Canon 28mm f/2.8 IS - $400 $375 $350 $340

This is one of my favorite lenses on the Canon system. 28mm is a unique focal length that is wider than 35mm, but doesn't suffer from the extreme distortion that 24mm or 21mm does. I would say then, that this is a sweet spot wide angle lens for a number of different purposes (from landscape/architecture, to street, as well as general purpose and video).
It does notably well also with video work, with built in IS. And because like I mentioned has much less distortion than wider lenses, does well with a variety of subjects in video as well.
F/2.8 is plenty for most light situations, including indoors. When accounting for Canon's newer modern sensor tech. And the lens is nice and sharp wide open.

The lens is in like new condition. I am the original owner. It has recently been serviced by CPS (Canon Professional Services) in Costa Mesa. The documentation for the service will be provided, including of course being able to match the serial number. All functions have been checked. And it has been professionally cleaned. It is still inside the plastic that CPS return the lenses in. The prospective buyer can open it and inspect it and test it for themselves.

It comes with:
-The lens.
-The original box (as well as the contents of the box. Paperwork etc. I never bothered to "register" the lens).
-A B+W 010M UV Haze Filter (which isn't cheap).
-An "upgraded" Canon pinch lens cap (E-58II), which is far nicer than the non-pinch caps.
-Canon Rear Cap (obviously, but no knock offs here).

As an eBay Associate, HardForum may earn from qualifying purchases.
As a photographer I appreciate the honest descriptions. I would make an offer on the 85 but just sunk some mondo cash in another photo project so I can't bid

Price drops on everything, although it's unlikely that people will notice until tomorrow during the day.

Bump!

Bump! Switching to Sony?

And yes. Canon just doesn’t offer a compelling hybrid system. I don’t have the time to wait another year. And I can’t afford their systems that would do what I need.

If I was a stills only shooter, I’d stay on Canon. They’re still the best at it from a systems perspective.

Haven't been bumping as much here lately. I'm guessing this is all going to eBay where it will sell.

I am in the process of switching myself. Being OCD, I hate using lens adaptors but I also hate the idea of having to buy all new glass / accessories for the new setup. Bump for a fellow shutterbug!

After lunch bump! Sort of the last series of bumps before eBay. I'll probably list with a BIN for more than it is here... as the market is much bigger and... well fees.

There are certain lenses I'm keeping. Which is sort of apparent by the lack of lenses that I'm selling. Sony doesn't make a really good 50mm. The 50mm f/1.4 Planar isn't particularly great and neither is the Sony f/1.8 (although it's great for the price). Their best is really the Zeiss 55mm f/1.8. I'm keeping my Canon 50mm f/1.2L. In terms of rendering, it's by far my favorite. It definitely has the best boké, falloff, color, contrast, with the right level of sharpness throughout (in my opinion anyway). I wouldn't give up its characteristics for something that is "purely sharper" or has "better resolution" like say the Sigma f/1.4 Art. And I don't imagine I'll change that lens any time soon (unless Canon brings back a new f/1.0 IS with a new optical formula).

I've been shooting a lot with the Canon 35mm f/2 IS also, and I'm not sure I want to give it up for Sony's f/1.8. But the Sony 28mm f/2 and 85mm f/1.8 I do want, so I'm making the move on those. I have considered the 85mm 1.4GM or even the Canon 85mm f/1.4 IS, but I'm not sure I want to spend that much more money right now for in reality, marginal improvement. The GM and the Canon IS though are both really fantastic lenses. It's odd to me how Sony has some really incredible lenses on their system and then some real duds.

The 16-35mm f/2.8 GM is fantastic... but their midrange 24-70mm f/2.8 GM isn't. The same as you'll note above, that the 50mm Planar isn't great, but their 85mm GM is really good. The long and the short is: I'm not going to let the system determine my lens choices, especially on a system that allows me to use virtually whatever I want. I'll pick the best from the system and use lenses from other systems to fill in the gaps. I'm too practical to want to only use Sony lenses, when there are better offerings I already own.

I realize most of this stuff won't move on this forum, but still putting through bumps. Basically everything so far has sold elsewhere, but who knows, maybe there are a few Hard|Photogs that need some solid pieces of gear.

I would say everything I got was "bought well". That is to say, really solid tools that have a purpose and can be virtually universally useful. And these last few items I think reflect that.
