Desk chair is leaking a black liquid from the center colunm

I assume the liquid is part of the lift system, Is there any way to drain this stuff out of it? I do not need the lift system as I use the chair on its lowest level.

If I were to drill into the canister, is this stuff under pressure?

Chair is a GTOmega Master XL that is 3 months out of warranty(I think it came with 3 year) Already contacted them about this but since its the weekend, it could take a while to hear back.

I did notice this morning that my chair was a little higher than I usually have it as it was a little difficult to move the chair with its armrests hitting the under side of my table, not by much though.

So the chair seems to be under warranty til next March, They are sending me a new height adjustment mechanism and gas piston.

Now I see a problem, How the hell do I get the wheel base off the piston tube since I am sure it is wedged onto it really tight.

Soak the area that is wedged together with WD40 for like 2 days. When your new piston comes, get a rubber mallot and tap the old one out. It should be fairly easy to get out after 2 days of WD40 penetration.

If, and only IF you have to, you can heat the base (provided it's metal...) Just do it outside because some of the fluids they put in those pistons is flammable. And WD40 certainly is.

Obvious things first. If the black stuff moves like a "spider", run. If the goo is really just dark red and it leaps when poked with a hot needle, run.

If neither of those is true, maybe it can be fixed. Just trying to avoid a horrible accident.

The parts arrived, the WD40 thing didnt work, Contacted GTOmega and they told me to prop the star base up so the thing is upside down and a few inches below the hanging parts and take a hammer and whack the piston down through the star base center hole, I used a small sledgehammer and was surprised it came out in one hit, The piston was in there very tight.

lol, I assumed flipping it over was a given for tapping it out. No worries, you got your chair fixed which is all that matters
