So, we wondered what all would be done when we found out that NVIDIA's Tegra chip on the Nintendo Switch could be easily hacked by simply shorting two pins, and now we see something fun coming through. If you were saving up your pennies for a new Classic NES, all you have to do now is steal a paperclip from the office, and you are good to go...almost. Forbes has write up this morning with all the hacker links you need.

Check out the video.

This feat was accomplished with LovePotion, a homebrew creation tool originally created for Nintendo 3DS and very recently ported to the Switch. Tools like this are proliferating because of a permanent, non-patchable boot exploit that has now been documented and shared widely. Anyone with a 3D printer and the requisite programming skills can get to work hacking their own console.

Definitely be running this. Nintendo has the PERFECT console for virtual console, and is completely ignoring that opportunity. Luckily this hack will make things like this possible. Can't wait until its released.

Nintendo is seriously screwed here. There is no way they can prevent their hardware from being hacked, and if too many people start hacking away, there will be less and less revenue from "official" switch software....which will put the platform in a tailspin. This is what happens when you don't give your customers what they want! All they need to do is announce that their "Virtual Console" will be available on Switch, and let people who already purchased games on it bring them over to the Switch. But they won't...because they are greedy. I actually have a picture of the CEO responding to the news of this hack:

The problem is more to do with nvidia's design allowing this to easily, very easily be done.
No disassembly, no soldering which is something I've not seen a lot of.

There is numerous hacked devices but none really matter as they are not as plain and easy, the xbox 1 is the closest and that was complex in comparison.

Apparently the latest firmware has some kind of mention of a new revision of the Switch. If Nvidia has a revision of the X1 without the flaw Nintendo could silently roll out a revision of the system making it so only systems made prior to that revision capable of using this hack.

Yes, Nintendo is greedy. Which means there is zero chance they won't have some way to buy these games on the Switch. They've said they don't want to use the VC name anymore (which is fair, the VC has been a mess from the get-go) but they never said anything about not releasing those games on the Switch. I expect them to follow a similar path to SNK/Hamsters' Arcade Archives or the upcoming Sega Ages.

It really doesn't matter who's FAULT it is...the result is what matters, and the result is that you can now hack Nintendo hardware to provide access to older titles...without Nintendo getting a dime from it. The result will be hardware sold without the revenue from the games sales to go with it...which is never a good situation. (see also, Linux on PS3) If enough people hack their switches, it will put a dent in Nintendo's bottom line, which may also lead to the Switch's premature death.

Why offer the same platform when you can charge the same users twice for the same product? Amiright?

Mhm. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo announced some kind of classic game lineup on the Switch before the end of the year under a new brand name.

Sure, and those who purchased games on older platforms will have to pay again, FOR THE SAME GAME.

PSP is super easy, as well. No soldering, just running a program from the SD card.

Yep. There is a reason I agreed with you about Nintendo being greedy. I like a lot of their games and products, but they do love to milk the hell out of their classic titles.

Which is why I won't buy into a Nintendo platform ever again. I love some of their classic games, but refuse to pay over and over and over again to keep enjoying them...especially when I can just use an emulator on my existing hardware.

They will try to sell old games at one point of another but he main point of a new plataform is new games... Thats just what consoles are I guess.

Dont understand this? You want it free? I will say, that would be cool, pay an access fee and get free old games.. but otherwise if you hsve your nes and snes console with the games you had then you have them... Which is more of what we might be saying about current gen consoles with their always connected crap.

Im not so sure... Ds/3ds has been hacked completely for a long time now.. i think they have been making money regardless

Free? If I already paid for the game, I shouldn't need to buy it over and over again? Are you confused?

No. If you brought it and kept it... Then you have still right? So you want it free on the new consoles because you have it on the nes or something? Not sure what the complaint is about. Like i have my ds games for my ds, doesn't mean i expect a free port to the switch...i would take them free of course, but Wouldn't buy it anyway.. don't get me wrong, I would LOVE each console came with free ports of previous consoles, that would be awesome! But no one does this, yes including Nintendo.

I Think the anger is over the concept of the virtual console.

If you bought an old game to play on your Wii Virtual Console(tm), it existed to play on the Wii.

If you bought a Switch, and they release the Switch Virtual Console (tm) would you still get access to those games? Probably not, you'd probably have to buy access to them again, which is stupid.

Mario Kart 8 and Breath of the Wild say what's up
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3DS says what's up
DKC Tropical Freeze says what's up
Link Between Worlds says what's up
StarFox 64 3DS says what's up
Majora's Mask 3DS says what's up
Every Virtual Console game ever says what's up

Is everyone getting it yet?

Ah, i see.. if they move to offer these games as a subscription netflix style it would be cool, and that would imply play anywhere compatible with a client and access as long as monthly payment is made. I Don't know if what they offered in the wii ever implied a longer life or residence than the wii itself. So yeah i get wanting more for sure... I never used old games in the wii though so I don't even know how they work.. did they stop working after support died for the wii?

NO, you still do not see. We aren't asking for "Netflix" style access. We are asking that WHEN WE BUY A GAME FROM NINTENDO, it is available on new hardware WITHOUT having to buy said game again. What the F*** is so difficult to understand here? THIS is why PC gaming is superior to consoles (one of the ways). If I bought a game 20 years ago, I CAN STILL PLAY IT on current hardware! WITHOUT a repurchase!

Not sure what you are freaking out about. With consoles, games are written for a specific architecture (which changes from system to system). And with nintendo specifically they also like to change the media that the game is stored on. The allure of consoles also is the simplicity which seems to become more lost as they are 'evolving' where you could just insert the game and play. I understand there are bandwidth issues with current gen systems that prevent that.

I guess the thing is, you dont have to buy anything. If I buy an apple computer I am not entitled to the apple versions of any games I purchased. You need to not think of all nintendo products as a single platform, they are not. You have to think of them as entirely different things.

I do get it very well.. even if you wanted to pay for a single game, it would still be a service type situation in order for it to be accesible in multiple plataforms... and plataform changes even if among the same company only.. when paying for the access, and you don't really own squat.. buying a single game or paying for access to a whole library but the advange is just that, as long as a client is made for whatever plataform/ hardware you could access for what you paid for, as long as the company in question is in business... And hasnt decided to pull the plug.

On steam, you absolutely are entitled to the other OS versions. I dual boot, and Rise of the Tomb Raider just became available on Linux.
On PS3/PS4 and XBOX 360/XBOX One, Cross Buy is absolutely a thing.

Nintendo should be held to a higher standard by its fans. This isn't currently happening.

Nintendo is looking to get "F'ed up the A" pretty soon with CFW being worked on and the Xecuter SX OS possibly dropping next month. Their one ticket to entice some people to stay legit, online service, was a huge bust and didn't help them at all.

Nintendo will still be supported by the fans like always though. Probably even see a surge in hardware sales soon.

I seen the NES Classic with all the games installed same with the SNES classic on ebay.

Fair point.

I really have always thought nintendo should just duck out of hardware and make games for all platforms.

I don't know why you are OK with this stance. Or are defending it? Are you a stockholder in Nintendo? This is simply unacceptable. You do NOT get to keep charging me over and over again for the same content! I refuse to keep buying into it. And I refuse to buy into Nintendo's new hardware (which has many, many issues...besides just the lack of the Virtual Console).

If YOU are fine with being milked every generation, fine. Go for it. I will game on PC and tell greedy SOBs like Nintendo to suck it...while I play the games I BOUGHT on emulators on my own damn hardware!

If steam goes under, will you still have all those games.. are they drm free, and you can make your own cds and such? Ill tell you what, i find it hard to believe pc games got any better, by the 2000s games in real life cds required required activations and shit.. i had a nice collection, one good day (years later) was going to take a trip down memory lane and proceeded to load my real life cds with real life data on it.. shit didn't work, no way of activating.. servers gone, so now what? Buy it again on steam? Is x86 a conspiracy of greed or something? Yes, i tossed everything these 'cd roms' were completely worthless. I don't buy old ports in new nintendo hardware, normally new games, if i did buy i won't expect it to work outside of the console i bought if for, unless again is a client/ account/service thing... Yeah nintendo should launch things as service, hopefully they will, i dont know how the nintendo accounts are going to work going forward.

That is the downside. Going forward all we have is a license to use the game. Like you said if steam goes under or gets bought out and the new owner wants something different, we own nothing.

He sounds like a GPP apologist

Nintendo couldn’t succeed without millions of that guy willing to buy Zelda 4 times because they get the new costume on the new system or something equally ridiculous
