Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

New Starlifter concept ship. Three variants. Big. They can carry two of the ground tanks or variable amounts of cargo depending on variant choice. Not cheap though.

Yeah, i like the look a lot. I may ccu my second Banu merchantman to the civilian version. The others are priced way to high to even consider it, for me anyway. The bomber looks really cool, but I'll just grab it in game, no reason to melt anything substantial for it.

Yeah it looks fantastic. I wont bother buying one though because I'm more interested in the ships you can fly solo more than having a crew but that's just me. Plus like you said the dang thing is expensive.

Agreed, love the looks and options but don't have enough friends committed right now to make it worth while and that seems like something that would be a lot more fun with a human vs AI crew.

Good bye Caterpillar and Nox 2-pack, hello C2 Hercules CCU (CCUing my Pirate Caterpillar) :-(

As long as the pirate skin is available in game you'll be able to just replace it later so it's a decent trade up.

I really need to see what further plans they have for ground based gameplay 'cause the Herc seems mainly geared for that with the "Mother of all bombs" blurb and its tank/vehicle deployment ability.

If the cargo bay of the Polaris is large enough to house a Tank it would be nice cause it already has a 1 ship hangar making it literally a mini Idris and perfect to use for shakedown with the org crew before using the Idris.

Parked my hornet over Yela's OM-3 and went EVA (about 2 kilometers away) to take some pictures when I captured some combat nearby.

Hercules is an interesting ship, but feels pretty overpriced - more info on its interior and other functions split between the varying models would help Am I correct that right now, until May 11th, only those invited to the Early Access event (ie VIP/Concierge...maybe Subscribers?) can see the Hercules and after that is when everyone has access? Or was the VIP portion only for the first couple of days, and the Herc is only available until the 11th entirely?

I have to admit however that I'm nonplussed by the way they've moved forward with it in terms of policy - and from the comments most of the other Concierge and others who can see it feel the same way. Warbond versions that are a LITTLE cheaper? That's fine with me. However, LTI on a concept, $400+ ship no less being ONLY for Warbond? Not okay. Additional bonus vehicles (also with LTI) only for Warbond? Not okay. The bonus of Warbond to be a moderate savings is understandable, but I don't like this new 2018 direction where there is more and more exclusivity (note the Emerald Phoenix not being a skin but a whole different ship, for instance) - the packages should not significantly differ, there shouldn't be different in-game widgets, nor especially LTI differences. LTI is grating because sometime iti s being downplayed as a minor bonus, but using it in this regard to sell ships sends the opposing message - and that's to say nothing that this is a breach of the concept ship sale plan document that concepts will always include LTI.

Worse I can't really understand how this will be more profitable - after all, the hardcore players who would use store credit in some portion here, would be likely to continue spending because of their ability to melt. I have zer issue with the long arc of development so long as I see progress, but in the past one element to make that easier has been the essential ability to change/buy/"turn in" ships so to speak. Things change, new ships that are interesting, but players could generally feel they would not be treated as "lesser" because they used store credit or whatnot in terms of package contents. Warbond is fine as a discount, but especially given that even using a single dollar of store credit disqualifies you from Warbond, it really creates a rift to have wildly varying packages. LTI should be returned no question and the other changes I described above should be implemented, but I think they could actually do even better if they opened up Warbond pricing as an incentive - by allowing some use of store credit. For instance if at least 25% - 50% (depending on ship) of the amount is in new funding players could qualify for Warbond pricing. I can see how this would encourage people to spend something new if that's their intent, all without making anyone feel lesser and in fact probably lead to more sales volume overall!

There are some other issues of frustration as well and I don't want to see them go down the wrong path as time goes on, changing from the open-handed policies that made them such a success in the first place. I'll need to have a talk with someone - its too bad one particularly response CSR is no longer there (she did not leave because of dissatisfaction with the company, but rather to move along with her significant other if I recall).

LTI for cash only pledges is their way of rewarding people who support ongoing development. Melting ships and reshuffling store credits to get another isn't worth much to them.
Also the value of LTI continues to be overblown when they've repeatedly told us that you'll likely never lose any ship bought with cash. Worst case scenario is you'll just have a longer respawn timer to wait if you can't afford to pay the insurance fees

It's a good business decision from the company perspective (incentivizes new money), but a bad one from the consumer perspective (devalues old money). In the past, most of the business decisions have benefited the customers; this isn't one of them however and it shows a more aggressive business move, which isn't a good direction for the customer.

It's kind of like this: You put money into an investment bank and start trading. Lets say they give normal discounts on their new-buy investments and they're giving you a bonus for being a new member. "Cool, these guys are alright.", you're thinking. Well a few years later, the policy changes; new members still get that bonus for joining, but now only they get what use to be normal discounts for the first few years and it's being removed for everyone that's been a member. New investors are thinking "Hey, cool.", but investors with their money already in the bank are thinking "Wtf? My money isn't good enough anymore?". The bank is completely within their right to make that change, but prior customers feel like their money's been devalued because they're no longer getting that discount perk.

There's a history to this too. There wasn't supposed to be any LTI handouts beyond the initial kickstart, but that stance was reversed due to customer popularity and being a boon to sales. The only people adamantly opposed were collectors; over all, the decision benefited the customer and the company. Later on, the ability to bring in new money with concept sales slowed down, because they were being bought on store credit or credit-discounted; this spurred the creation of war-bond (heavily discounted) concepts that were released along side standard concepts, but only attainable with new money (no credit). This was a good idea, because it incentivized purchasing new concepts with new money by giving something (a substantial discount). The new move of locking a bonus (LTI) that has been part of all new concepts for a long time to an option that requires a new contribution, only benefits the company and gives nothing back to the customer, while also making more invested customers feeling neglected. It's an aggressive business move that's making a lot of older backers ask questions and become hesitant, many the type of which you would not want asking for refunds.

Another problem is that the announcement of the move was very brief, without (reasonable) explanation, and basically displayed as fine-print. There was no "Hey everyone! This is what's going on.", it came off as "oh yeah, this happened... BTW, CHECK THAT OUT INSTEAD!!".

The ground aspect has a lot of awesome potential but I hope they put it off for a little while as with tanks and such we would need destructible outposts and cities for things to feel like they fit properly in the verse. The herc is an awesome ship and bombing runs with other planetary vessels seems like a fun way to maximize usage of some of the existing ships that may not be top dog in space but since they are aerodynamic they may suddenly become a top performer in the atmosphere. AA and other land systems fighting back against the ships also sounds like a blast and harps back on the initial drop ships.

But I feel that would be a huge undertaking to really focus on now when they need to keep on their current vein and let it run its course before they diverge assets across more pipelines. Once space and roles are in place and more ready for a beta it would make more sense to bring more devs together to figure out how the land aspect would fit into it all better.

Looking forward to it integrating in. Just not yet :)

We're probably gonna end up in a situation where stuff like building player owned outposts is implemented BEFORE making them destructible so naturally factions will form around defending those outposts and others trying to take them over. I personally would perfer them to be permanent/indestructible 'cause the amount of effort/resources/coordination to get them built is going to be pretty significant. Also making buildings destructible would open the game up to a lot of exploits/griefing, imagine people picking up a delivery mission but instead of picking up the item they destroy the outpost thereby preventing others from doing any missions related to that outpost. Or they just go around destroying outposts wholesale.

Another thing is if you hire someone with a Pioneer to build you an outpost they will know where your outpost is located which means they'll have a pretty big conflict of interest in their hands. At any time down the road they can turn around and sell that info to whoever has a beef with you for even more profit. And likewise the people whom the outpost was built for can put a bounty on the head of the builder if the location is ever revealed.

Yeah going to be interesting. I wonder if they could do destructible and then you can file an insurance claim to get it back similar to a ship as well as letting you work to repair aspects of it. Otherwise having a bomber and such seems somewhat limited if they just lock down the airlocks and hide inside.

Partially why I hope they leave it alone until much farther along so it can be fit in properly.

+7 years to dev work, +5 years alpha testing. Release date pushed back to 2034. Early testing to begin as soon as 2025.

LOL.....so they turn up their nose at all of the backers that have supported CIG over the years to the tune of $180+ million?

Do you guys even think before you parrot CIG's BS?

They can't think. If they start thinking they might realize we're over 5 years in and probably 150 million spent and all we've got so far is a tech demo with very little actual game attached to it that runs at 15 FPS most of the time despite having segregated servers with relatively very few people on them.

Every year since 2015 I been hearing "now they've got the basics all ready to go they'll really start ramping up adding the content to the game!"

And every year I look and the "basics" still don't work right and they've added barely any content.

I read this it was just so funny I had to share :D

If Star Citizen was a person, it'd be a 55 year old man named Nigel.

Nigel wears an ill-fited 2000$ dollar Giorgio Armani suit. Every day he tugs and pulls at the seams trying to make it fit. Eventually, when the suit tears from the strain, Nigel throws in in the trash and buys another one, once again forgetting to get it fit.
At a dinner date, Nigel entertains his partner with long meticulous stories about the beauty and detail of corrugated cardboard, instead of small talk or common interests. Midway through, Nigel has a panic attack and poops himself, then spends the remainder of the night explaining how it really isn't his fault, that he's only been in the dating game for five years, and two of those years don't reaaaallly count, since he spent them "researching dating".
At the end of the night, wanting to make a good impression, Nigel shows his date his 9.000 $ dollar Rolex watch:
-"Yeah, my friends wire me money every month hoping desperately it will help me get laid. Is that weird ?"
Right then, Giorgio Armani busts through the restaurant and begins brutally kicking Nigel's ass, screaming:
-"HOW DO YOU FUCK UP WEARING A SUIT??!!!" "PEOPLE AREN'T BUYING OUR SUITS ANYMORE AFTER SEEING YOU!!!" "WHY DO YOU EXIST!!!!"
Outside , Nigel's friends , who have witnessed the whole affair, are now furiously trying to direct curious onlookers away:
"Move along people, nothing to see here. " "Don't talk if you don't know the full story" "What, how do your dates go?"
Two weeks later, Nigel is a broken man, both physically and mentally , paralyzed from his Giorgio-inflicted injuries.
"Where did I go wrong?. I was better then everyone...."

Because we want a game, not a tech demo. You seem to be satisfied with only the Tech Demo, massive pile of bugs and all.

We wouldn't post in this thread if we didn't hope the game would some day be released by competent management. Unfortunately,, as long as Nigel is at-the-helm, every new feature update will come with it a long line of game-breaking bugs that take an inordinately long amount of time to fix. In almost any other successful game company MOST OF THESE BUGS should have been caught by a properly-trained and managed software review team and internal test team before release to the public.

I would be happy to repost the Bugpcapocalypse from the other thread if you need further convincing.

Under current management the game will release with a TENTH of the original Kickstarter goals, and will take until 2035 to be "ready".

Not satisfied, but patient. They are showing us the underbelly of large game development, both in the money raising that you hate, and the code generation and constant bugfixing that I'm interested in. As far as the Bugpcapocalypse, Somehow I miss most of them. I have an old Sandy bridge hexcore w/ a first gen 1080, and a new Ryzen 1700 with a 1080Ti, and both play it well enough. Yes there are problems- Netcode being one of the biggest I see, but maybe it's my belief that this might be Warframe. That started borderline trash, but with a lot of heart and plans. Now it's great and people forget that it was just line every MMO- terrible issues at launch and then a cool product racing for release before the populace leaves. Either way, less salt would be appreciated. (edited because the flavor of chip I'm eating sounds inflammatory)

Why are we being told to be patient regarding a game that's almost 4 years late and yet is somehow still in the early alpha stage and years away from completion?

I genuinely don't think this project started as a scam, but it's entering that territory now. I just don't see how they can deliver even a fraction of what they've provided based on what they've shown so far.

fraction is delivered, it even has roadmap now

I agree it took them too long to get to this point but at least now they are making much better progress.

I haven't been in this thread much. Came back today to find out it's still the same. Mostly people talking about trading in their entire fleet for the next, new ship. And haters. Not sure why the haters don't just walk away, but whatever.

A slice of the bounty hunter life

Tracked a fugitive holed up somewhere on Daymar
byPL9r3.jpg

Found him hiding a few kilometers from Shubin's mining outpost. I didn't take the chance and took him out with my ship.
0FWVK3I.jpg

No sooner I was done inspecting his body and mobi for any useful info regarding accomplices that I got a job alert from Eckhart

cO39NHN.jpg

Made my way out of Daymar to meet with Eckhart at Levski
vvuSQaZ.jpg

He needed help retrieving some stolen goods for a client. I accepted and set out to find my target that was last seen near Yela. I switched to my trusty old Cutlass Black and left the Super Hornet in the shop at Levski for repairs. Their mechanics are top notch when it comes to ships but somehow they can't fix elevators if their lives depended on it.

Arrived at Yela near the coordinates where the target was last detected.

Caught his trail and found him hiding on the dark side of the moon.

He put up a fight spamming all his missiles but I made quick work of him.

Parked the ship near the wreckage and EVA'd to retrieve the stolen cargo.

Stor-All cargo crates are known for their toughness being able to survive a ship exploding all around them and even atmospheric re-entry down to the surface.

Headed back to the ship quickly. I'm really looking forward to being able to create a service beacon so that an org mate or friend can come salvage the wreckage left behind.

Shortly after grabbing the crate the delivery destination was beamed over to my mobi and updated on my HUD

Placed the box on the ship's cargo grid...

With the credits earned I treated myself to one of those shiny new Gemini ballistic shotguns. They were on sale at Grim Hex (probably black market but I didn't mind).

I stop in every six months or so. I think a lot of people can’t help expressing their disgust that have invested money. I have $100 towards this game and it feels like each time I stop in hoping it’s playable I find out it’s more messed up than ever.

Yeah the Bucc can tear you to shreds if you come at it head on, that's the power of 6 ballistic guns. The Mustang does something similar and because it's the military Delta variant it spams dumbfire missiles at you but you can greatly mitigate that by switching to chaff and throwing a couple salvos of those as it starts firing and its missiles either miss or detonate before they reach you.

Grav lev fixes/improvements in the latest PTU patch have made flying hoverbikes amazing. I specially like the crash recovery system, borrowed from what's already available on our ships and adapted to the hoverbikes all you have to do in the event of a crash is let go of the controls and it will return you to your original heading and speed before you crashed.

The system does have its limits tho, at around 6 minutes I gun the afterburner and accelerate to 100m/s and the gravlev raycasting struggles to keep up and I crash/explode on a low rock which would've been avoided had I been going at regular cruise speeds. It does add an element of finesse which I love.

Thanks for sharing that mission and pics Lorien. I found it interesting and entertaining.

Ditto- you make me wish I had more time per day, so I could get on SC enough to get good.

Laughing at this steaming pile of Chris Robberts incompetence is what makes me happy.

Your rig? Should be able to play it fine, as long as you are not at 4K. I have a Ryzen 1700 and 1080Ti and it's good at 1440p.

lol. You got the effective top of the line graphics card but it's only good up to what amounts to medium Res now.
