Am I the only one that thinks Wolfenstein 2 is a pretty horrible game?

Especially when compared to the others? The story is barely nonexistent despite the cutscenes, the characters are either terrible or because terrible (seriously BJ was annoying af the entire game), the main bad guy we saw twice the entire game just about, the stealth is nearly gone, game play and gun play are a giant step back, level design is some of the worst I've seen...I mean...who actually enjoyed this and HOW??? I mean, really. I know it's all subjective but come on, this game has glaring flaws in it and piss poor pacing.

I don't see how anyone that's played the last two games in the series could like this one...let alone think it was actually any good. Even as a standalone game it's pretty mediocre.

I'm sure I'll be bashed but certainly I'm not the only one that thinks this? Seems like it, though I have no idea how. Seriously, The New Order is literally better in every-single-freakin-aspect.

Well that's why I said as a stand alone game it's mediocre. Compared to others in the series I think it flat out sucked...if it were a stand alone game it wouldn't be that bad...it's just we've already had soooo much better from the SAME developer in the SAME series YEARS ago...

I can live with the C+ rating though, it's a relief that at least one person see's it as not being GOTY!

I bought it on sale and wish I would have saved my money as I felt the same way. I played a couple of hours until the end of the sub level, and the respawning enemies and horrible level design just seemed like work. Even though I love most FPS, this one just didn't do anything for me and bored me to tears.

Have you played the others in the series? If so, what did you think of them?

Being an old school gamer, I loved the every Wolfenstein game up until the 2009 Wolfenstein release. I have not played New Order, although I tried Old Blood and invested about the same amount of time as The New Colossus before getting bored. Just seemed like I had so many other better games on my computer so quit playing after a couple of hours in. Glad I only paid about a tenner for it is as well.

I have since uninstalled The New Colossus from my machine, but does it get any better after the sub missions? I got so incredibly frustrated getting stuck on objects in the tightly cramped environments. The game just seemed so clunky.

Not for me it didn't...almost got worse the further in you went.

I will say though (!!!) that if you haven't played The New Order you NEED to. The Old Blood was significantly better than The New Colossus but The New Order crushes all of them and does just fine as it's own stand alone game as well. Yeah, for what you can get it for I'd give it a shot.

Clunky and weird looking game. No idea how they went from the previous game to this one. I quit playing very early on. Waste of money.

Your post made me go back to the Wolfenstein II thread. Looking back through my posts I started out really hopeful for the game and liking it - perhaps primarily because it was good to be back on the horse again after such fond memories from New Hope. But the more I played into the New game, the less I liked it. By the end I'd just rate it average. It was so dark too, and just kept getting darker. I felt uncomfortable playing it.

This was my review halfway through the game, and my opinion only worsened of the overall experience by the end. I haven't even gone back and played any of the free DLC after beating the game, because I'm just not that interested.

The hit feedback mechanism was broken on Wolfenstein II - to the point that I'd often die without even knowing I was taking damage. At least at the time I played there was very little in the way of visual queue that you were getting hurt. I don't remember that being a problem with New Order. Wolfenstein New Order is in my top 5 games of all time, and Wolfenstein II wouldn't even make the list.

What was with the character model graphics getting worse than the first game too?

Someone pointed out on another forum that the character models were much better in New Order.
I definitely agree.
I wonder what happened?

left New Order Anna
right Collosus Anna

Lest you forget --here is a cinematic with Anna from the New Order game. New order had way better models. Anyone read why this is? Is it setting we need to flip? I noticed the character models were clunky from the very beginning - but it's forgivable because the environments are so good. I guess I didn't realize how bad they were compared to the 2014 models until you see them side by side.

New Order

The course this series has taken, overall, has been one I'm not thrilled about. Way darker and more visceral and nasty then it needs to be and I, too, agree that New Order overall was awesome despite that above statement and this last one was a C.

I'm at the point where I wish they would do a glorified remaster of Return to Castle Wolfenstein (a classic for me) and treat it like a soft reboot and go from there.

I'm almost scared to imagine what the next game in this series will be like if they continue in the direction they have been headed in. I guess it will be Evil Within 3, the cyber Nazi version? No thanks.

Relive the glory days of RTCW with ioRTCW :D It may not be a remaster but it allows for a much better playthrough.

Not horrible, but disappointing for sure - especially when compared to New Order.

I have seen literally zero people claim New Colossus was GOTY.

I felt the same as OP when I played thru. It was "meh" to start off with. About 3/4ths of the way it really became a total grind and was more of a chore to play thru that last part of it. I was actually relieved when I finished.

It did have a few good moments but my persoanl rating is 6/10

Gee thanks, you completely killed my mood for the game. I was planning on playing it soon(ish). And I already think that the new order was just a mediocre shooter, not particularly great. This means I'll probably hate this. I really hope you're wrong.
