still not seeing the OTA on my 2 XL. Wonder if TMobile is holding back the update again like they seemed to do for the May update that I had to wait 2 weeks for after every other carrier got the OTA immediately.

Chime in if you got it, if you're coming from Oreo or a DP, and what carrier you're on.

I've got it.. But I'm in Australia so may not help you. Went live for me about 3 hours ago? Bought unlocked, not with a particular carrier, direct from google.

Seems working fine so far, no major issues or hiccups.

I'm with T-Mo, on Oreo 8.1, but no August update for my 2XL, yet.
