So... where are people getting their Vegas from?

I got a new LG monitor with FreeSync. I figured I try and see if I could switch out my Titan X (Maxwell) with a Vega 56. Thinking I’ll get similar or better performance with the smoothness of FreeSync.

Holy fuck, Radeon Vega 56/64 at 700/900 USD respectively. I see threads of “just got my Vega” or “made the switch.” I have to ask, where are you people finding Vega for reasonable price?
 
I bought mine when Newegg was selling the videocard combo - I think it was a video card + power supply or something. I can't remember but it worked out to be paying retail for each but you had to buy both. Take a look. Maybe they're still doing that.

I got one when it was brand new and msrp price... I got another recently on sale, $579 for a V56 reference card. Still overpriced but whatever.

EDIT: a typo - sorry I didn't have a killer deal for $479

Please do not keep it a secret, tell us where you got it on sale, thanks. (I have yet to see a reference Vega 56 anywhere for that price.)

It was on amazon a few weeks ago. It went up to $599 and then $649 after that.

EDIT: I see what you're saying lol I typo'd that it was FIVE 79 not $479 sorry!

Nabbed one from Microcenter's open box area for $425 back around November.

Powercolor aftermarket 64 is $630 on fleabay via newegg atm which is not terrible all things considered, especially if you get it on a big promo or bucks % day. I picked one up for a friend and got 10% bucks along with the free google spy box.

Other than that the prices have been in perma fucked land for months, like gas I wouldn't expect fast drops only fast rises.
 
To those that were able to purchase them with out getting price gouged, good job!

I’ll just wait until a refresh which will hopefully be soon.

I'd sell your Titan and just buy one. I mean in the long run, it will cost you ~$100-150 more then the old outdate MSRP? I mean personally I would rather have the card now and enjoy it vs waiting a few months and trying to find a deal all the time. I just snagged my 7th VEGA off eBay (my first 64 though) 3 weeks ago for $680 with a $130 GPU block installed. Since I would have purchased the block anyway that was $530 for a 64. I was happy with it. Especially since it is working nicely to pay itself off ;)...
 
Was just looking around for these, were they ever available at MSRP? I remember there being lots of bundles when they launched, but it was at peak crypto time and it seems they're still very high priced. Figured it would have come down by now.

[edit] Also looking around and only seeing a handful of boards with non-reference heatsinks (and maybe also non-reference PCBs?) I guess supply has been more limited than I thought it would be this far on.

I remember people claiming to buy these at MSRP at launch with a deal here and there. I also remember seeing people posting about their new cards. Keep in mind at launch, these cards were not well received by the reviewers with the Vega 56 getting somewhat positive reviews. (Coming from the poorly received Frontier Edition Vega did not help either.) The Vega56's were selling out at 419 on Newegg. I remember Vega64 was available because they were selling 500 < Vega64 < 600 close to the 1080Ti's price. Mining apparently wasn't that hot on these cards at first with the 480/580 being the ones to get for that.

I finally sprang for one, knowing full well it's a power hungry space heater. Should get another 7% cashback through chase too. I wish I could sell the FC5 that came with it, but it looks like you need Vega or 580 cards to redeem it.

I use a undervolted XFX 390 X freesync combo for 4K and it is fine.
My gaming target is 50 FPS min, anything lower the free sync drops out unless you mod the drivers. I use V sync or target frame control to avoid tearing on some titles if above refresh rate.
I also turn off AA at 4K, personal preference.

I game on ultra on Verdun @ 75 FPS,
Multiplayer Crysis 3 @ 60 FPS very high settings,
Star Wars BF on ultra 60 FPS steady and higher if V sync is disabled,
Need For Speed 60 FPS ultra, med AO, Gorgeous in 4K
Metro LL 50 FPS very high, no PhysX, no SSAA,
COD BO3 90 FPS maxed out
Alien Isolation ultra 60 FPS min
Bioshock inf ultra 60 FPS min
Titanfall ultra 60 FPS with AO turned down a bit.
Dirt Rally ultra 60 FPS steady.

I see no need to upgrade until I leave the 60 Hz world.
Most modern titles are fine with a pre render reduction of 80% of 4K if the game will allow you to change this setting.
If you side by side two identical systems running at 80% vs 100% render you cannot tell the difference.
 
Was casually window shopping on Newegg and BHPhoto and I came across some interesting prices.


ASUS ROG STRIX RX Vega 56 O8G GAMING 549.99 MSRP is 489.99 on Newegg

ASUS ROG STRIX RX Vega 64 O8G GAMING 659.99 MSRP is 579.99 on Newegg.

PowerColor Radeon RX Vega 64 Is 579.99 on Newegg. This one is higher clocked than the ASUS.

Well prices are much better. I kind of wish we were paying under the reference MSRP prices but these are factory overclocked premium models. One thing for sure is these prices make the miner's used prices look ridiculous.

The 399 and 499 MSRP's were for reference boards. These are not reference boards, are significantly overclocked, and come with much better coolers. They're below their respective MSRPs. Now, whether prices will continue to drop remains to be seen.

Got mine from BestBuy for the Newegg price, Vega56 in the hizzouse. They price match if you push them. Mine was the MSI Blower Vega 56.
 
Finally gave in and bought the asus vega 64 for $589. Can't wait untill it gets here!

You will enjoy it. :) I have a Vega 56 Reference flashed with the Vega 64 bios and it has worked quite well since I bought it in October of 2017.

Do you also undervolt it? I've been reading about that and it seems to make the max boost clock higher for longer, if I understand it correctly.

Nah, I just use Wattman, set the HBM to 1100, fan to a max of 4000, power limit to +50 and a max temp of 85C. The speed gets up to 1580 to 1600 which I think is good for a reference 56 card. :) Not noisy either but then again, I do not pay attention to it anyways.
