I've watched a lot of Agony videos and so far have seen no gameplay, just a horror themed narrative.

.

These games remind me very much of Hellblade in terms of game play. I had high hopes when Hellblade was released but it turned out to be (mostly) a walking sim. Got bored with it about a quarter of the way in, have no intentions of playing it again any time soon. I have a feeling these will be no different. Maybe OK for VR but for actual game play I'm getting a heavy "meh" feeling.

I thought Hellblade was excellent - had a decent mix of combat, puzzle solving and walking. Not to mention it was only a $30 game.

In any case, this game looks to me more like a survival horror where you hide from things trying to get you, ala Amnesia or Alien: Isolation.

If it is more like Alien Isolation then I'll probably enjoy it- really liked A:A

its coming out for consoles, and there are fairly strict limitations as to what they can show on consoles. Thus the alterations. Steam.... also dislikes anything pornish. Some japanese games have different images for this market (and can be changed via patch)

Japanese PC gaming is really almost entirely about porn games and dating simulators.

so the game is finished they're just going back to remove all the hardcore NC-17 stuff?

From the information I've gathered it seems there was only one scene in particular that drew the ire of the ESRB, and all the developer had to do was change the camera angles. PC version will get a patch to restore the original vision post facto according to the developer, so we'll be able to see exactly what they needed to change to get published on the consoles.

I assume this is still VR as well and we still don't know the release date

UPDATE:
You’ve been tortured for countless days, not being able to get out of the Hell. But finally! The salvation day is coming soon, so save your strengths and be prepared for the slightest chance of escaping the horrors of the past and solve the riddle behind the mysterious Red Goddess!

I’m coming back to you straight from the Hellish Grounds to confirm that Agony will see a simultaneous release for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 29th, 2018! Just don’t party too hard out there! Remember that Succubus will react to any sound you’ll make, so it would be foolish to give away your position just before the window of freedom opens…

As someone who has read The Divine Comedy multiple times and is still a huge fan of Clive Barkers first two Hellraiser films, I'M GOD DAMN PSYCHED FOR THIS!!!!

Story trailer...

hopefully gameplay is good and it's not all about shock value...

Hmm...looks interesting. Based on that trailer it seems less like a "run and hide simulator" and more like an actual survival horror a la Resident Evil or something.

Something tells me this is just going to be shock value with some TNA and VERY little substance / actual "fun".

The trailer is very NSFW, so don't play this at work. Embedding the video gets around the age gate, so be careful.

You're just tempering your expectations based on how the industry has acted with kids' fingers up to this point and treated sex and gore like jokes. I think this game is just the first to do a real adult horror and I am very excited to see how the game tells its story through the gameplay.

Well I also haven't really seen anything to make me believe the gameplay will be engaging enough for ME personally. It looks like you're just running around trying to survive and getting hit with some jumpy scares along the way. RE7 wasn't really my cup of tea, either. Maybe this category of games just isn't for me, who knows. But I do want to see some real gameplay and reviews once it's out.

So based on early impressions, what would you guys be willing to pay for the game?

Admittedly I haven't watched any of the gameplay yet, so I don't quite know what to make of it. Right now I'm not sure if this is a $30 insta-buy or a "wait til it's $4.99 on sale" type of game. It looks cool but hopefully the game really draws me in with story and/or gameplay. If it's grotesquely, horrifically disturbing...even better. :sneaky: :vamp:

I backed it based on the original trailers and will be looking forward to playing it.

It's cheap on CD keys like 23.00
I'm actually thinking Scorn is going to be better.

Ooh, I think I've seen that somewhere before and just kinda forgot about it. It does look like it could be awesome (based purely on the screenshots).

Added to my Steam wishlist and will keep an eye on it, in addition to this game. Thanks!

I guess after watching multiple trailers I still do not get the point of the game.

I think it's pretty obvious that it's a walking simulator. I believe the trailers are confusing because they are obfuscating what type of game the game is.

the trailers don't really do a good job of selling the game...they just keep showing a bunch of random gory scenes with a bunch of nudity...I'm thinking they are expecting that to be the main selling point

Yea I think you're right.

Seen a few gameplay vids out there and they're interesting. It's kind of alike a bad acid trip through the red-light district of Reno during after-hours while trying to avoid door-fees/muggers, so I'll keep an eye open, haha.

It was supposed to be a VR scare the shit out of you sort of game. Think a really gory Penumbra or Machine For Pigs with nudity and VR.

It's not like those types of games are bad, just might not be your cup of tea.

I'm a big horror fan in movies and games but gore and nudity for the sake of being NC-17 without any story or gameplay to back it up would not do it for me...I'll keep an eye out for reviews once its released and see what people think...the videos released thus far are just seizure inducing quick flashes of gore and nudity...

Not all the videos are like that. The trailers are like that, the game play ones are not.

So do you all think this game will be $30 or $40? Does it make sense to grab it from cdkeys for $23 before it releases Tuesday?

A few Germans are streaming this game on you tube already maybe Twitch as well it looks too puzzle orientated.

LOL nice.... I still won't get the game I don't care how much nudity is in the game.

Yeah I don't know what to think of this game. It gets played for gory shock value but it doesn't enforce it like a good dungeon would. Let alone a place I want to visit.
