I had the older Unifi outdoor AP mounted outside. The sip ties that held it in place dies (maybe an eagle or something tried to sit on it?) and it was hanging upside down. Then it rained and the thing filled with water. Then it died. I need a replacement. I can't seem to find the same model on Amazon, which is a drag because it was basically exactly what I need. Any recommendations? I don't care about crazy fast speeds because this is basically only for phones doing simple things. Everything that matters here is wired. My phone doesn't even have an AC radio.

Have to make sure you get UV-rated zip ties for outdoor use. They get really brittle really fast outside if they aren't.

Maybe this thing?

I can't even tell if it's POE. There is little information on the Amazon page for it and the Ubiquiti page absolutely sucks. It's 100% marketing bull shit and almost no technical information. I want to know what the fucking product is. I don't want to see a bunch of full page animations of Mediterranean villages. Once the folks down in marketing at Ubiquiti are done patting themselves on the back maybe I can find a good outdoor AP.

Yeah. Lesson learned. Never really thought about zip ties and UV ratings before.

It's not terribly hard to find the datasheet for that AP. Link

It is rated outdoor, might be wise to put it somewhere that doesn't get a whole lot of direct exposure, especially to rain, but none-the-less it says outdoor.

The datasheet says you can use the PoE injector that nearly all Unifi ap's come with, or it supports 802.3af Alternative A, whatever that is.

I got the one I linked to previously. It works well. One question for anyone though: The antennas can bend. They are hinged. What's the point of this? Does pointing them in a particular direction make the AP more directional?

Generally, you want the antenna to be as close to vertical as possible to cover the greatest amount of surface area. This is especially important for higher-gain antennas, which sacrifice signal coverage parallel to the antenna in favor of that on a plane perpendicular to it.
