The German branch of PETA has condemned Far Cry 5 for allowing players to hunt and kill fish. In a statement published on its website, the animal rights organization explains that fish are intelligent creatures capable of experiencing pain and urges Ubisoft to stop developing games that glorify the killing of such animals.

PETA now appeals to the German representation of the game developer, the Ubisoft GmbH in Dusseldorf, in the future no longer to market video games in Germany, glorifying and banalizing the hunting and killing of fish or other animals. The animal rights organization proposes instead to develop games with free-living animals that do not glorify killing as a pastime.

I would think PETA would encourage virtual fishing over the real thing. Then again, because Far Cry 5 is the current big video game. They have to use something to get attention. Big thanks to PETA for encouraging me to take the kids fishing this morning, before I play a little FC5

But killing people is ok....?

Exactly.

Mass desensitization a deeper issue/oddity of the whole gaming industry, but complaining about killing wildlife here is absurd. PETA is either unbelievably oblivious to what FC5 actually is, or they're fine with massive cognitive dissonance. Like you should feel bad about catching some salmon, but be totally OK with that pile of dead humans behind you.

Anyone want to form PETZ? People for the Ehtical Treatment of Zombies. Could be loads of fun for both the gaming and t.v./movie industries.

Honestly PETA, there's got to be some productive use of your resources than this.

Can we just classify this group as what they really are "An extremest terrorist group" and have the top level members imprisoned and the organization dissolved? I mean seriously they have already been caught numerous times funding known eco terrorists.

Cmon pal, April's Fools was like a month ago...

FC5 fish are just made of binaries and pixels - moving around INSIDE a game, not in a real pond!

PETA's IQ really shine fer real.....

Dear Ubisoft:

If you send out a formal letter online (+ Tweet) simply stating: "Dear PETA: Go fuck yourself" I will buy your game. I have zero interest in it, but if you can take a stand to stupidity - I will support you on that merit alone.

This is what liberal government agencies do. They have fucking lost it completely. No wander the brits want no part of the joke the EU is.

LOL WTF. Its ok to kill crazy ass people in a game. But you need to ban video games that let you fish!.......Seriously WTF is wrong with people. Next FF14 and FF15 should be banned for allowing fishing. Also World of Warcraft!

If games where really responsible for mass desensitization, yet the current generation is a bunch of pussy snowflakes... which one is true?

Desensitization through games is a myth, much in the same way TV was going to poison the youth decades ago, and radio before it. Its just people looking for an easy explanation to a complex problem so they can feel good about doing something while accomplishing nothing.

I don't care what Peta has to say about anything so I'm going semi-off topic.

I'm not a hunter and have no zero interest in killing animals. I'm not against people hunting for food and pest control and I'm not a vegan or anything. it's just not for me. I also lived in Montana for about 6 years. I was just playing the far Cry 5 mission where you have to hunt a couple deer-ish creatures and man the hunting itself is pretty enjoyable. On ultra settings the woods are really pretty. Now I'm seriously getting the itch to go do some camping. Game came out in the perfect season.
