I have the oculus go and it says not to use while charging and not to use an external battery. I don't understand the no external battery deal. It has the same exact power output 5v 2.1 amp as the supplied ac adaptor, why would it matter?Internet scattered infor indicates you can use it while charging. John Carmack indicated it worked fine charging while being used but had a really short cable might be an issue?
Is this oculus just be cautous? Worried about the battery overheating and exploding? Or maybe shorting battery life? Doesn't make sense to me...

I've been seeing people use it with battery packs. I'd guess that it probably isn't a big issue other than possible heat. High GPU use while charging might hit the thermal design limits. I don't see it being a problem for just media consumption though.

They're just being cautious about overheating, there's no technical reason it won't work plugged in or with external battery.

That is becoming my take also. And wouldn't someone feel the heat in time to remove the headset?

I've Oculus Go too. I've brought it few months ago. Till now I'm enjoying it now. As for your question, I would say that it does not matter at all. It's just a hype, I had a deep research about it and as it seems, it's not a problem. I've used it once while charging, so no probz at all

I've charged it while using it many times. I have 112 apps on my Oculus account. In my experience, only Bigscreen is poorly optimized enough to heat the unit to uncomfortable temperatures. I wouldn't charge while using Bigscreen.
