Hotly anticipated and long awaited ... The
Radeon RX Vega 64 8gb Prototype !!!

I contacted the seller for clearer photos of that sticker on the back and also asked how he knows it's Prototype, etc.

The Yellow Sticker does seem to be indicative of an ES / Engineering Sample, here's a close up from videocardz site of a RX 580:

I don't get it. I thought Vega 64 has been out in a while? Also, the dust in that cooler...

Here is the picture. I had recived it from an AMD employee, they were off-loading some equipmemt to make room for new items.

“Artifacts when pushed” listed in the Description. Probably means the card just artifacts most of the time.

Prototypes of old cards pull in money because of the nostalgia. I wouldn't even look at this twice.

Legit. I have a bunch of older Radeons from the HardOCP giveaway (various 6xxx and 7xxx models) that are all engineering samples.
All passed FurMark, and seem to work normally with the latest drivers.

Sure if you want to “collect” an extremely dirty non working prototype that appears to have no outstanding features.

And what does a VooDoo5 6000 nonworking card go for these days? Ask Gary (gdonovan). Sure it is a bit different since those were never released but, still, most people would have thought those were not collectible or worth anything either at one point in time.

Voodoo 5 6000 is an unreleased card that never made it past the prototype stage. It’s a quad GPU unicorn from an era long past. This is a defective Vega 64 with no noted interesting qualities aside from a sticker.

Almost sounds like I mentioned that.......

rgMekanic It was off a reddit post i stumbled upon a couple nights ago.

It was apparently a prop/inside joke built by some of the AMD engineers involved building the Ryzen chip design.

Not bad. If it works as advertised, you'll have a nice museum piece to talk about ;)

Yah, it seems notoriously difficult to find video card Engineering Samples. Also I am questioning if ESs can even really be considered "prototypes"

Probably depends on the card. For example I can by the most recent stepping of a es CPU and it would be completely identical in every way to a retail chip. And at that point there is a abundance of them shipped out everywhere. On the other end a actually prototype would still have the es lable. I had a es s7000 Abit ago that I had flashed a custom vbios and for all purposes used as a production card with no issues

I am really questioning that AMD void warranty sticker on that "prototype" I have a feeling someone replaced the sticker on a busted vega.

where's the void warranty sticker?

Man this is awesome, I wish I had the spare cash to afford cards like this.

a fellow collector had this to say about my Engineering Sample:

Fouquin@TPU said:
Because of the sticker I would say that it is certainly an ES, but the card is physically and functionally the same as a retail Vega 64. Judging from the UEFI date it looks to be newer than the initial Vega launch by quite some time. So what makes this card special is that it was pulled from retail shipment specifically by AMD and marked for their use only. It's also still possible it's got a golden sample ASIC or HBM2.
