Delidding For Cooler Temps

Boring for most guys here, but I’ve been getting help her for most builds thanks to HardOC.

I like 1U workstation quality designs where CPU and Streaming from Submemory gets a good workout.
This summer I’m going to be doing lots of outdoor performances in the Midwest.
100% humidity and usually 100+ degrees.

My H97 WS and i7 4790k will become a spare.
Want to use the i3 8350k and delidding if I can confirm tempurature will stay around 60C.
Dynatron Liquid 1U Cooler isn’t working as I wanted.
So good old Dynatron 1U HSF will be used.

How much in temps droppping is standard with delidding.

For the 8350k only about 3-4 degree drop would be expected from delidding (at 100% usage), not really worth it.

Thanks for your reply, but every degree matters actually.
Probably going to buy a delidded i7 8700k from a delidder selling high binned CPUs w/ warranty.
Seems the extra cores won’t add noticeable latency and single core 8000s @ 3.8 are still faster than 4790k.

I’m using 30% on single core, 10-20% on multi core and actually monitor my temps.
The rig runs from 54%-65% consistently, except when I perform at outdoor summertime venues.
The only time my rig took a dump was a gig that 110 degrees caused my CPU to idle @ temps I usually see when I’m playing.
@ 80C I started getting dropouts of my Audio, I still could get through the gig but had to reboot 4 times to drop temps.
It’s probably humidity too.
But I’m just wanting to avoid the same trouble I had.

I currently have 3 x 22k rpm Barrel Fans pushing air across the board, through the RAM, also have a crossfan for my 2x NVMe device too.

My recommendation on the cheap side would be to try to make a shroud directing those blaster fans on the CPU (maybe cardboard or high temp plastic)
Beyond that, maybe even a portable A/C unit, look at a better cooler/ higher RPM blower motor, or upgrade the case so you have more room for a larger/better cooler.

Thats definitely a dilemma without buying dedicated equipment that is meant to handle those high temps.
 
turning the cpu fan 180 so its sucking air from the blowers might help. right now it looks like it looks like its sucking hot air off the vrm.
 
Yuze guys gave me a great idea.
The fans are so powerful that there’s no way airflow is an issue.
They actually can suck a piece of paper up and hold it.

I’m so satisfied with everything in my rack mount builds I’m going to buy an AC since this is only about 4 gigs.
Let that cold air get sucked into the chassis. And occasionally spray compressed freezing air into the CPU on the break in between shows.

Still buying the delidded i7 8700k from that company though.

The 1U Liquid Server Cooler from Dynatron was a great idea.
Hopefully they’ll make another that works better.

ek also has a 1u block if you ever go that way. the ac is a good idea too. you could also lower the clock/voltage a bit since you aren't maxing the cpu usage.
