Valve Slammed over “Horrendous” Steam School-Shooting Game

Anti-gun groups are calling on Valve to remove Active Shooter, a game where players can take on the role of a school shooter and gun down children. The developer argues that there are worse games on Steam (e.g., Hatred, Postal) but admits that he will probably make changes due to all the criticism.

"Acid", who plans to add a survival mode in which you play as a civilian and have to "escape or perform a heroic action such as fight against the shooter itself", took to Active Shooter's Steam page to defend the game. "First of all, this game does not promote any sort of violence, especially any soft [sic] of a mass shooting," Acid said.
 
Makes me think back to when Postal and Manhunt were released. Granted those didn't hit so close to home. Ballsy move. I expect the politicians to grab this and run with it as a school shooting simulator\training game.
 
Surprised someone hasn't contacted Jack Thompson about this so he can get some media coverage for the first time in about a decade.
 
There was a kid who made a flash thing about shooting up a school a few years ago, nothing bad came of that.

I mean the kid who made it shot up a school, but that was about all.

Eh.

Theres this cognitive dissonace among devs and gamers, where hyper violence is totally fine but things like (tasteful) sex scenes/romance, even a hint of violence against (or from) children, and other things apparently cross the line. This game seems to exist just to point that out.

So you're probably right, the fallout could be bad. But if it gets us more high-budget games that don't involve blowing/chopping someone's head off, well, that's a silver lining IMO.
 
They did the same thing when there was a arcade style shooter that allowed gamers to shoot certain types of people. I think valve just stopped selling it.
 
One of the first mods I download for Elder scrolls or Fallout games is the one that allows killing kids. Some of these kids in those games deserve to die. :p
It is a game. Just a game. Don't like it, don't buy. Feel free to yell about it if you like though. This is America after all. But since this is America, your outrage, should not affect how I play my video games.

Agreed, these shock value games almost always suck balls.

Better then trying bury your head in the sand.

Unless it's hidden by my preferences to not "Show products with frequent nudity or sexual content", this publisher released their first title in December, 2017. Not a long history.

Look folks, it's not hard to crank out a video game nowadays. Just look at all of the FPS out there. I had been wondering if this was something that was cranked out by a "video games are violent" SJW who wants to bring attention to this issue.

Now, before anyone comes down on me saying "you have no idea how long to takes a develop a video game", note that I did not include any adjectives, specifically the words "decent", "good", and/or "fantastic". Those require plenty of work, testing, and so on.

While our youth dies these comments look more and more like immature nonsense. Guns should be bannned. I may sell my own in a pawnshop soon enough. I' ve changed a lot, the problem is guns, they need to be banned completely, permanently... Even then, with so many already out there i expect it would take decades for the problem to subside.

sort of like heroin, heroin should be banned. more people die every year from heroin OD than guns so heroin is bad and should be banned. Oh wait thats already illegal. maybe since we have had guns for hundreds of years and no rash of school shootings until lately. Maybe this is a media driven hate issue or a chemical imbalance with all the poison they put in our food today. Yet I would wager just as much it's common core or parents who spend more time on their phone or playing GTA than parenting and training there children. I totally bet that if you look deep into this you will find that this was paid for by George Soros or some other left wing hate mongers to stir up the peasants. Banning guns sure has worked out well for chicago, so much so that the military uses the area to train combat medics.

I digress and agree that this game may be in bad taste at this time however I withhold further statement until I actually review the game.

Actually nothing like heroin.
As far as the game goes, its disgusting. I hope the makers gets sued by shooting victims. That being said I support his free speech, and yes while wishing he gets sued and goes broke for misusing free speech.

First thing I noticed was you could also play as a SWAT team member trying to kill the shooter so it's not just a school shooter game but one that happens to give the option to play both sides. Funny how no one mentioned that. If anyone wants this game to be censored in any way you're inviting our past time to get fucked for all of us. Don't like it then don't play it.
 
Last I checked High School football was still killing a couple children a year.

I agree that the game may be in bad taste, but damn, when are we going to start looking at schools themselves as the source of school violence? Human nature doesn't change very fast, yet suddenly something like a third of kids and teens are on adhd or antidepressant meds and nobody asks what it is about the school environment that's causing this.

Scapegoating some indie game or violent music or whatever the flavor of the week is doesn't seem to be helping.

I thought about it .. destroying is also a consideration. No i im not trolling, i an serious, this shit needs to end. And banning guns is the only way, in the end it is a hobby for me, and for millions of gun owners.. all other arguments are complete and utter nonsensical bullshit, most gun owners know this unless too obsessed. Even the one i believed in most, which is the one of fighting an actively repressive government is bullshit.. peaceful works just fine, it not magical, it takes years but is works, you just have to have the mind to be part of it when the moment is needed.
 
What exactly do you guys want your guns for in the USA? You want to have some sort of militia? You're worried about another country trying to march in and take the USA over? I just want to understand the mindset.
 
You know, in the end not trying to offend anyone in any personal way just sharing my own process which is on going.. after Newtown, which i didn't intentionally follow too much, i was put in my ass a bit regardless. Then fl, then tx.. shit c' mon. This ain't making any sense.
