Some time back I went to Office Depot and bought one of those glass L-shaped desks. Initially it was OK but I ended up hating it. Shopping around I never really could find anything I liked that wasn't ridiculously expensive. Good Lord, office furniture gets crazy expensive if you do not want the pressed sawdust stuff. So, I built my own and am really happy how it turned out. :D

(Yes, I am a huge MCU fan)

I wanted a wall to wall desk - 8 foot total length. Built the frame out of 2x4s and 3.5" screws.

Once leveled, I used 4" Lag bolts with washers to secure it to the studs.

I don't have a photo but there is a 1/2 sheet of plywood covering the frame before the next step.

We went down to Lumber Liquidators looking at hardwood flooring. Ended up buying a single box of BELLAWOOD 3/4" x 3-1/4" Select Brazilian Koa Prefinished that someone purchased to much of. Originally, $144 per box and the manager sold it to me for $20. Not too shabby!

Laid it all out for a "test fit"

The overhang here is intentional.

Cut the pieces as needed - once cut they really do not need glue or nails.

RGB Lighting added for the overhang and front of the desk. I have a Phanteks case that has the RGB controller so I attached it to that. Added a dimmer and a switch up under the desk to turn it off all together if needed.

Ordered some Acrylic Rod Clear Extruded - Square. I then took a dremel tool and sanded/scuffed some texture into them. Some fine grained sandpaper afterwards to finish frosting the finish.

Tucked the lighting in between the desk and the flooring. Made an extension and ran it back to the computer. Tested the lighting to make sure everything was going to look and work as expected.

Started gluing and clamping the front Koa to the desk with Liquid Nails.

Still need to silicone the Acrylic Rods into place.

Ran the extra lighting up underneath the table for additional glow.

Definitely have some desk-envy going on now. Excellent job and nice score on the flooring, looks amazing. The lighting is a nice touch too!

Has me mentally planning one for myself.

Kudos!

Mount one of these under your desk! I have one wall mounted in my little comms closet.
