God of War 4

Quick question..

Is there any nudity or sex in this one like in the past??

Just started playing it as I bought the ps4 pro God of war edition console and trying not to play it in front of my kids.

A guy I work with asked me the same thing. I'm probably halfwayish' and I told him it didn't fit with the narrative at all.

I mean, if you're talking about kids, it still is a pretty brutal game with some graphic violence, especially some of the finishers.

Not really. This is a lot tamer compared to the old GoW games. No slowly ripping a dudes head off or ripping the eye out of a cyclops. I pretty much completed the game and can say there is 0 nudity. Not even a statue or painting that I seen.

There are plenty of moves ripping enemies in half, ripping the front of their skin off, chopping a creature's face in half, etc.

Less blood spray in general, but it's still pretty violent.

God of War is my favorite series on the ps4 period.. was the whole reason why I bought a PS4 Pro (God of War edition) to experience the game at its best possable.

I don't even think Sony anticipated the title selling this well...I didn't think anything could touch Horizon Zero Dawn...another win for Sony and the PS4...their exclusives are amazing

As I have progressed further, the game has DEFINITELY gotten tougher. The normal plot path isn't too tough, but the trials and Valkyries certainly are. In some instances they're Dark Souls level tough, although some of that might relate to when I'm trying to fight them.
This is the best game I've played in a while. Maybe even since Dark Souls 3.

I don't think that they are that bad. I one shot 4/8 when that had blue life bars. The queen while having a yellow life bar curb stomps me tho lol. She really not that bad. Just seems like she has a shit ton more life and I can't out last her.

I'm impressed. Solid gameplay, top flight production values, good story with some heart... no real complaints to speak of.

This isn't an easy game (for me... I'm playing on normal difficulty) and I'm sure it's going to get harder so we'll see how I handle it. ;)

My PS4 has received a lot more game time over the past 6 months than my PC...that says a lot. It's also been used consistently pretty much since launch.
Yup, same.

Which bothers me some, since my 1080ti was $600+... lol.

PS exclusives are just that damn good.

This year I've played way more on my PS4. Part of it is due to getting through my backlog (Last Guardian, Horizon Zero Dawn, FFXV), but a lot of it is simply due to the plethora of amazing exclusives that have come out.

I just finished off my platinum for God of War by narrowly beating Siggurd (many thanks to the infinity gauntlet). Now I just wish there was more to do in the game. The wait for the inevitable sequel is going to be painful.

I think when you are in front of your PC all the time you just need to escape the PC so you resort to a console.
I used to play Destiny 1 thought I was getting a treat but I knew all the good stuff was on the Steam account or Origin or UBI.

If you play with a controller I mean I have 5 this gen X2 PS4 and X2 Elites and X1 X-ONE console controller with a long cord to break up the Steam monotony.

I hope they release some DLC for it. This from a guy that hates DLC. They still got a couple of realms lock but could be saving them for the sexual. I am sure Asgard will be for the sequel.

I'm noticing that they're very level dependent. The whole game seems to be. I get that leveling up boosts certain stats, but it's almost like a quantum leap between level 3 and 5. At level 3 it took me like 10 minutes of running around and spamming arrows/short combos to kill a pair of level 7 wolfmen. I could take all of 1-2 hits from them, too. At level 5 I can take 5'ish hits (depending on the attack) and can pretty much just spam light attack with the blades until they die in 20'ish seconds. The game will let you kill overpowered enemies, but I think it puts an artificial additional difficulty barrier in there, too. The Valkyries are similarly damaging and damage resistant if you go in at a lower level.

Well I am level 8 and having hard time beating the queen. She like goes berserk after 50% and stomps a mud hole in me. Only thing thing in this game that gave me any trouble.

The only thing I can recommend (other than just learning her move animations) is to get the Infinity Gauntlet. Socket it with the right gems and use it to stun her for a few seconds which will allow you to reorient yourself or pick up some health stones.

Infinity Gauntlet: https://www.polygon.com/god-of-war-...nfinity-war-thanos-shattered-gauntlet-of-ages

It's not going to make the fight a cakewalk, but it might give you that extra edge you need. Sometimes you just get back luck with her combos. If she blinds you then does her arial flip that wipes out 50% of your HP there's almost no way to counter it other than a very lucky axe throw.

I got the gauntlet and didn't help much. If you talking about the Ariel slam she does with the scythe you can stop it with shock arrows. I got her to like 1/4 health after the first couple times then haven't got close since lol.

I do mean the Arial Slam - but only when she blinds you. I suppose you could just spam shock arrows when she blinds you, unless there's some audio cue that I wasn't listening for.

The difficulty level of this game still throws me off...how high of a level do you have to be where Valkyries are not a huge PITA? I beat the first one after several tries, but the next one I found (can't remember the name) just facerolls me every time.

Same with some of the Travellers around...it's not so much that they do a ton of damage, because I can learn their moves and dodge. The problem is you do so little damage that you are expected to have perfect dodging for like 10-15 minutes while you slowly whittle them down.

I say level 6 the Valkyries become a lot easier. I stomping a hole in them when I got to level 8. Queen still a bitch at 8 tho.

Gotcha...I think I am level 5 currently. So is the best thing to just push through the main storyline then?

That's what I ended up doing. Proceed with the normal storyline and major sidequests. I also found the Valkyries unbearable at levels 3 and 4. I beat 3 of them but they drawn-out wars full of spam and even a little luck.
If you have access to the fire trials or poison mist areas, both have supplies that can help you get stronger without too much trouble. The mist area especially.
The normal storyline tends to be geared for people that don't grind, so you won't encounter anything as tough as a Valkyrie. Valkyries and the later trials are where most of the challenge lies.

Nice...yeah, I am just now checking out the fire area (Musphelheim?), and so far the trials are not too crazy. I have access to Niflheim as well but haven't gone there yet. I did go back and light the braziers and beat the Travelers that I wasn't able to before. The enchantment you get is a little bit helpful against Valkyries.

I did the first 4 fire trials at level 3 and that's where I hit a wall. I'm at level 7 now, so I bet I can do the others. With Niflheim, you can gain access to a really strong piece of chest armor after maybe 15-minutes of effort. The other stuff is more of a grind. If you haven't done all of the dragon quests, you get a solid full set of armor for finishing those. The last one is a pretty long-ish quest but the first two aren't that bad.

One of the best tricks for getting a leg up on the Valkyries is to spam them like mad right as the fight begins. Run at them and use your light runic immediately. Hit them with 3-4 shots then use your heavy one and repeat. While that's going on, spam yellow arrows and follow up with Atreus' runic ability. You can probably take off a solid 20-25% of their life before they even get a chance to move. The Spartan rage boulder toss ability (L2) also hurts them a lot. If you land 4 of those shots, that's about 40% of their life. That's pretty much the only way you can win at lower levels. At least without being way better than I am.

I haven't found the last dragon yet. I have a quest to meet one of the dwarfs at some sort of place down near the witch's hut, but I can't figure out how the hell to get there. I wish the map in this game was a bit better, you can't really zoom in that much and the paths you have to take to get certain places can be a bit convoluted. It's not an issue with the main quest, since it shows you where to go, but you apparently can't waypoint other quests, which is kind of silly.

Non spoiler type dumb question:

I just hit Alfheim. I had a lot of things I hadn't finished in Midgard. Will I be able to get back there at some point?

Also: Will I be able to return to the Witch in the Woods area because she had some areas in a cave outside that I had no way of accessing to when I was first there.

Thanks.
