So the new 1180 and 1170 look like they are coming this summer. My plan was to go 1180 but now I am thinking it might be a good time to buy a current card.

What would you consider a really good price on a New 1080ti, 1080, and 1070ti?

What would be a really good price on a Used 1080ti, 1080, and 1070ti?

I'm in the same exact boat. I sold off my 980 Ti a few months ago for $400, as I wasn't gaming much. Now that I have the itch to game (VR racing mainly) I'm getting antsy.

I found a local guy yesterday that listed an Asus Strix 1070 for $300. A little more than I wanted to pay, so I asked him the absolute minimum he would take. We agreed on $250. I'm supposed to pick it up in a few hours. It's essentially a side step from the 980 Ti I had, but I figure I put $150 in my wallet doing so and got a little nicer build quality card.

You guys think this is a worthwhile purchase?

sure, if you want to buy a used card that will have zero warranty (ASUS doesn't honor warranty transfers) ... I'd definitely buy EVGA and especially if shopping for a used card.

to the OP:

$700 / $600 / $500 if high end EVGA like 1080 FTW respectively

What would be a really good price on a Used 1080ti, 1080, and 1070ti?

currently there are no really good prices for used GPU's unless you take a chance on Craigslist or know someone personally.

If it's EVGA and a Series 10 card you likely have at least one year on the transferable warranty and get 24/7 free phone tech support as well but if the person you buy it from had somehow damaged the card and it doesn't show until later that can be an issue when claiming a replacement

I paid 625 shipped for a Evga 1080ti FTW3 here in the forums. I think that was pretty decent given the power it has. Don't really care about 1180. I suspect it might be little faster than 1080ti but who know. I will be content with it and the quality of FTW3 is second to none. Brand new is 850+ tax on newegg.

I think this is the most likely scenario:

The 1180 will be $800 at launch (that's MSRP -- actual price will surely be higher, and availability be skint)
The 1180's performance is within 10-15% of a 1080 ti
You'll be able to find 1080 tis for $600-650 (unless this late-capitalism create money from nothing thing spikes again)

=> GTX 1080 ti is the winner, or at least a co-equal and more readily available solution

If we are lucky we might see the 1180 cards near middle - end of this year, But there is still allots of fake news online when Nvidia will release it!. If you want to wait for just 30% faster cards go ahead, but here in the UK £819.31 EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti FTW3. prices are coming down don't buy from third party their prices are way over the top.

My price limit for any new card is $300. I hope I can find a Nvidia 1080 on Craigslist locally for that price someday this year. I game at 1080p so thankfully it helps keep my budget lower too :)

my price limit is around 300 but with work and everything my days of burning stupid amounts of money on high end hardware have been long gone.

I would not pay more than 6% over MSRP of last gen. (Which is 2 years old) But NVIDIA has a monopoly on the top end so they can bend us all over as much as they want.

If I can't get the top bin VR experience for $1500 including headset, & controllers, I'm staying out.

I'm waiting for Ti any way. NVIDIA loves to 2#$@## with early adopters by always releasing a 1180 Ti for only a little more.

They are saying $999 and $1499 respectively. NVIDIA can kiss my tail at those prices. I'm loyal to no one, but I'm not stupid either, even with my income.

Think of it this way you could buy a shit load of games for 1K.....
Then just live with your old card or downgrade from 4K if you consider 4K a upgrade

1440P is the sweet spot where you don't have to worry about having the best card.

None, it would have to be a significant upgrade in performance to my current setup. My last upgrade was Titan to Titan Xp which was approximately 130% performance boost.

I look at it this way:

To ensure you get the best VR experience for both this gen VR games and NEXT, you have to buy top shelf. Otherwise you are just pissing money down the tubes if your main intent is to play VR. Not only will you get more complex games, but also higher res headsets.

Meanwhile my 9790 is chugging along just fine at 1080 with most options turned up. No reason for me to upgrade. So I'm staying out of VR till I can at least protect myself game wise for 2 gens < $1500 on the total package (GPU + headset + controllers)

I paid $400 for that 9790 and it's 5 years old. I consider that a good value.

You have to look at how many games you play and how often. If I purchase at most 2 bleeding edge games a year, upgrading every year would make that a very expensive proposition. Even every other year would make it tail bleeding expensive. Four $50 games become $290 games for a $1000 card over 2 years.

So the question becomes, "At what price points for games does it become 'worth it?'"

after the new card comes out, i would go for:
- 1180 if its under 750 and reviews show considerable improvement over 1080ti. If not then
- 1080ti if it drops to under 500 (will compare to 1170 first on price/performance). If not then
- stay with the 970 till christmas then re-evaluate again

May not happen till AMD releases that die shrink vega or navi 10.

I'll give it time. I'm still using a GTX 1060 that I thankfully bought at $260 before the crypt-currency craze. When released it was about equal to a GTX 980 so I'm hoping we'll see a 1160 that is close to a 1080 for $300. But yeah, may not see drastic price drops till AMD gets their GPU house in order.

Forgot about the 1160, good point!!
I'm in no rush but am keeping my feelers out for a firesale vega, just before nvidia drop the 11 series and prices go back up again in the buying frenzy. I do not expect an 1160 for a while though, they have so much inventory to clear...

I hope we will get 1170 with 1180ti performance for around 500$. I'm still on 980ti so anything less is not worth upgrading and I'd prefer to have something around 150-180W tdp this time.

Same, except I'm running a 980, and when I build a new rig when the new TR comes out, I might consider 980 SLI to tide me over.

The 1270 will definitely have 1180 Ti performance when it comes out in 2019 at 7nm.
