Battlefield V

I've wondered if they hired Trevor Noah (south african) for the reveal because it's Eastern/Northern African fronts, ala Battlefield V: Desert Fox.

OTOH, hard to imagine EA agreeing to one of the more obscure theaters as commercially viable.

That could be something if it has to be WWII. A gritty, bombed out Stalingrad on the latest Frostbite with the full photogrammetry treatment. Eastern front is where the real war was fought anyway.

But I wouldn't say no to a solid Pacific conflict with kick ass island jungle maps and naval scenarios.

Makes me miss Red Orchestra. The first, not the 2nd.

But for BF, I wouldn't want WWII. If the game was like RO then okay, but for BF I much prefer modern. Just goes better with the gameplay style, IMO.

New teaser. More or less WWII confirmed:

Look at the icons. British and German.

What I find interesting is it looks like a campaign cutscene with MP stuff. Squad spawning on you, flags, ect.

I really hope they don't apply their Battlefront business plan to this franchise. We will know soon enough I suppose. Any news or rumors on what game engine this will run on?

If it's from EA, it's 99% running on Frostbyte. They bought DICE for that engine.

[as for Battlefront: it runs on Frostbyte the same as ME: Andromeda and BF1 do; they can do whatever they want with it]

Battlefield 5 Official Reveal Trailer

October 19th release date...those signed up to Origin Access Play First Trial can play from October 11th

Remember when Battlefield was more about using vehicles than being a glorified CoD FPS?

Honestly it seems very bad. And I'm not talking about the theme.

- Lots of customization. At the minimum this means the game will end up looking like a circus with guns, like CS:GO or R6S. Which leads into...

- No more premium pass. New content will be free. We know how that will be done, read the above point. BF3/4 actually were good for the money when it came for the seasons pass. $50 for over 20 maps, some new weapons and vehicles. I can't imagine EA will give away similar levels of content for free.

- Emphasis on making players see your customization during healing and whatnot.

- Scavenging for ammo, apparently in all modes. You don't spawn with a full ammo amount but instead have to pick it off bodies or resupply points. Clearly they're trying to tie survival type gameplay into the game. I play BF to play a war game.

- Not too sure how Conquest will play out? It doesn't seem like that mode will be in as we know it unless the early reports are mixing up game modes.

Example of some of the customization. DICE has crossed from tasteful with BF4 & 1 to CoD cheesiness.

If you were looking for a traditional BF in WWII, it looks like this is not that title. Hell if the game was BF3/4 in WWII I'd be disappointed with the theme but at least the core gameplay would be solid enough. This just doesn't seem interesting at all. I just want a good mode where there are many tanks, vehicles and infantry fight it out over a large map as well as a TDM infantry only mode that was based on skill. Not scavenging around or painting neon war paint on everything.

So is this going to be an alternate history WW2 setting? The uniforms do not look like WW2 at all. It looks like they are trying to attract the Fortnite and PUBG players.

The only thing I am interested in now is seeing how the build-able fortifications work. There is a scene where you can see sandbags being stacked. It would be pretty cool fi you could fortify positions.

Why do they have to keep putting women on the front-lines of these battles? Accuracy of depiction is already out the window here. The more "politcally correct" these war games get, the softer these wars actually look. And that pisses me off. I'm a huge battlefield fan, and a world war 2 fan. As time goes by with the release of these kind of games, the lack of realism goes out the window. I don't need a blue skin for my STG44, or a gold one, or blue face paint in the middle of a dessert battle. I want a bad ass Battlefield game that depicts the true gritty and brutal depiction of World War 2.

With this being said, I'll still play it on first day. I'm really hoping they don't wash any of the gameplay down for these "customizations". Let's hope they don't whore out unlocks in every screen to make a profit.

No seasons pass? I'm definitely okay with that, releasing the game through Chapters? I'm okay with that too, as it sounds kind of neat.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have an MP omaha beach map.

I agree completely. They are bastardizing it. Its pathetic. Fuck EA, man I had high hopes for a new WW2 game.

Why don't you guys just play Post Scriptum, Hell Let Loose, or other WW2 games if it bothers you so much?

Why not play PUGB and ruin BF? :p

Although more seriously, Hell Let Loose is not even out. I doubt it will have a strong enough player base. Does it even have tanks?

Having the one decent military MP game go out the window certainly sucks if you were a fan of those types of games. Rising Storm 2 is okay but the game is practically dead already. Such is the problem with most indie MP games. Between Overwatch, R6S, PUGB there are so many other silly themed games out there.

I suppose there is Insurgency Sandstorm to look forward to but again, it will be dead within a year.

I am fine with female characters. If you can choose them and not be forced to be one. Otherwise, wait and see. This is ea. Do not jump early.

I knew the picture above reminded me of something. Remember Brothers in Arms Furious Four?

That is what this new BF looks like visually in terms of the characters. Back then people knew it looked like crap and the backlash was huge. These days, people welcome it with open arms and embrace the 1000 different silly cosmetic changes you can apply to everything. Amazing how just a few short years changes things.

You have a point there.

it looks like the gameplay will be exactly the same as bf1. the gun animation looked exactly the same, just a different skin. the multiplayer trailer is in a couple weeks. I'll still buy it. but 3 weeks after release for $40. I got my moneys worth out of bf1, but its sad to see this game on the path its on. surprised there was no br mode.

Well I'm on the hype train. Apparently Jackfrags (longtime BF youtuber) has had time with the game and spilled a bunch of details. Even if you think DICE's bombastic-as-always cinematic sucked or had a female or whatever, the mechanics sound brilliant:

• No Premium or Season Pass, no Loot Boxes, no Pay to Win, all maps and modes will be free
• Four classes are back: assault, medic, scout, support
• Launch locations are France, Africa, Rotterdam and North African desert
• Co-op is back with Combined Arms mode
• Single player War Stories returns
• Defensive fortifications are things like sand bags, trenches, tank stoppers. Offensive fortifications are things like machine guns, field cannons. Only supports can build offensively.
• Predetermined areas to build, such as at flags, can rebuild destroyed buildings.
• Attrition system – health bar is now segmented, meaning health regen doesn't go back to 100 anymore (ie if your health is 7% it'll regen back to 20% and stop).
• Physical interactions – every action in the game requires interacting for things like medkits, ammo, ledge grabbing (ie healing requires walking over to a health pack, character animation to pick it up, then start healing)
• No more HUD/map spotting. Spotting will be based on movement/changes around you
• Attrition system – much less ammo on spawn, out of ammo after a few fights, but more ways to resupply ammo in the battlefield from packs, crates, or grabbing small amounts of ammo off of bodies (all requires physical interactions)
• Revive system has a full animation, no more revive trains, takes time to complete
• Ragdolls are server side, can now drag a downed player's body elsewhere
• Any class can do a squad revive, takes longer than a medic revive, does not give full health points
• Can call for help when down, as seen in trailer
• Ragdolls (player bodies) effect the environment, push down grass etc.
• Gunplay completely changed
• No more visual recoil
• Each gun has a unique recoil pattern that can be learned and mastered
• Bipods easier to use and setup
• Bullet penetration through thin wood, sheet metal, walls
• Movement changes: can now dive forward, backward, left and right similar to R6 Siege's prone system
• Diving has a cooldown to prevent dolphin diving and spamming
• Crouch sprinting has been added
• Can burst out of windows and commando roll, no destroying windows first
• Can catch, throw back or shoot grenades
• Less grenades because less ammo
• Towables: can tow items with vehicles, like a previously stationary AA or field cannon; teammate can use an AA gun while you tow it with a tank; can drive a truck towing an ammo crate to resupply teammates on front line
• Destruction explodes inward or outward depending on where destruction happens; ie grenade thrown into a building explodes things outward; an explosion outside a building explodes inward.
• Tank driving into a building slowly destroys a building, walls slowly crack/fall, not instant destruction.
• Heavily focused on squad play, you're instantly placed into a squad when joining a game
• New squad spawning system, squad deploy system that shows what squad mates are doing in third person in real time before the tactical map screen, so spawning on squad is faster than spawning on tactical map screen
• Since squad spawning/deploying is faster than tactical map, squad wipes are serious (10s delay to respawn)
• Squads accumulate points that can be spent on "squad call-ins", only squad leader can spend them in
• Squad Call-ins are V1 or JB2 rockets as seen in trailer, supply drops with ammo/health, a smoke barrage, heavy weapon pickups (not hero kits), squad only vehicles such as Churchill crocodile flamethrower tank or the Sturm tiger
• Elite classes are gone
• Behemoths are gone
• Large, non-fatal explosions can knock a player over
• Create a soldier, add them to a company of soldiers, then customize things like gender, face look, face paint, outfit, accessories, etc. and assign them a class archetype
• Class archetypes highly customizable -
can be an assault that specializes in anti-tank or anti-infantry only, or a mix of both, etc.
• Highly specialized archetypes called exotics such as a recon paratrooper, stealthy short-range behind enemy lines person who uses a suppressed SMG and silent gadgets like pistols and garrotes comes with silent footsteps and throwing knives
• Can change and add specialization trees such as agility, flak armor, suppressive resistance
• The more you play a class, the more specializations/archetypes earned for the class

Looked pretty but blah. Claustrophobic game play even in the "open". Hard to really see how it plays from that rushed perspective shaky cam mess. Curious but I know I wont do more than the beta at best.

Unsure why people care about female characters, its a game O_O

Russian female sniper in appropriate attire? Okay. British woman on the front lines, with war paint and is missing a fucking arm? Cartoon shit. Then you have that Neo Nazi looking skin head with face tattoos. Its a WWII game with Europe, there are real Nazis. We don't need half the player base running around looking like some meth-head Neo Nazi or some lady missing half her body. It reminds me of the cringey R6S female character who has her nails done, wears make up and tight jeans into combat.

No matter what they do, it will be cursed with tiny maps thanks to them catering to consoles. So PC gamers have nothing to look forward to but yet another watered down gimped console game.

I just hope the level design for Infantry maps is good the maps at launch for BF1 some were ok they added more later I like the windmill one the ladder one and bunker but that one felt too cramped. I played the Graveyard one later one but I don't think I had infrared scope.

haven't preordered a single EA game since BF3, I feel so hyped after reading this whole list, it's not even funny :D

I'm going to skip it just because I didn't get my money's worth for BF1 the population died too quick compared to previous BF games. I think Battlefield Hardline had a better population than Battlefield 1 just because the game was more fun and had some really strange modern maps.

You determined that from a 90 second cinematic?

I didn't get a tiny map vibe from the discussion with the DICE nerds. There was mention of vehicles being more prominent, that WW2 had a "huge pool" of hardware they were able to draw from, etc. From the trailer: Tiger Tanks, tanks towing field guns, kettenrads, V1 that can be called in and knocks players in the vicinity on their ass, those don't sound like things you put in a fishbowl.

BF1 actually had some larger maps though overall I found it too infantry focused and so I return to BF4 to get my vehicle fix, but BFV sounds like vehicle diversity and map size could be getting a big boost. We'll see.

Things that kill modern BF games is the fact that they are built primarily for consoles first and with that comes the restrictions on design, chiefly map size and terrain detail. Coming from PC games like ARMA 3 (which is now 5 years old) and even PUBG to any Battlefield game just highlights the painful fact that EA caters to the lowest common denominator and any version of Battlefield we get will be a watered down one. Go play King of the Hill for ARMA 3 with vehicles + infantry enabled (which usually only takes advantage of a small portion of Altis) and then imagine a Battlefield game with a map of that scale and it would be breathtaking.

The very first thing you see in the new trailer is a fucking Xbox logo which automatically kills any desire to play this game. What I'd like to see (and never will until consoles die out) is a Battlefield game that can take advantage of modern PCs with huge open maps where you can let loose with vehicles like airplanes/tanks without constantly running into those shitty red zones like in the recent Battlefield games. If I had to describe how it feels to play a Battlefield game (as a primarily PC gamer), it's like swimming in a fish bowl.

Given the fact that the PC gaming market is worth billions now and growing, it is time publishers like EA went back and started designing games for the PC first with consoles as a secondary platform or even create an alternate version of the game for consoles rather than a one size fits all design. Remember Battlefield 2? There was the PC version and then there was BF2: MC for consoles.
