The next big game from Fallout developer Bethesda Game Studios is Fallout: 76, the company announced today, and although the studio hasn’t yet said what it is, we hear it’s an online game of some sort.

From what we’ve heard, this game is under development at both Bethesda Game Studios’ main office in Maryland and at the Austin office formerly known as Battlecry Studios. That Austin office, which started in 2012, was making a hero shooter called Battlecry before Bethesda canceled it.
We’ll see more of the game at Bethesda’s E3 press conference on June 10.

Kotaku reported that Fallout 76 will be “an online game of some sort.” Polygon has also heard the game will feature multiplayer.

A press release sent out by Bethesda said Fallout 76 is in development at Bethesda Game Studios on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. We expect to learn more during this year’s E3 in Los Angeles. Bethesda has its own press conference, called BE3, scheduled for Sunday, June 10, at 6:30 p.m. PT. It’s the publisher’s fourth dedicated E3 event.

Sources: Fallout 76 Is An Online Survival RPG[/size=4]

Today 1:47pm Filed to: FALLOUT

When Bethesda announced Fallout 76 with a teaser trailer this morning, promising more information at E3, it was easy to assume that the new game would be a traditional single-player role-playing game. But Fallout 76 is in fact an online survival RPG that’s heavily inspired by games like DayZ and Rust, according to three people familiar with the project.

Those people, speaking anonymously so as not to damage their careers, confirmed that Fallout 76 is an experimental new entry in the longrunning post-apocalyptic series. When Bethesda first teased the game on Tuesday morning, fans and pundits speculated that it might be a Fallout 3 remaster or a New Vegas-style spinoff in a new location, but as Kotaku reported that afternoon, it is in fact something completely new and completely different. The teaser might lead Fallout fans to believe that this is a traditional entry in the series, but according to our sources, that’s not the case.

Originally prototyped as a multiplayer version of Fallout 4 with the goal of envisioning what an online Fallout game might look like, Fallout 76 has evolved quite a bit over the past few years, those sources said. It will have quests and a story, like any other game from Bethesda Game Studios, a developer known for meaty RPGs like Skyrim. It will also feature base-building—just like 2015's Fallout 4—and other survival-based and multiplayer mechanics, according to those sources. One source cautioned that the gameplay is rapidly changing, like it does in many online “service” games, but that’s the core outline.
The game is named after the series’ Vault 76, which has been mentioned in both Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. According to Fallout lore, Vault 76 was meant to open just 20 years after the nuclear war, allowing for a far less civilized setting than previous games. Fallouts 3 and 4, which are full of cities and settlements, both take place over 200 years after the war, after much of the population has had time to reconstruct human civilization. Fallout 76 will feel very different. As the narrator of the trailer says: “When the fighting is stopped, and the fallout has settled, you must rebuild.”

I'm going to guess a remaster of FO3 or something like that. Its too soon for a Fallout 5 and this year is the 10th anniversary of 3.

I'm buying into the idea it's either a remastered FO3 or a new Fallout Online.

If this is Fallout 5....people are going to flip there shit left and right since Elder Scrolls 6 is not out yet.

I hope this isn't the Elder Scrolls Online for Fallout.

Honestly...this could be a interesting concept. If they can improve/innovate upon The Division, Destiny, etc...in a big universe with the Fallout theme....could be fun.

i'd play that in a heartbeat.

While I'd love another Fallout, based on their recent releases it'll just be a re-release of Skyrim where you have a pipboy for $60.

The colors scheme the Please Stand By picture are not reminiscent of previous Fallout games. Could be a new game?

Based on the teaser I saw moments ago, my first guess would be some kind of building game, Fallout Shelter meets Mincraft kind of game

Vault 76 was a site of alien abductions if I remember correctly from Fallout 3. The lower the number of the vault the further west in the country it is. Maybe it's still in the Captial Wasteland area?

Pre-E3 press conferences begin next week, so we'll see what it is. I wouldn't be surprised if it's Fallout Online, given the success of TES Online. Does that mean content updates for the latter will sunset soon?

sharknice - Maybe a Fallout MMO ala ElderScrolls.. maybe a 'Fallout Go'.. maybe another Fallout Shelter expansion.. base building.. etc.

Well it's official...
It's basically Fallout 4 Online (same engine)
Server based multiplayer = NO MODS
(or else Creation Club 'pay-to-win')
You can play solo... but other players (dozens) will be on your world at any time... PvE seems scaled for group play
Base building seems to use 99% F4 graphic assets
Access (group play) to nukes???? Why?
/not for me

New sci-fi game and Elder Scrolls VI teased (at least a year away)

Agreed. this one is a skip to me.

I'm looking forward to the NV mod. Fallout: New California which should be out in October 2018, right around the time this Fallout 76 turd drops.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallout:_New_California

Project lead Brandan Lee of Radian-Helix Media, LLC was inspired by the games Fallout and Fallout 2 from Black Isle Studios. With the help of friends in the film, TV, radio, and live theater industries, Lee set out to create a modification of Fallout 3 for people who appreciated the style of the original Black Isle games. Project Brazil has a radio station that will comment on the actions of the player as the story progresses further, but includes music from the 60s and 70s in addition to 50s and 40s style music associated with the franchise. The player's S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats also has a greater impact on dialog choices with NPCs and player skills. Originally known as Fallout: Project Brazil, the modification was renamed to Fallout: New California on September 1, 2017.

It maybe a official, and I saw it online but there was no mention in your words it needs the Creation Club or it has the same game engine as fallout 4 and you can play it solo didn't mention with other players or (dozens) as you put it, only multiplayer it seems to me this is just in your own opinion base on a rant not facts before it is released in November 2018, IMO I think you enjoy making rants so others online can follow you. I for one will wait for game then play it before making any new threads base on facts not rants.

Watch the E3 presentation... even if you play 'solo', you will be logged into their servers and play along with "dozens" (their quote) of other players and PvE might be scaled towards group combat (remember the ratfuck that was Asheron's Call 2?).
Server login certainly means no user side mods - CC use is speculative, but suggested by earlier leaks by several other reports (not yet confirmed, but suspected)
F4 graphics were obvious during the presentation during the construction sequence.
Rant, no.... just badly disappointed
/but I'm over it - no shortage of games in the world to be played and that's why Baskin-Robbins sells 31 flavors of ice cream. Fans of PVP games will likely enjoy this game
//F:NC does look interesting!
///PvP with NUKES??? wtf?

If you read Kyle's tidbit on the newspage, you would know they worked on the engine quite a bit "All new rendering, lighting, and detail engines will give up to 16X detail compared to Fallout 4."

Riiiight. I'll believe it when I see it.

even if I play solo but still logged on who cares I have no problem with that, the game titles sometimes gets changed before release date, I don't think IMO that Bethesda will take out the single player and make you play with others in their biggest title Fallout 76 it would be madness.

16x detail? I didn't know graphics was quantifiable like that :ROFLMAO:

Madness it is. Graphics are F4 +0.05%,online only,no real modding at launch, all players see all other players on the world map, This title is a big dissapointment for me,Todd Howard is nuts.

Cutting chunks from this interview.. does a decent job getting a frame of reference.

with Bethesda Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Communications, Pete Hines
[...]
“I mean, it’s nothing like Fortnite,” Hines said. “It’s not even remotely an MMO. It’s not like this or that. It’s not like Destiny. It’s not like any of those things. It’s not like Rust, other than it’s an online world with people in it. Fallout 76 is a roleplaying game. It is not a PvP, kill everybody, fest.”

From what I’ve seen and been told, the best way to think about it is to imagine a world much larger than Fallout 4 and remove all of the named human NPCs from it. Add in more robots, more ghouls, and more irradiated creatures and areas, then throw in a few dozen players to fill the gaps and add to the nuance.

“There are still tons of quests,” reassured Hines. “That’s what I do, when I play, I am building my character, questing, and leveling up, and deciding what kind of stuff to be good at and finding things in the world.”

In short, you can totally still play this like a Fallout game. If you liked the base building stuff from Fallout 4, then great, you can indulge in that sort of stuff more since you’re able to build anywhere and move things everywhere. But you don’t have to do that just like you don’t have to fight other characters necessarily.
[...]
even though you can play primarily solo, this is a 100 percent always online game by design. You need an internet connection to play at all.
[...]
“All your stuff, including buildings, go with you,” assured Hines. “It’s not like, ‘Oh, that’s on the other server,’ no, that’s all your stuff, so it’s with you. Where your character is, that’s where your stuff is. If two players have structures on the same spot, we have stuff that works through how all that plays out.
