Samsung 970 and 980 NVMe coming soon

Here are a couple decent videos

NVMe SSD Review - Which Should You Buy? - 2017 Edition

All It Takes to Upgrade Your Computer: the Samsung 960 PRO

Any specs? And are they going to release both the 970 and 980 at the same time? (or is it likely to be 970 and 970nvme)?

I looks like they are skipping the evo/pro naming this time and going straight numbers instead? (970 = evo, 980 = pro)

So no 980? 970Pro will be the high end? sad to see no 970 Pro 2tb.

Performance for the 970 looks like a wash with the 960...

If I needed one, I'll buy whichever is cheaper.

Skip to 8:45-10:30 for the differences between the 960 Evo vs Pro for a recap to compare to the new 970.

250g Evo = 2 GPS for the 1st 13g (x2 larger size doubles boost - 500g is 26g, 1T is 52g) and then it drops way down to 300 MBPS (worse than SATA at 500 MB)

"if you try to write a hundred gigabytes to this 500 gig 960 Evo for the first 26 of it it will run it 2 gigabytes per second and then it will slow down to 300 the 960 Pro will maintain 2 gigabytes per second for the entire drive that's what you're paying for."

I'm curious what the differences will be with the 970 and 980. The Evo slowing all the way down to just 300MB SATA speeds is just terrible and pretty much ruins it for me but, that quickness boost is short lived yet faster than the Pro so, it puts many in a bind. I hope the 970 & 980 are greatly improved in that regard. I'll need to see the benchmark testing reviews on it - I just hope the reviewer is smart enough to sus this issue out.

After 7 minutes in they compare NVMe ssd performance Intel vs AMD and it appears that AMD is considerably slower so, I hope H-OCP stick a pin in that and do some testing - say Z370 vs X470 NVMe performance comparison.

I noticed you can finally pre-order on the Samsung Website. That is for the 970's

Decided to pick up a 250gb evo from B&H to use as an OS/apps drive. My 850 evo will be transitioning to a Steam dive. I figure 250gb is plenty as long as I keep games off of it.

Alright, MSRP price drop from $630 to $499 + work/student discount + free game.. I jumped on a new drive! Had the SM961 when it came out for $490 but it died about a month into use, time to give it another go...

$499
-$75 Discount
+/- $59 (Free) Farcry 5 Copy
+Tax

So I just picked up an 970 Pro About $459 out the door with Far Cry included! :woot:

Where do you go to get the coupon?

EDIT: Found the 20% off. Guess you're talking about that one?

PS - Got the 970 EVO 1TB for $356 shipped, and I'm selling a copy of farcry 5.

How to get the discount?

Yeah, Unidays should work too, I have that and a discount through my companies site. Yay for working students...

Still want to pick up a 860 Pro and Evo to match my 850 Pro/Evo. Thinking they'll have good sales by Black Friday.

Want to ditch more of my mechanical drives.

My original WD Raptor can finally go into storage.

About the only upgrade I can do as CPU and video cards have stagnated.

Thanks, i'm not sure how unidays work. Is it free to join and what's the requirenent? I'm asume you just sign up and get the code ,order at samsung.com

Have to have a .edu email that can be verified, then you link to samsung via their portal and log into your Samsung account.

Nice! Happy to see it worked for you, would have been an even better deal without tax sigh. Still way better thank the $630+ that they wanted a few days back.

Nice, have they send you the far cry code yet? My 970 pro is shipped , but haven't got the far cry code.

There’s a FarCry code? LOL! I want my FarCry code!

Does it matter where you ordered from? I ordered mine from B&H. Didn’t see anything about FC code, but now I want it.

Im looking to get a 980Pro to replace the 950Pro in my system and move it over to another machine.

Fresh install. Installed several drivers including the Samsung nvme. Are there any bios settings to mess with? This is my first nvme. Using Asus Maximus x hero z370.
